Psalms 39
1 To the excellent musician Ieduthun. I thought, I will take heede to my wayes, that I sinne not with my tongue: I will keepe my mouth brideled, while the wicked is in my sight.
Jusqu'à la Fin, sur Idithun. Hymne de David. J'ai dit: J'observerai mes voies pour ne point pécher de la langue. J'ai mis une garde à ma bouche, tandis que le pécheur se dressait contre moi.
2 I was dumme and spake nothing: I kept silece euen from good, and my sorow was more stirred.
Je suis resté muet, je me suis humilié; je me suis abstenu même de bonnes paroles, et ma douleur s'en est accrue.
3 Mine heart was hote within me, and while I was musing, the fire kindeled, and I spake with my tongue, saying,
Mon cœur s'est échauffé en moi, et un feu s'allumera dans ma méditation. J'ai dit de ma langue:
4 Lord, let me know mine ende, and the measure of my dayes, what it is: let mee knowe howe long I haue to liue.
Seigneur, fais-moi connaître ma fin et quel est le nombre de mes jours, pour que je sache ce qui me reste.
5 Beholde, thou hast made my dayes as an hand breadth, and mine age as nothing in respect of thee: surely euery man in his best state is altogether vanitie. (Selah)
Voilà tu as envieilli mes jours, et ma substance est comme rien devant toi. En vérité, toutes choses, tout homme vivant ne sont que vanité.
6 Doubtlesse man walketh in a shadowe, and disquieteth himselfe in vaine: he heapeth vp riches, and cannot tell who shall gather them.
Cependant l'homme passe comme une ombre, et il se trouble follement. Il thésaurise, et il ne sait pour qui il amassera ses trésors.
7 And now Lord, what wait I for? mine hope is euen in thee.
Et maintenant quelle est mon attente? N'est-ce pas le Seigneur? Et ma substance n'est-elle pas en toi?
8 Deliuer me from all my transgressions, and make me not a rebuke vnto the foolish.
Retire-moi de toutes mes iniquités, toi qui m'as donné en opprobre à l'insensé.
9 I should haue bene dumme, and not haue opened my mouth, because thou didest it.
Je suis resté muet, et je n'ai point ouvert la bouche; car c'est toi qui as fait cela.
10 Take thy plague away from mee: for I am consumed by the stroke of thine hand.
Détourne de moi mes plaies; car j'ai défailli sous la force de tes mains.
11 When thou with rebukes doest chastise man for iniquitie, thou as a mothe makest his beautie to consume: surely euery man is vanitie. (Selah)
Tu as châtié l'homme par tes réprimandes, à cause de son iniquité. Tu as fait dessécher son âme comme la toile de l'araignée; toutefois l'homme se trouble follement.
12 Heare my prayer, O Lord, and hearken vnto my cry: keepe not silence at my teares, for I am a strager with thee, and a soiourner as all my fathers.
Seigneur, écoute ma prière et ma supplication; entends mes larmes; ne garde pas le silence, car je suis sur la terre un passager, un voyageur comme l'ont été tous mes pères.
13 Stay thine anger from me, that I may recouer my strength, before I go hence and be not.
Épargne-moi, afin que je respire avant de disparaître; et je ne serai plus.
