< Psalms 2 >
1 Why doe the heathen rage, and the people murmure in vaine?
Why this turmoil of nations, this futile plotting of peoples,
2 The Kings of the earth band themselues, and the princes are assembled together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
with kings of the earth conspiring, and rulers consulting together, against the Lord and against his anointed,
3 Let vs breake their bands, and cast their cordes from vs.
to snap their bonds and fling their cords away?
4 But he that dwelleth in the heauen, shall laugh: the Lord shall haue them in derision.
He whose throne is in heaven laughs, the Lord mocks them.
5 Then shall hee speake vnto them in his wrath, and vexe them in his sore displeasure, saying,
Then he speaks to them in his wrath, and in his hot anger confounds them.
6 Euen I haue set my King vpon Zion mine holy mountaine.
“This my king is installed by me, on Zion my holy mountain.”
7 I will declare the decree: that is, the Lord hath said vnto me, Thou art my Sonne: this day haue I begotten thee.
I will tell of the Lord’s decree. He said to me: “You are my son, this day I became your father.
8 Aske of me, and I shall giue thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the endes of the earth for thy possession.
Only ask, and I make you the heir of the nations, and lord of the world to its utmost bounds.
9 Thou shalt krush them with a scepter of yron, and breake them in pieces like a potters vessell.
You will break them with sceptre of iron, shatter them like pottery.”
10 Be wise nowe therefore, ye Kings: be learned ye Iudges of the earth.
So now, you kings, be wise: be warned, you rulers of earth.
11 Serue the Lord in feare, and reioyce in trembling.
Serve the Lord in awe, kiss his feet with trembling,
12 Kisse the sonne, least he be angry, and ye perish in the way, when his wrath shall suddenly burne. blessed are all that trust in him.
lest, angry, he hurl you to ruin; for soon will his fury blaze. Happy all who take refuge in him.
