< Psalms 17 >

1 The prayer of Dauid. Heare the right, O Lord, consider my crye: hearken vnto my prayer of lips vnfained.
A prayer of David. Listen, O Lord of my righteousness, attend to my petition; give ear to my prayer not [uttered] with deceitful lips.
2 Let my sentence come forth from thy presence, and let thine eyes beholde equitie.
Let my judgement come forth from your presence; let mine eyes behold righteousness.
3 Thou hast prooued and visited mine heart in the night: thou hast tryed me, and foundest nothing: for I was purposed that my mouth should not offend.
You has proved mine heart; you have visited [me] by night; you have tried me as with fire, and unrighteousness has not been found in me: [I am purposed] that my mouth shall not speak [amiss].
4 Concerning the workes of men, by the wordes of thy lips I kept mee from the paths of the cruell man.
As for the works of men, by the words of your lips I have guarded [myself from] hard ways.
5 Stay my steps in thy paths, that my feete doe not slide.
Direct my steps in your paths, that my steps slip not.
6 I haue called vpon thee: surely thou wilt heare me, O God: incline thine eare to me, and hearken vnto my wordes.
I have cried, for you heard me, O God: incline your ear to me, and listen to my words.
7 Shewe thy marueilous mercies, thou that art the Sauiour of them that trust in thee, from such as resist thy right hand.
Show the marvels of your mercies, you that save them that hope in you.
8 Keepe me as the apple of the eye: hide me vnder the shadowe of thy wings,
Keep me as the apple of the eye from those that resist your right hand: you shall screen me by the covering of your wings,
9 From the wicked that oppresse mee, from mine enemies, which compasse me round about for my soule.
from the face of the ungodly that have afflicted me: mine enemies have compassed about my soul.
10 They are inclosed in their owne fat, and they haue spoken proudely with their mouth.
They have enclosed [themselves with] their own fat: their mouth has spoken pride.
11 They haue compassed vs now in our steps: they haue set their eyes to bring downe to the ground:
They have now cast me out and compassed me round about: they have set their eyes [so as] to bow them down to the ground.
12 Like as a lyon that is greedy of pray, and as it were a lyons whelp lurking in secret places.
They laid wait for me as a lion ready for prey, and like a lion's whelp dwelling in secret [places].
13 Vp Lord, disappoint him: cast him downe: deliuer my soule from the wicked with thy sworde,
Arise, O Lord, prevent them, and cast them down: deliver my soul from the ungodly: [draw] your sword,
14 From men by thine hand, O Lord, from men of the world, who haue their portion in this life, whose bellies thou fillest with thine hid treasure: their children haue ynough, and leaue the rest of their substance for their children.
because of the enemies of your hand: O Lord, destroy them from the earth; scatter them in their life, though their belly has been filled with your hidden [treasures]: they have been satisfied with uncleanness, and have left the remnant [of their possessions] to their babes.
15 But I will beholde thy face in righteousnes, and when I awake, I shalbe satisfied with thine image.
But I shall appear in righteousness before your face: I shall be satisfied when your glory appears.
