Proverbs 8
1 Doth not wisedome crie? and vnderstanding vtter her voyce?
La sagesse ne crie-t-elle pas, l'intelligence n'élève-t-elle pas sa voix?
2 She standeth in the top of the high places by the way in the place of the paths.
C'est au sommet des hauteurs, sur la route, à la jonction des chemins, qu'elle se place;
3 She cryeth besides the gates before the citie at the entrie of the doores,
près des portes, aux abords de la ville, à l'entrée des portes, elle fait entendre sa voix:
4 O men, I call vnto you, and vtter my voyce to the children of men.
« Hommes, c'est à vous que je crie, et ma voix s'adresse aux enfants des hommes.
5 O ye foolish men, vnderstand wisedome, and ye, O fooles, be wise in heart.
Simples, apprenez la prudence; insensés, apprenez l'intelligence.
6 Giue eare, for I will speake of excellent things, and the opening of my lippes, shall teache things that be right.
Ecoutez, car j'ai à dire des choses magnifiques, et mes lèvres s'ouvrent pour enseigner ce qui est droit.
7 For my mouth shall speake the trueth, and my lippes abhorre wickednesse.
« Car ma bouche proclame la vérité, et mes lèvres ont l'iniquité en horreur.
8 All the wordes of my mouth are righteous: there is no lewdenes, nor frowardnesse in them.
Toutes les paroles de ma bouche sont justes; il n'y a en elles rien de faux ni de tortueux.
9 They are all plaine to him that will vnderstande, and streight to them that woulde finde knowledge.
Toutes sont justes pour celui qui est intelligent, et droites pour ceux qui ont trouvé la science.
10 Receiue mine instruction, and not siluer, and knowledge rather then fine golde.
Recevez mon instruction plutôt que l'argent, et la science plutôt que l'or pur.
11 For wisdome is better then precious stones: and all pleasures are not to be compared vnto her.
Car la sagesse vaut mieux que les perles, et les objets les plus précieux ne l'égalent pas.
12 I wisdome dwell with prudence, and I find foorth knowledge and counsels.
« Moi, la sagesse, j'habite avec la prudence, et je possède la science de la réflexion.
13 The feare of the Lord is to hate euill as pride, and arrogancie, and the euill way: and a mouth that speaketh lewde things, I doe hate.
La crainte de Yahweh, c'est la haine du mal; l'arrogance et l'orgueil, la voie du mal et la bouche perverse, voilà ce que je hais.
14 I haue counsell and wisedome: I am vnderstanding, and I haue strength.
Le conseil et le succès m'appartiennent; je suis l'intelligence, la force est à moi.
15 By me, Kings reigne, and princes decree iustice.
Par moi les rois règnent, et les princes ordonnent ce qui est juste.
16 By me princes rule and the nobles, and all the iudges of the earth.
Par moi gouvernent les chefs, et les grands, — tous les juges de la terre.
17 I loue them that loue me: and they that seeke me earely, shall finde me.
J'aime ceux qui m'aiment, et ceux qui me cherchent avec empressement me trouvent.
18 Riches and honour are with me: euen durable riches and righteousnesse.
Avec moi sont les richesses et la gloire, les biens durables et la justice.
19 My fruite is better then golde, euen then fine golde, and my reuenues better then fine siluer.
Mon fruit vaut mieux que l'or, que l'or pur, et ce qui vient de moi mieux que l'argent éprouvé.
20 I cause to walke in the way of righteousnes, and in the middes of the paths of iudgement,
Je marche dans le chemin de la justice, au milieu des sentiers du jugement,
21 That I may cause them that loue me, to inherite substance, and I will fill their treasures.
pour donner des biens à ceux qui m'aiment, et combler leurs trésors.
22 The Lord hath possessed me in the beginning of his way: I was before his workes of olde.
« Yahweh m'a possédée au commencement de ses voies, avant ses œuvres les plus anciennes.
23 I was set vp from euerlasting, from the beginning and before the earth.
J'ai été fondée dès l'éternité, dès le commencement, avant les origines de la terre.
24 When there were no depths, was I begotten, when there were no fountaines abounding with water.
Il n'y avait point d'abîmes quand je fus enfantée, point de sources chargées d'eaux.
25 Before the mountaines were setled: and before the hilles, was I begotten.
Avant que les montagnes fussent affermies, avant les collines, j'étais enfantée,
26 He had not yet made the earth, nor the open places, nor the height of the dust in the worlde.
lorsqu'il n'avait encore fait ni la terre, ni les plaines, ni les premiers éléments de la poussière du globe.
27 When hee prepared the heauens, I was there, when he set the compasse vpon the deepe.
Lorsqu'il disposa les cieux, j'étais là, lorsqu'il traça un cercle à la surface de l'abîme,
28 When he established the cloudes aboue, when he confirmed the fountaines of the deepe,
lorsqu'il affermit les nuages en haut, et qu'il dompta les sources de l'abîme,
29 When he gaue his decree to the Sea, that the waters shoulde not passe his commandement: when he appointed the foundations of the earth,
lorsqu'il fixa sa limite à la mer, pour que les eaux n'en franchissent pas les bords, lorsqu'il posa les fondements de la terre.
30 Then was I with him as a nourisher, and I was dayly his delight reioycing alway before him,
J'étais à l'œuvre auprès de lui, me réjouissant chaque jour, et jouant sans cesse en sa présence,
31 And tooke my solace in the compasse of his earth: and my delite is with the children of men.
jouant sur le globe de sa terre, et trouvant mes délices parmi les enfants des hommes.
32 Therefore nowe hearken, O children, vnto me: for blessed are they that keepe my wayes.
« Et maintenant, mes fils, écoutez-moi; heureux ceux qui gardent mes voies!
33 Heare instruction, and be ye wise, and refuse it not:
Ecoutez l'instruction pour devenir sages; ne la rejetez pas.
34 blessed is the man that heareth mee, watching dayly at my gates, and giuing attendance at the postes of my doores.
Heureux l'homme qui m'écoute, qui veille chaque jour à mes portes, et qui en garde les montants!
35 For he that findeth me, findeth life, and shall obteine fauour of the Lord.
Car celui qui me trouve a trouvé la vie, et il obtient la faveur de Yahweh.
36 But he that sinneth against me, hurteth his owne soule: and all that hate me, loue death.
Mais celui qui m'offense blesse son âme; tous ceux qui me haïssent aiment la mort. »
