Proverbs 31
1 THE WORDS OF KING LEMUEL: The prophecie which his mother taught him.
Parole del re Lemuel. Sentenze con le quali sua madre lo ammaestrò.
2 What my sonne! and what ye sonne of my wombe! and what, O sonne of my desires!
Che ti dirò, figlio mio? che ti dirò, figlio delle mie viscere? che ti dirò, o figlio dei miei voti?
3 Giue not thy strength vnto women, nor thy wayes, which is to destroy Kings.
Non dare il tuo vigore alle donne, né i tuoi costumi a quelle che perdono i re.
4 It is not for Kings, O Lemuel, it is not for Kings to drink wine nor for princes strog drinke,
Non s’addice ai re, o Lemuel, non s’addice ai re bere del vino, né ai principi, bramar la cervogia:
5 Lest he drinke and forget the decree, and change the iudgement of all the children of affliction.
che a volte, avendo bevuto, non dimentichino la legge, e non disconoscano i diritti d’ogni povero afflitto.
6 Giue ye strong drinke vnto him that is readie to perish, and wine vnto them that haue griefe of heart.
Date della cervogia a chi sta per perire, e del vino a chi ha l’anima amareggiata;
7 Let him drinke, that he may forget his pouertie, and remember his miserie no more.
affinché bevano, dimentichino la loro miseria, e non si ricordin più dei loro travagli.
8 Open thy mouth for the domme in the cause of all the children of destruction.
Apri la tua bocca in favore del mutolo, per sostener la causa di tutti i derelitti;
9 Open thy mouth: iudge righteously, and iudge the afflicted, and the poore.
apri la tua bocca, giudica con giustizia, fa’ ragione al misero ed al bisognoso.
10 Who shall finde a vertuous woman? for her price is farre aboue the pearles.
Elogio della donna forte e virtuosa. Una donna forte e virtuosa chi la troverà? il suo pregio sorpassa di molto quello delle perle.
11 The heart of her husband trusteth in her, and he shall haue no neede of spoyle.
Il cuore del suo marito confida in lei, ed egli non mancherà mai di provviste.
12 She will doe him good, and not euill all the dayes of her life.
Ella gli fa del bene, e non del male, tutti i giorni della sua vita.
13 She seeketh wooll and flaxe, and laboureth cheerefully with her handes.
Ella si procura della lana e del lino, e lavora con diletto con le proprie mani.
14 She is like the shippes of marchants: shee bringeth her foode from afarre.
Ella è simile alle navi dei mercanti: fa venire il suo cibo da lontano.
15 And she riseth, whiles it is yet night: and giueth the portion to her houshold, and the ordinarie to her maides.
Ella si alza quando ancora è notte, distribuisce il cibo alla famiglia e il compito alle sue donne di servizio.
16 She considereth a field, and getteth it: and with the fruite of her handes she planteth a vineyarde.
Ella posa gli occhi sopra un campo, e l’acquista; col guadagno delle sue mani pianta una vigna.
17 She girdeth her loynes with strength, and strengtheneth her armes.
Ella si ricinge di forza i fianchi, e fa robuste le sue braccia.
18 She feeleth that her marchandise is good: her candle is not put out by night.
Ella s’accorge che il suo lavoro rende bene; la sua lucerna non si spegne la notte.
19 She putteth her handes to the wherue, and her handes handle the spindle.
Ella mette la mano alla ròcca, e le sue dita maneggiano il fuso.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poore, and putteth foorth her hands to the needie.
Ella stende le palme al misero, e porge le mani al bisognoso.
21 She feareth not the snowe for her familie: for all her familie is clothed with skarlet.
Ella non teme la neve per la sua famiglia, perché tutta la sua famiglia è vestita di lana scarlatta.
22 She maketh her selfe carpets: fine linen and purple is her garment.
Ella si fa dei tappeti, ha delle vesti di lino finissimo e di porpora.
23 Her husband is knowen in the gates, when he sitteth with the Elders of the land.
Il suo marito è rispettato alle porte, quando si siede fra gli Anziani del paese.
24 She maketh sheetes, and selleth them, and giueth girdels vnto the marchant.
Ella fa delle tuniche e le vende, e delle cinture che dà al mercante.
25 Strength and honour is her clothing, and in the latter day she shall reioyce.
Forza e dignità sono il suo manto, ed ella si ride dell’avvenire.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdome, and the lawe of grace is in her tongue.
Ella apre la bocca con sapienza, ed ha sulla lingua insegnamenti di bontà.
27 She ouerseeth the wayes of her housholde, and eateth not the bread of ydlenes.
Ella sorveglia l’andamento della sua casa, e non mangia il pane di pigrizia.
28 Her children rise vp, and call her blessed: her husband also shall prayse her, saying,
I suoi figliuoli sorgono e la proclaman beata, e il suo marito la loda, dicendo:
29 Many daughters haue done vertuously: but thou surmountest them all.
“Molte donne si son portate valorosamente, ma tu le superi tutte”!
30 Fauour is deceitfull, and beautie is vanitie: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praysed.
La grazia è fallace e la bellezza è cosa vana; ma la donna che teme l’Eterno è quella che sarà lodata.
31 Giue her of the fruite of her hands, and let her owne workes prayse her in the gates.
Datele del frutto delle sue mani, e le opere sue la lodino alle porte!
