Proverbs 3
1 My sonne, forget not thou my Lawe, but let thine heart keepe my commandements.
Mijn zoon! vergeet mijn wet niet, maar uw hart beware mijn geboden.
2 For they shall increase the length of thy dayes and the yeeres of life, and thy prosperitie.
Want langheid van dagen, en jaren van leven, en vrede zullen zij u vermeerderen.
3 Let not mercie and trueth forsake thee: binde them on thy necke, and write them vpon the table of thine heart.
Dat de goedertierenheid en de trouw u niet verlaten; bind ze aan uw hals, schrijf zij op de tafel uws harten.
4 So shalt thou finde fauour and good vnderstanding in the sight of God and man.
En vind gunst en goed verstand, in de ogen Gods en der mensen.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and leane not vnto thine owne wisdome.
Vertrouw op den HEERE met uw ganse hart, en steun op uw verstand niet.
6 In all thy wayes acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy wayes.
Ken Hem in al uw wegen, en Hij zal uw paden recht maken.
7 Be not wise in thine owne eyes: but feare the Lord, and depart from euill.
Zijt niet wijs in uw ogen; vrees den HEERE, en wijk van het kwade.
8 So health shalbe vnto thy nauel, and marowe vnto thy bones.
Het zal een medicijn voor uw navel zijn, en een bevochtiging voor uw beenderen.
9 Honour the Lord with thy riches, and with the first fruites of all thine increase.
Vereer den HEERE van uw goed, en van de eerstelingen al uwer inkomsten;
10 So shall thy barnes be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall burst with newe wine.
Zo zullen uw schuren met overvloed vervuld worden, en uw perskuipen van most overlopen.
11 My sonne, refuse not the chastening of the Lord, neither be grieued with his correction.
Mijn zoon! verwerp de tucht des HEEREN niet, en wees niet verdrietig over Zijn kastijding;
12 For the Lord correcteth him, whome he loueth, euen as the father doeth the childe in whom he deliteth.
Want de HEERE kastijdt dengene, dien Hij liefheeft, ja, gelijk een vader den zoon, in denwelken hij een welbehagen heeft.
13 Blessed is the man that findeth wisedome, and the man that getteth vnderstanding.
Welgelukzalig is de mens, die wijsheid vindt, en de mens, die verstandigheid voortbrengt!
14 For the marchandise thereof is better then the marchandise of siluer, and the gaine thereof is better then golde.
Want haar koophandel is beter dan de koophandel van zilver, en haar inkomst dan het uitgegraven goud.
15 It is more precious then pearles: and all things that thou canst desire, are not to be compared vnto her.
Zij is kostelijker dan robijnen; en al wat u lusten mag, is met haar niet te vergelijken.
16 Length of dayes is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and glory.
Langheid der dagen is in haar rechterhand, in haar linkerhand rijkdom en eer.
17 Her wayes are wayes of pleasure, and all her pathes prosperitie.
Haar wegen zijn wegen der liefelijkheid, en al haar paden vrede.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay holde on her, and blessed is he that retaineth her.
Zij is een boom des levens dengenen, die ze aangrijpen, en elkeen, die ze vast houdt, wordt gelukzalig.
19 The Lord by wisdome hath layde the foundation of the earth, and hath stablished the heauens through vnderstanding.
De HEERE heeft de aarde door wijsheid gegrond, de hemelen door verstandigheid bereid.
20 By his knowledge the depthes are broken vp, and the cloudes droppe downe the dewe.
Door Zijn wetenschap zijn de afgronden gekloofd, en de wolken druipen dauw.
21 My sonne, let not these things depart from thine eyes, but obserue wisdome, and counsell.
Mijn zoon! laat ze niet afwijken van uw ogen; bewaar de bestendige wijsheid en bedachtzaamheid.
22 So they shalbe life to thy soule, and grace vnto thy necke.
Want zij zullen het leven voor uw ziel zijn, en een aangenaamheid voor uw hals.
23 Then shalt thou walke safely by thy way: and thy foote shall not stumble.
Dan zult gij uw weg zeker wandelen, en gij zult uw voet niet stoten.
24 If thou sleepest, thou shalt not bee afraide, and when thou sleepest, thy sleepe shalbe sweete.
Zo gij nederligt, zult gij niet schrikken; maar gij zult nederliggen en uw slaap zal zoet wezen.
25 Thou shalt not feare for any sudden feare, neither for the destruction of the wicked, when it commeth.
Vrees niet voor haastigen schrik, noch voor de verwoesting der goddelozen, als zij komt.
26 For the Lord shall be for thine assurance, and shall preserue thy foote from taking.
Want de HEERE zal met uw hoop wezen, en Hij zal uw voet bewaren van gevangen te worden.
27 Withhold not the good from the owners thereof, though there be power in thine hand to doe it.
Onthoud het goed van zijn meesters niet, als het in het vermogen uwer hand is te doen.
28 Say not vnto thy neighbour, Go and come againe, and to morow wil I giue thee, if thou now haue it.
Zeg niet tot uw naaste: Ga heen, en kom weder, en morgen zal ik geven, dewijl het bij u is.
29 Intend none hurt against thy neighbour, seeing he doeth dwell without feare by thee.
Smeed geen kwaad tegen uw naaste, aangezien hij met vertrouwen bij u woont.
30 Striue not with a man causelesse, when he hath done thee no harme.
Twist met een mens niet zonder oorzaak, zo hij u geen kwaad gedaan heeft.
31 Bee not enuious for the wicked man, neither chuse any of his wayes.
Zijt niet nijdig over een man des gewelds, en verkies geen van zijn wegen.
32 For the frowarde is abomination vnto the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.
Want de afwijker is den HEERE een gruwel; maar Zijn verborgenheid is met den oprechte.
33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.
De vloek des HEEREN is in het huis des goddelozen; maar de woning der rechtvaardigen zal Hij zegenen.
34 With the scornefull he scorneth, but hee giueth grace vnto the humble.
Zekerlijk, de spotters zal Hij bespotten, maar den zachtmoedigen zal Hij genade geven.
35 The wise shall inherite glorie: but fooles dishonour, though they be exalted.
De wijzen zullen eer beerven; maar elk een der zotten neemt schande op zich.
