Proverbs 29

1 A man that hardeneth his necke when he is rebuked, shall suddenly be destroyed and can not be cured.

वह, जिसे बार-बार डांट पड़ती रहती है, फिर भी अपना हठ नहीं छोड़ता, उस पर विनाश अचानक रूप से टूट पड़ेगा और वह पुनः उठ न सकेगा.

2 When the righteous are in authoritie, the people reioyce: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people sigh.

जब खरे की संख्या में वृद्धि होती है, लोगों में हर्ष की लहर दौड़ जाती है; किंतु जब दुष्ट शासन करने लगते हैं, तब प्रजा कराहने लगती है.

3 A man that loueth wisdome, reioyceth his father: but he that feedeth harlots, wasteth his substance.

बुद्धि से प्रेम करनेवाला पुत्र अपने पिता के हर्ष का विषय होता है, किंतु जो वेश्याओं में संलिप्‍त रहता है वह अपनी संपत्ति उड़ाता जाता है.

4 A King by iudgement mainteineth ye countrey: but a man receiuing giftes, destroyeth it.

न्याय्यता पर ही राजा अपने राष्ट्र का निर्माण करता है, किंतु वह, जो जनता को करो के बोझ से दबा देता है, राष्ट्र के विनाश को आमंत्रित करता है.

5 A man that flattereth his neighbour, spreadeth a net for his steps.

जो अपने पड़ोसियों की चापलूसी करता है, वह अपने पड़ोसी के पैरों के लिए जाल बिछा रहा होता है.

6 In the transgression of an euill man is his snare: but the righteous doeth sing and reioyce.

दुष्ट अपने ही अपराधों में उलझा रहता है, किंतु धर्मी सदैव उल्‍लसित हो गीत गाता रहता है.

7 The righteous knoweth the cause of the poore: but the wicked regardeth not knowledge.

धर्मी को सदैव निर्धन के अधिकारों का बोध रहता है, किंतु दुष्ट को इस विषय का ज्ञान ही नहीं होता.

8 Scornefull men bring a citie into a snare: but wise men turne away wrath.

ठट्ठा करनेवाले नगर को अग्नि लगाते हैं, किंतु बुद्धिमान ही कोप को शांत करते हैं.

9 If a wise man contend with a foolish man, whether he be angry or laugh, there is no rest.

यदि बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति किसी मूर्ख को न्यायालय ले जाता है, तो विवाद न तो शीघ्र क्रोधी होने से सुलझता है न ही हंसी में उड़ा देने से.

10 Bloodie men hate him that is vpright: but the iust haue care of his soule.

खून के प्यासे हिंसक व्यक्ति खराई से घृणा करते हैं, वे धर्मी के प्राणों के प्यासे हो जाते हैं.

11 A foole powreth out all his minde: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterward.

क्रोध में मूर्ख व्यक्ति अनियंत्रित हो जाता है, किंतु बुद्धिमान संयमपूर्वक शांत बना रहता है.

12 Of a prince that hearkeneth to lyes, all his seruants are wicked.

यदि शासक असत्य को सुनने लगता है, उसके सभी मंत्री कुटिल बन जाते हैं.

13 The poore and the vsurer meete together, and the Lord lighteneth both their eyes.

अत्याचारी और निर्धन व्यक्ति में एक साम्य अवश्य है: दोनों ही को याहवेह ने दृष्टि प्रदान की है.

14 A King that iudgeth the poore in trueth, his throne shalbe established for euer.

यदि राजा पूर्ण खराई में निर्धन का न्याय करता है, उसका सिंहासन स्थायी रहता है.

15 The rodde and correction giue wisdome: but a childe set a libertie, maketh his mother ashamed.

ज्ञानोदय के साधन हैं डांट और छड़ी, किंतु जिस बालक पर ये प्रयुक्त न हुए हों, वह माता की लज्जा का कारण हो जाता है.

16 When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth: but ye righteous shall see their fall.

दुष्टों की संख्या में वृद्धि अपराध दर में वृद्धि करती है, किंतु धर्मी उनके पतन के दर्शक होते हैं.

17 Correct thy sonne and he will giue thee rest, and will giue pleasures to thy soule.

अपने पुत्र को अनुशासन में रखो कि तुम्हारा भविष्य सुखद हो; वही तुम्हारे हृदय को आनंदित रखेगा.

18 Where there is no vision, the people decay: but he that keepeth the Lawe, is blessed.

भविष्य के दर्शन के अभाव में लोग प्रतिबन्ध तोड़ फेंकते हैं; किंतु धन्य होता है वह, जो नियमों का पालन करता है.

19 A seruant will not be chastised with words: though he vnderstand, yet he will not answere.

सेवकों के अनुशासन के लिए मात्र शब्द निर्देश पर्याप्‍त नहीं होता; वे इसे समझ अवश्य लेंगे, किंतु इसका पालन नहीं करेंगे.

20 Seest thou a man hastie in his matters? there is more hope of a foole, then of him.

एक मूर्ख व्यक्ति से उस व्यक्ति की अपेक्षा अधिक आशा की जा सकती है, जो बिना विचार अपना मत दे देता है.

21 He that delicately bringeth vp his seruant from youth, at length he will be euen as his sone.

यदि सेवक को बाल्यकाल से ही जो भी चाहे दिया जाए, तो अंततः वह घमंडी हो जाएगा.

22 An angrie man stirreth vp strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

शीघ्र क्रोधी व्यक्ति कलह करनेवाला होता है, और अनियंत्रित क्रोध का दास अनेक अपराध कर बैठता है.

23 The pride of a man shall bring him lowe: but the humble in spirit shall enioy glory.

अहंकार ही व्यक्ति के पतन का कारण होता है, किंतु वह, जो आत्मा में विनम्र है, सम्मानित किया जाता है.

24 He that is partner with a thiefe, hateth his owne soule: he heareth cursing, and declareth it not.

जो चोर का साथ देता है, वह अपने ही प्राणों का शत्रु होता है; वह न्यायालय में सबके द्वारा शापित किया जाता है, किंतु फिर भी सत्य प्रकट नहीं कर सकता.

25 The feare of man bringeth a snare: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shalbe exalted.

लोगों से भयभीत होना उलझन प्रमाणित होता है, किंतु जो कोई याहवेह पर भरोसा रखता है, सुरक्षित रहता है.

26 Many doe seeke the face of the ruler: but euery mans iudgement commeth from the Lord.

शासक के प्रिय पात्र सभी बनना चाहते हैं, किंतु वास्तविक न्याय याहवेह के द्वारा निष्पन्‍न होता है.

27 A wicked man is abomination to the iust, and he that is vpright in his way, is abomination to the wicked.

अन्यायी खरे के लिए तुच्छ होते हैं; किंतु वह, जिसका चालचलन खरा है, दुष्टों के लिए तुच्छ होता है.
