Proverbs 24
1 Be not thou enuious against euill men, neither desire to be with them.
Ne porte point d'envie aux hommes malins, et ne désire point d'être avec eux.
2 For their heart imagineth destruction, and their lippes speake mischiefe.
Car leur cœur pense à piller, et leurs lèvres parlent de nuire.
3 Through wisdome is an house builded, and with vnderstanding it is established.
La maison sera bâtie par la sagesse, et sera affermie par l'intelligence.
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers bee filled with all precious, and pleasant riches.
Et par la science les cabinets seront remplis de tous les biens précieux et agréables.
5 A wise man is strong: for a man of vnderstanding encreaseth his strength.
L'homme sage [est accompagné] de force, et l'homme qui a de l'intelligence renforce la puissance.
6 For with counsel thou shalt enterprise thy warre, and in the multitude of them that can giue counsell, is health.
Car par la prudence tu feras la guerre avantageusement, et la délivrance consiste dans le nombre des conseillers.
7 Wisdome is hie to a foole: therefore he can not open his mouth in the gate.
Il n'y a point de sagesse qui ne soit trop haute pour le fou; il n'ouvrira point sa bouche à la porte.
8 Hee that imagineth to doe euill, men shall call him an autour of wickednes.
Celui qui pense à faire mal, on l'appellera, Songe-malice.
9 The wicked thought of a foole is sinne, and the scorner is an abomination vnto men.
Le discours de la folie n'est que péché, et le moqueur est en abomination à l'homme.
10 If thou bee faint in the day of aduersitie, thy strength is small.
Si tu as perdu courage dans la calamité, ta force s'est diminuée.
11 Deliuer them that are drawen to death: wilt thou not preserue them that are led to be slaine?
Si tu te retiens pour ne délivrer point ceux qui sont traînés à la mort, et qui sont sur le point d'être tués,
12 If thou say, Beholde, we knew not of it: he that pondereth the heartes, doeth not hee vnderstand it? and hee that keepeth thy soule, knoweth he it not? will not he also recompense euery man according to his workes?
Parce que tu diras: Voici, nous n'en avons rien su; celui qui pèse les cœurs ne l'entendra-t-il point? et celui qui garde ton âme, ne le saura-t-il point? et ne rendra-t-il point à chacun selon son œuvre?
13 My sonne, eate hony, for it is good, and the hony combe, for it is sweete vnto thy mouth.
Mon fils, mange le miel, car il est bon; et le rayon de miel, car il est doux à ton palais.
14 So shall the knowledge of wisdome be vnto thy soule, if thou finde it, and there shall be an ende, and thine hope shall not be cut off.
Ainsi sera à ton âme la connaissance de la sagesse, quand tu l'auras trouvée; et il y aura une [bonne] issue, et ton attente ne sera point retranchée.
15 Laye no waite, O wicked man, against the house of the righteous, and spoyle not his resting place.
Méchant, n'épie point le domicile du juste, et ne détruis point son gîte.
16 For a iust man falleth seuen times, and riseth againe: but the wicked fall into mischiefe.
Car le juste tombera sept fois, et sera relevé; mais les méchants tombent dans le mal.
17 Bee thou not glad when thine enemie falleth, and let not thine heart reioyce when hee stumbleth,
Quand ton ennemi sera tombé, ne t'en réjouis point; et quand il sera renversé, que ton cœur ne s'en égaye point;
18 Least the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turne his wrath from him.
De peur que l'Eternel ne [le] voie, et que cela ne lui déplaise, tellement qu'il détourne de dessus lui sa colère [sur toi.]
19 Fret not thy selfe because of the malicious, neither be enuious at the wicked.
Ne te dépite point à cause des gens malins; ne porte point d'envie aux méchants;
20 For there shall bee none ende of plagues to the euill man: the light of the wicked shall bee put out.
Car il n'y aura point de [bonne] issue pour le méchant, et la lampe des méchants sera éteinte.
21 My sonne feare the Lord, and the King, and meddle not with them that are sedicious.
Mon fils, crains l'Eternel, et le Roi; et ne te mêle point avec des gens remuants.
22 For their destruction shall rise suddenly, and who knoweth the ruine of them both?
Car leur calamité s'élèvera tout d'un coup; et qui sait l'inconvénient qui arrivera à ces deux-là?
23 ALSO THESE THINGS PERTEINE TO THE WISE, It is not good to haue respect of any person in iudgement.
Ces choses aussi sont pour les sages. Il n'est pas bon d'avoir égard à l'apparence des personnes en jugement.
24 He that saith to the wicked, Thou art righteous, him shall the people curse, and the multitude shall abhorre him.
Celui qui dit au méchant: Tu es juste, les peuples le maudiront, et les nations l'auront en détestation.
25 But to them that rebuke him, shall be pleasure, and vpon them shall come the blessing of goodnesse.
Mais pour ceux qui le reprennent, ils en retireront de la satisfaction, et la bénédiction que les biens accompagnent se répandra sur eux.
26 They shall kisse the lippes of him that answereth vpright wordes.
Celui qui répond avec justesse fait plaisir [à celui qui l'écoute.]
27 Prepare thy worke without, and make readie thy thinges in the fielde, and after, builde thine house.
Range ton ouvrage dehors, et l'apprête au champ qui est à toi, et puis bâtis ta maison.
28 Be not a witnes against thy neighbour without cause: for wilt thou deceiue with thy lippes?
Ne sois point témoin contre ton prochain, sans qu'il en soit besoin; car voudrais-tu t'en faire croire par tes lèvres?
29 Say not, I wil doe to him, as he hath done to mee, I will recompence euery man according to his worke.
Ne dis point: comme il m'a fait, ainsi lui ferai-je; je rendrai à cet homme selon ce qu'il m'a fait.
30 I passed by the fielde of the slouthfull, and by the vineyarde of the man destitute of vnderstanding.
J'ai passé près du champ de l'homme paresseux, et près de la vigne de l'homme dépourvu de sens;
31 And lo, it was al growen ouer with thornes, and nettles had couered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken downe.
Et voilà, tout y était monté en chardons, et les orties avaient couvert le dessus, et sa cloison de pierres était démolie.
32 Then I behelde, and I considered it well: I looked vpon it, and receiued instruction.
Et ayant vu cela, je le mis dans mon cœur, je le regardai, j'en reçus de l'instruction.
33 Yet a litle sleepe, a litle slumber, a litle folding of the handes to sleepe.
Un peu de dormir, un peu de sommeil, un peu de ploiement de bras pour demeurer couché,
34 So thy pouertie commeth as one that traueileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.
Et ta pauvreté viendra [comme] un passant; et ta disette, comme un soldat.
