Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eate with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee,
Cuando tomes asiento en la fiesta con un gobernante, piensa con cuidado en lo que tiene delante;
2 And put the knife to thy throte, if thou be a man giuen to the appetite.
Y controla tu hambre, si tienes un fuerte deseo de comer.
3 Be not desirous of his deintie meates: for it is a deceiuable meate.
No desees su alimento delicado, porque es el pan del engaño.
4 Trauaile not too much to be rich: but cease from thy wisdome.
No te preocupes por obtener riqueza; deja que termine tu deseo de dinero.
5 Wilt thou cast thine eyes vpon it, which is nothing? for riches taketh her to her wings, as an eagle, and flyeth into the heauen.
¿Se te alzan los ojos? se ha ido: porque la riqueza se harán alas, como un águila en vuelo hacia el cielo.
6 Eate thou not the bread of him that hath an euil eye, neither desire his deintie meates.
No tomes la comida del que tiene ojos perversos, ni tengas ningún deseo por su delicada carne;
7 For as though he thought it in his heart, so will hee say vnto thee, Eate and drinke: but his heart is not with thee.
porque como los pensamientos de su corazón son, así es él: Toma comida y bebida, él te dice; pero su corazón no está contigo.
8 Thou shalt vomit thy morsels that thou hast eaten, and thou shalt lose thy sweete wordes.
El alimento que has tomado lo vomitarás, y tus palabras agradables serán desperdiciadas.
9 Speake not in the eares of a foole: for hee will despise the wisdome of thy wordes.
No digas nada al oído de un hombre necio, porque no valorará la sabiduría de tus palabras.
10 Remooue not the ancient boundes, and enter not into the fieldes of the fatherlesse.
No dejes que se mueva el lindero de la viuda, y no vayas a los campos de los que no tienen padre;
11 For he that redeemeth them, is mightie: he will defend their cause against thee.
Porque su salvador es fuerte, y él tomará su causa contra ti.
12 Apply thine heart to instruction, and thine eares to the wordes of knowledge.
Da tu corazón a la enseñanza, y tus oídos a las palabras del conocimiento.
13 Withhold not correction from the childe: if thou smite him with the rodde, he shall not die.
No retires el entrenamiento del niño: porque incluso si le das golpes con la vara, no será la muerte para él.
Dale golpes con la vara, y mantén su alma a salvo del inframundo. (Sheol h7585)
15 My sonne, if thine heart be wise, mine heart shall reioyce, and I also.
Hijo mío, si tu corazón se vuelve sabio, yo también, me alegraré de corazón;
16 And my reynes shall reioyce, when thy lips speake righteous things.
Y mis pensamientos en mí estarán llenos de alegría cuando tus labios digan lo correcto.
17 Let not thine heart bee enuious against sinners: but let it bee in the feare of the Lord continually.
No tengas envidia de pecadores en tu corazón, sino guarda en el temor de Jehová todo el día;
18 For surely there is an ende, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
Porque sin duda hay un futuro, y tu esperanza no será cortada.
19 O thou my sonne, heare, and bee wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
Escucha, hijo mío, y sé sabio, guiando tu corazón de la manera correcta.
20 Keepe not company with drunkards, nor with gluttons.
No estés entre los que se entregan al vino, ni entre los que se sacian de la carne:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall bee poore, and the sleeper shalbe clothed with ragges.
Porque los que se deleitan en la bebida y la fiesta, tendrán necesidad; y por amor al sueño, un hombre estará pobremente vestido.
22 Obey thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother when she is olde.
Escucha a tu padre, de quien eres hijo, y no menosprecies a tu madre cuando sea vieja.
23 Bye the trueth, but sell it not: likewise wisdome, and instruction, and vnderstanding.
Consigue para ti lo que es verdad, y no lo dejes ir por dinero; obtener sabiduría y enseñanza y buen sentido.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly reioyce, and hee that begetteth a wise childe, shall haue ioy of him.
El padre del hombre recto se alegrará, y el que tiene un hijo sabio tendrá gozo por causa de él.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall reioyce.
Dejen que su padre y su madre se alegren, que la que te dio a luz se alegren.
26 My sonne, giue mee thine heart, and let thine eyes delite in my wayes.
Hijo mío, dame tu corazón, y tus ojos se deleiten en mis caminos.
27 For a whore is as a deepe ditche, and a strange woman is as a narrowe pitte.
Porque una mujer prostituta es un profundo hoyo, y una mujer mala es un pozo estrecho y profundo.
28 Also she lyeth in wait as for a praye, and she increaseth the transgressers among men.
Sí, ella está esperando secretamente como una bestia por su alimento, y el engaño por ella se incrementa entre los hombres.
29 To whome is woe? to whome is sorowe? to whom is strife? to whom is murmuring? to whom are woundes without cause? and to whome is the rednesse of the eyes?
¿Quién dice, Oh! quien dice, ¡Ah! ¿Quién tiene argumentos violentos? quién tiene dolor? quién tiene heridas sin causa? y ojos oscuros?
30 Euen to them that tarie long at the wine, to them that goe, and seeke mixt wine.
Aquellos que se sientan tarde sobre el vino: aquellos que buscan vino mezclado.
31 Looke not thou vpon the wine, when it is red, and when it sheweth his colour in the cup, or goeth downe pleasantly.
Evita que tus ojos miren el vino cuando está rojo, cuando su color es brillante en la taza, cuando baja suavemente;
32 In the ende thereof it will bite like a serpent, and hurt like a cockatrise.
Al final, su mordisco es como el de una serpiente, su herida como la herida de un serpiente venenosa.
33 Thine eyes shall looke vpon strange women, and thine heart shall speake lewde things.
Tus ojos verán cosas extrañas, y dirás cosas retorcidas.
34 And thou shalt bee as one that sleepeth in the middes of the sea, and as hee that sleepeth in the toppe of the maste.
Sí, serás como el que descansa en el mar o en la parte superior de un mástil.
35 They haue stricken mee, shalt thou say, but I was not sicke: they haue beaten mee, but I knew not, when I awoke: therefore will I seeke it yet still.
Ellos me han vencido, tú dirás: y no tengo dolor; me dieron golpes sin que los sintiera: ¿cuándo estaré despierto de mi vino? Voy a buscarlo de nuevo.
