Proverbs 21
1 The Kings heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the riuers of waters: he turneth it whithersoeuer it pleaseth him.
Le cœur du Roi est en la main de l'Eternel [comme] des ruisseaux d'eaux, il l'incline à tout ce qu'il veut.
2 Euery way of a man is right in his owne eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.
Chaque voie de l'homme lui semble droite; mais l'Eternel pèse les cœurs.
3 To doe iustice and iudgement is more acceptable to the Lord then sacrifice.
Faire ce qui est juste et droit, est une chose que l'Eternel aime mieux que des sacrifices.
4 A hautie looke, and a proude heart, which is the light of the wicked, is sinne.
Les yeux élevés, et le cœur enflé, est le labourage des méchants, qui n'est que péché.
5 The thoughtes of the diligent doe surely bring abundance: but whosoeuer is hastie, commeth surely to pouertie.
Les pensées d'un homme diligent le conduisent à l'abondance, mais tout étourdi tombe dans l'indigence.
6 The gathering of treasures by a deceitfull tongue is vanitie tossed to and from of them that seeke death.
Travailler à avoir des trésors par une langue trompeuse, c'est une vanité poussée au loin par ceux qui cherchent la mort.
7 The robberie of the wicked shall destroy them: for they haue refused to execute iudgement.
Le fourragement des méchants les abattra, parce qu'ils auront refusé de faire ce qui est droit.
8 The way of some is peruerted and strange: but of the pure man, his worke is right.
Quand un homme marche de travers, il s'égare; mais l'œuvre de celui qui est pur, est droite.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the house top, then with a contentious woman in a wide house.
Il vaut mieux habiter au coin d'un toit, que dans une maison spacieuse avec une femme querelleuse.
10 The soule of the wicked wisheth euill: and his neighbour hath no fauour in his eyes.
L'âme du méchant souhaite le mal, et son prochain ne trouve point de grâce devant lui.
11 When the scorner is punished, the foolish is wise: and when one instructeth the wise, he wil receiue knowledge.
Quand on punit le moqueur, le niais devient sage; et quand on instruit le sage, il reçoit la science.
12 The righteous teacheth the house of the wicked: but God ouerthroweth the wicked for their euill.
Le juste considère prudemment la maison du méchant, quand les méchants sont renversés dans la misère.
13 He that stoppeth his eare at the crying of the poore, he shall also cry and not be heard.
Celui qui bouche son oreille pour n'ouïr point le cri du chétif, criera aussi lui-même, et on ne lui répondra point.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a gift in the bosome great wrath.
Le don fait en secret apaise la colère, et le présent mis au sein apaise une véhémente fureur.
15 It is ioye to the iust to doe iudgement: but destruction shalbe to the workers of iniquitie.
C'est une joie au juste de faire ce qui est droit; mais c'est une frayeur aux ouvriers d'iniquité.
16 A man that wandreth out of the way of wisdome, shall remaine in the congregation of the dead.
L'homme qui se détourne du chemin de la prudence aura sa demeure dans l'assemblée des trépassés.
17 Hee that loueth pastime, shalbe a poore man: and he that loueth wine and oyle, shall not be riche.
L'homme qui aime à rire, sera indigent; et celui qui aime le vin et la graisse, ne s'enrichira point.
18 The wicked shalbe a ransome for the iust, and the transgressour for the righteous.
Le méchant sera l'échange du juste; et le perfide, au lieu des hommes intègres.
19 It is better to dwell in the wildernesse, then with a contentious and angry woman.
Il vaut mieux habiter dans une terre déserte, qu'avec une femme querelleuse et qui se dépite.
20 In the house of the wise is a pleasant treasure and oyle: but a foolish man deuoureth it.
La provision désirable, et l'huile, est dans la demeure du sage; mais l'homme fou l'engloutit.
21 He that followeth after righteousnes and mercy, shall finde life, righteousnes, and glory.
Celui qui s'adonne soigneusement à la justice, et à la miséricorde, trouvera la vie, la justice, et la gloire.
22 A wise man goeth vp into the citie of the mightie, and casteth downe the strength of the confidence thereof.
Le sage entre dans la ville des forts, et rabaisse la force de sa confiance.
23 He that keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soule from afflictions.
Celui qui garde sa bouche et sa langue, garde son âme de détresse.
24 Proude, hautie and scornefull is his name that worketh in his arrogancie wrath.
Un superbe arrogant s'appelle un moqueur, qui fait tout avec colère et fierté.
25 The desire of the slouthfull slayeth him: for his hands refuse to worke.
Le souhait du paresseux le tue; car ses mains ont refusé de travailler.
26 He coueteth euermore greedily, but the righteous giueth and spareth not.
Il y a tel qui tout le jour ne fait que souhaiter; mais le juste donne, et n'épargne rien.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more when he bringeth it with a wicked minde?
Le sacrifice des méchants est une abomination; combien plus s'ils l'apportent avec une méchante intention?
28 A false witnes shall perish: but hee that heareth, speaketh continually.
Le témoin menteur périra; mais l'homme qui écoute, parlera avec gain de cause.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but the iust, he will direct his way.
L'homme méchant a un air impudent; mais l'homme juste dresse ses voies.
30 There is no wisedome, neither vnderstanding, nor counsell against the Lord.
Il n'y a ni sagesse, ni intelligence, ni conseil contre l'Eternel.
31 The horse is prepared against the day of battell: but saluation is of the Lord.
Le cheval est équipé pour le jour de la bataille, mais la délivrance vient de l'Eternel.
