Proverbs 2
1 My sonne, if thou wilt receiue my wordes, and hide my commandements within thee,
Mon fils, si tu acceptes mes paroles, et gardez en vous mes commandements,
2 And cause thine eares to hearken vnto wisdome, and encline thine heart to vnderstanding,
afin de prêter l'oreille à la sagesse, et applique ton cœur à la compréhension;
3 (For if thou callest after knowledge, and cryest for vnderstanding:
oui, si vous faites appel au discernement, et élevez votre voix pour comprendre;
4 If thou seekest her as siluer, and searchest for her as for treasures,
si vous la cherchez comme de l'argent, et la chercher comme des trésors cachés;
5 Then shalt thou vnderstand the feare of the Lord, and finde the knowledge of God.
alors vous comprendrez la crainte de Yahvé, et trouver la connaissance de Dieu.
6 For the Lord giueth wisdome, out of his mouth commeth knowledge and vnderstanding.
Car c'est Yahvé qui donne la sagesse. De sa bouche sortent la connaissance et la compréhension.
7 He preserueth the state of the righteous: he is a shielde to them that walke vprightly,
Il met en réserve la sagesse pour les hommes droits. Il est un bouclier pour ceux qui marchent dans l'intégrité,
8 That they may keepe the wayes of iudgement: and he preserueth the way of his Saintes)
afin qu'il garde les sentiers de la justice, et préserver la voie de ses saints.
9 Then shalt thou vnderstand righteousnes, and iudgement, and equitie, and euery good path.
Alors tu comprendras la droiture et la justice, l'équité et tout bon chemin.
10 When wisdome entreth into thine heart, and knowledge deliteth thy soule,
Car la sagesse entrera dans ton cœur. La connaissance sera agréable pour votre âme.
11 Then shall counsell preserue thee, and vnderstanding shall keepe thee,
La discrétion veillera sur toi. La compréhension vous gardera,
12 And deliuer thee from the euill way, and from the man that speaketh froward things,
pour vous délivrer de la voie du mal, des hommes qui disent des choses perverses,
13 And from them that leaue the wayes of righteousnes to walke in the wayes of darkenes:
qui abandonnent les sentiers de la droiture, pour marcher dans les voies de l'obscurité,
14 Which reioyce in doing euill, and delite in the frowardnesse of the wicked,
qui se réjouissent de faire le mal, et se complaisent dans la perversité du mal,
15 Whose wayes are crooked and they are lewde in their paths.
qui sont tortueux dans leurs voies, et égarés sur leurs chemins,
16 And it shall deliuer thee from the strange woman, euen from the stranger, which flattereth with her wordes.
pour vous délivrer de la femme étrangère, même de l'étranger qui flatte par ses paroles,
17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the couenant of her God.
qui abandonne l'ami de sa jeunesse, et oublie l'alliance de son Dieu;
18 Surely her house tendeth to death, and her paths vnto the dead.
car sa maison conduit à la mort, ses chemins vers les esprits défunts.
19 All they that goe vnto her, returne not againe, neither take they holde of the wayes of life.
Aucun de ceux qui vont chez elle ne revient, ils ne parviennent pas non plus à atteindre les chemins de la vie.
20 Therefore walke thou in the way of good men, and keepe the wayes of the righteous.
C'est pourquoi, marchez dans la voie des hommes de bien, et gardez les sentiers des justes.
21 For the iust shall dwell in the land, and the vpright men shall remaine in it.
Car les hommes intègres habiteront le pays. Le parfait y restera.
22 But the wicked shalbe cut off from ye earth, and the transgressours shalbe rooted out of it.
Mais les méchants seront retranchés du pays. Les traîtres en seront déracinés.
