< Proverbs 15 >
1 A soft answere putteth away wrath: but grieuous wordes stirre vp anger.
A soft answer turneth away wrath; But harsh words stir up anger.
2 The tongue of the wise vseth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fooles babbleth out foolishnesse.
The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge pleasing; But the mouth of fools poureth forth folly.
3 The eyes of the Lord in euery place beholde the euill and the good.
The eyes of the LORD are in every place; They behold the evil and the good.
4 A wholesome tongue is as a tree of life: but the frowardnes therof is the breaking of ye minde.
A mild tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a wound in the spirit.
5 A foole despiseth his fathers instruction: but he that regardeth correction, is prudent.
The fool despiseth the correction of his father; But he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
6 The house of the righteous hath much treasure: but in the reuenues of the wicked is trouble.
In the house of the righteous is much wealth; But in the revenues of the wicked there is trouble.
7 The lippes of the wise doe spread abroade knowledge: but ye heart of the foolish doth not so.
The lips of the wise spread abroad knowledge; But the heart of the foolish is not sound.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable vnto him.
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But the prayer of the righteous is his delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination vnto the Lord: but he loueth him that followeth righteousnes.
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But him who followeth after righteousness he loveth.
10 Instruction is euill to him that forsaketh the way, and he that hateth correction, shall die.
Sore chastisement shall be to him that forsaketh the way; He that hateth reproof shall die.
11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more the hearts of the sonnes of men? (Sheol )
The underworld, yea, the region of death, is before the LORD; How much more the hearts of the sons of men! (Sheol )
12 A scorner loueth not him that rebuketh him, neither will he goe vnto the wise.
The scoffer loveth not his reprover; He will not resort to the wise.
13 A ioyfull heart maketh a chearefull countenance: but by the sorow of the heart the minde is heauie.
A joyous heart maketh a bright countenance; But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 The heart of him that hath vnderstanding, seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of the foole is fedde with foolishnes.
The heart of the man of understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.
15 All the dayes of the afflicted are euill: but a good conscience is a continuall feast.
The days of the afflicted are all evil; But he that hath a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.
16 Better is a litle with the feare of the Lord, then great treasure, and trouble therewith.
Better is a little, with the fear of the LORD, Than much treasure, and trouble therewith.
17 Better is a dinner of greene herbes where loue is, then a stalled oxe and hatred therewith.
Better is a dinner of herbs, where there is love, Than a fatted ox, and hatred therewith.
18 An angrie man stirreth vp strife: but hee that is slowe to wrath, appeaseth strife.
The passionate man stirreth up strife; But he who is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 The way of a slouthfull man is as an hedge of thornes: but the way of the righteous is plaine.
The way of the slothful is as a hedge of thorns; But the way of the righteous is a highway.
20 A wise sonne reioyceth the father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Foolishnes is ioy to him that is destitute of vnderstanding: but a man of vnderstanding walketh vprightly.
Folly is joy to him who lacketh wisdom; But the man of understanding walketh uprightly.
22 Without cousel thoughts come to nought: but in the multitude of counsellers there is stedfastnesse.
Without counsel, plans come to nought; But with a multitude of counsellors they are established.
23 A ioy commeth to a man by the answere of his mouth: and how good is a word in due season?
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good it is!
24 The way of life is on high to the prudent, to auoyde from hell beneath. (Sheol )
The path of life is upward for the wise, So that he turneth away from the underworld beneath. (Sheol )
25 The Lord will destroye the house of the proude men: but hee will stablish the borders of the widowe.
The LORD destroyeth the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow.
26 The thoughts of ye wicked are abomination to the Lord: but the pure haue pleasant wordes.
Evil devices are an abomination to the LORD; But pleasant words are pure.
27 He that is greedie of gaine, troubleth his owne house: but he that hateth giftes, shall liue.
He who is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he who hateth bribes shall live.
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answere: but the wicked mans mouth babbleth euil thinges.
The heart of the righteous meditateth on his answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 The Lord is farre off from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
The LORD is far from the wicked: But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 The light of the eyes reioyceth the heart, and a good name maketh the bones fat.
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, And good tidings make the bones fat.
31 The eare that hearkeneth to the correction of life, shall lodge among the wise.
The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall dwell among the wise.
32 Hee that refuseth instruction, despiseth his owne soule: but he that obeyeth correction, getteth vnderstanding.
He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own life; But he that hearkeneth to rebuke getteth understanding.
33 The feare of the Lord is the instruction of wisdome: and before honour, goeth humilitie.
The fear of the LORD guideth to wisdom, And before honor is humility.
