Proverbs 10
1 THE PARABLE OF SALOMON. A wise sonne maketh a glad father: but a foolish sonne is an heauines to his mother.
Paraboles de Salomon. Le fils sage fait la joie de son père, et le fils insensé le chagrin de sa mère.
2 The treasures of wickednesse profite nothing: but righteousnesse deliuereth from death.
Les trésors acquis par le crime ne profitent pas, mais la justice délivre de la mort.
3 The Lord will not famish the soule of the righteous: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
Yahweh ne laisse pas le juste souffrir de la faim, mais il repousse la convoitise du méchant.
4 A slouthfull hand maketh poore: but the hand of the diligent maketh riche.
Il s’appauvrit celui qui travaille d’une main paresseuse, mais la main des diligents amasse des richesses.
5 He that gathereth in sommer, is the sonne of wisdome: but he that sleepeth in haruest, is the sonne of confusion.
Celui qui recueille pendant l’été est un fils prudent; celui qui dort au temps de la moisson est un fils de confusion.
6 Blessings are vpon the head of the righteous: but iniquitie shall couer the mouth of the wicked.
La bénédiction vient sur la tête du juste, mais l’injustice couvre la bouche des méchants.
7 The memoriall of the iust shalbe blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rotte.
La mémoire du juste est en bénédiction, mais le nom des méchants tombe en pourriture.
8 The wise in heart will receiue commandements: but the foolish in talke shalbe beaten.
Celui qui est sage de cœur reçoit les préceptes, mais celui qui est insensé des lèvres va à sa perte.
9 He that walketh vprightly, walketh boldely: but he that peruerteth his wayes, shalbe knowen.
Celui qui marche dans l’intégrité marche en confiance, mais celui qui prend des voies tortueuses sera découvert.
10 He that winketh with the eye, worketh sorowe, and he yet is foolish in talke, shalbe beaten.
Celui qui cligne les yeux sera une cause de chagrin, et celui qui est insensé des lèvres va à sa perte.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a welspring of life: but iniquitie couereth the mouth of the wicked.
La bouche du juste est une source de vie, mais l’injustice couvre la bouche du méchant.
12 Hatred stirreth vp contentions: but loue couereth all trespasses.
La haine suscite des querelles, mais l’amour couvre toutes les fautes.
13 In the lippes of him that hath vnderstanding wisdome is founde, and a rod shalbe for the backe of him that is destitute of wisedome.
Sur les lèvres de l’homme intelligent se trouve la sagesse, mais la verge est pour le dos de celui qui manque de sens.
14 Wise men lay vp knowledge: but ye mouth of the foole is a present destruction.
Les sages tiennent la sagesse en réserve, mais la bouche de l’insensé est un malheur prochain.
15 The riche mans goodes are his strong citie: but the feare of the needie is their pouertie.
La fortune est pour le riche sa place forte, le malheur des misérables, c’est leur pauvreté.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: but the reuenues of the wicked to sinne.
L’œuvre du juste est pour la vie, le gain du méchant est pour le péché.
17 He that regardeth instruction, is in the way of life: but he that refuseth correction, goeth out of the way.
Celui qui prend garde à l’instruction prend le chemin de la vie; mais celui qui oublie la réprimande s’égare.
18 He that dissembleth hatred with lying lips, and he that inuenteth slaunder, is a foole.
Celui qui cache la haine a des lèvres menteuses, et celui qui répand la calomnie est un insensé.
19 In many wordes there cannot want iniquitie: but he that refrayneth his lippes, is wise.
L’abondance de paroles ne va pas sans péché, mais celui qui retient ses lèvres est un homme prudent.
20 The tongue of the iust man is as fined siluer: but the heart of the wicked is litle worth.
La langue du juste est un argent de choix; le cœur des méchants est de peu de prix.
21 The lippes of the righteous doe feede many: but fooles shall die for want of wisedome.
Les lèvres du juste nourrissent beaucoup d’hommes, mais les insensés meurent par défaut d’intelligence.
22 The blessing of the Lord, it maketh riche, and he doeth adde no sorowes with it.
C’est la bénédiction du Seigneur qui procure la richesse, et la peine que l’on prend n’y ajoute rien.
23 It is as a pastime to a foole to doe wickedly: but wisedome is vnderstanding to a man.
Commettre le crime paraît un jeu à l’insensé; il en est de même de la sagesse pour l’homme intelligent.
24 That which the wicked feareth, shall come vpon him: but God wil graunt the desire of the righteous.
Ce que redoute le méchant lui arrive, et Dieu accorde au juste ce qu’il désire.
25 As the whirlewinde passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is as an euerlasting foundation.
Comme passe le tourbillon, le méchant disparaît; le juste est établi sur un fondement éternel.
26 As vineger is to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the slouthful to them that send him.
Ce que le vinaigre est aux dents et la fumée aux yeux, tel est le paresseux pour ceux qui l’envoient.
27 The feare of the Lord increaseth the dayes: but the yeeres of the wicked shalbe diminished.
La crainte de Yahweh augmente les jours, mais les années des méchants sont abrégées.
28 The patient abiding of the righteous shall be gladnesse: but the hope of the wicked shall perish.
L’attente des justes n’est que joie, mais l’espérance des méchants périra.
29 The way of the Lord is strength to the vpright man: but feare shall be for the workers of iniquitie.
La voie de Yahweh est un rempart pour le juste, mais elle est une ruine pour ceux qui font le mal.
30 The righteous shall neuer be remooued: but the wicked shall not dwell in the land.
Le juste ne chancellera jamais, mais les méchants n’habiteront pas la terre.
31 The mouth of the iust shall be fruitfull in wisdome: but the tongue of the froward shall be cut out.
La bouche du juste produit la sagesse, et la langue perverse sera arrachée.
32 The lips of the righteous knowe what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh froward things.
Les lèvres du juste connaissent la grâce, et la bouche des méchants la perversité.
