Numbers 35
1 And the Lord spake vnto Moses in the plaine of Moab by Iorden, toward Iericho, saying,
El Señor le habló a Moisés en las llanuras de Moab junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó. Le dijo,
2 Commande ye children of Israel, that they giue vnto the Leuites of the inheritace of their possession, cities to dwell in: yee shall giue also vnto the Leuites the suburbes of the cities round about them.
“Ordena a los israelitas que provean de sus ciudades de asignación de tierras para que los levitas vivan y pasten alrededor de las ciudades.
3 So they shall haue the cities to dwell in, and their suburbes shall be for their cattell, and for their substance, and for all their beasts.
Las ciudades son para que vivan en ellas, y los pastos serán para sus rebaños y para todo su ganado.
4 And the suburbes of the cities, which ye shall giue vnto the Leuites, from the wall of the citie outward, shalbe a thousand cubites round about.
Los pastos alrededor de las ciudades que le des a los levitas se extenderán desde el muro mil codos por todos lados.
5 And yee shall measure without the citie of the Eastside, two thousand cubites: and of the Southside, two thousand cubites: and of the Westside, two thousand cubites: and of ye Northside, two thousand cubites: and the citie shalbe in ye middes. this shalbe the measure of the suburbes of their cities.
Mide dos mil codos fuera de la ciudad al Este, dos mil al Sur, dos mil al Oeste y dos mil al Norte, con la ciudad en el medio. Estas áreas serán sus pastos alrededor de las ciudades.
6 And of the cities which yee shall giue vnto the Leuites, there shalbe sixe cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint, that he which killeth, may flee thither: and to them yee shall adde two and fourtie cities more.
“Seis de los pueblos que le das a los levitas serán pueblos santuarios, donde una persona que mata a alguien puede correr para protegerse. Además de estas ciudades, dale a los levitas cuarenta y dos más.
7 All the cities which yee shall giue to the Leuites, shalbe eight and fourtie cities: them shall ye giue with their suburbes.
El número total de pueblos que le darás a los levitas es de cuarenta y ocho, junto con sus pastos.
8 And concerning the cities which yee shall giue, of the possession of the children of Israel: of many ye shall take more, and of few ye shall take lesse: euery one shall giue of his cities vnto the Leuites, according to his inheritance, which hee inheriteth.
Las ciudades que asignes para ser entregadas a los levitas serán tomadas del territorio de los israelitas, y tomarás más de las tribus más grandes y menos las más pequeñas. El número será proporcional al tamaño de la asignación de tierras de cada tribu”.
9 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
El Señor le dijo a Moisés,
10 Speake vnto the children of Israel, and say vnto them, When ye be come ouer Iorden into the land of Canaan,
“Dile a los israelitas: ‘Cuando cruces el Jordán hacia Canaán,
11 Ye shall appoint you cities, to bee cities of refuge for you, that the slayer, which slayeth any person vnwares, may flee thither.
escoge pueblos como tus pueblos de santuario, para que una persona que mate a alguien por error pueda correr allí.
12 And these cities shalbe for you a refuge from the auenger, that he which killeth, die not, vntill he stand before the Congregation in iudgement.
Estas ciudades serán para ustedes santuario de los que buscan venganza, para que el asesino no muera hasta que sea juzgado en un tribunal.
13 And of the cities which ye shall giue, sixe cities shall ye haue for refuge.
“Las ciudades que elijan serán sus seis ciudades santuario.
14 Ye shall appoint three on this side Iorden, and ye shall appoint three cities in the lande of Canaan which shalbe cities of refuge.
Elijan tres ciudades al otro lado del Jordán y tres en Canaán como ciudades de refugio.
15 These six cities shalbe a refuge for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for him that dwelleth among you, that euery one which killeth any person vnwares, may flee thither.
Estas seis ciudades serán lugares de santuario para los israelitas y para los extranjeros o colonos entre ellos, de modo que cualquiera que mate a una persona por error pueda correr allí.
16 And if one smite another with an instrument of yron that hee die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.
“Pero si alguien golpea deliberadamente a alguien con algo hecho de hierro y lo mata, esa persona es un asesino y debe ser ejecutado.
17 Also if hee smite him by casting a stone, wherewith hee may be slaine, and he die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.
Si alguien tomaun trozo de piedra que pueda ser usado como arma y golpea a alguien con ella, y lo mata, esa persona es un asesino y debe ser ejecutado.
18 Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may be slaine, if he die, he is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.
Si alguien tomaun trozo de madera que pueda ser usado como arma y golpea a alguien con ella, y lo mata, esa persona es un asesino y debe ser ejecutado.
19 The reuenger of the blood himselfe shall slay the murtherer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.
“El vengador debe ejecutar al asesino. Cuando encuentre al asesino, lo matará.
20 But if hee thrust him of hate, or hurle at him by laying of wait, that he die,
De la misma manera, si uno odia al otro y lo derriba o le tira algo deliberadamente, y lo mata;
21 Or smite him through enimitie with his hand, that he die, he that smote him shall die ye death: for hee is a murtherer: the reuenger of the blood shall slay the murtherer when he meeteth him.
o si alguien golpea a otro con su mano y mueren, el que lo golpeó debe ser ejecutado porque es un asesino. Cuando el vengador encuentra al asesino, debe matarlo.
22 But if he pusshed him vnaduisedly, and not of hatred, or cast vpon him any thing, without laying of waite,
“Pero si alguien derriba a otro sin querer y sin odiarlo, o le tira algo sin querer hacerle daño,
23 Or any stone (whereby he might be slaine) and sawe him not, or caused it to fall vpon him, and he die, and was not his enemie, neither sought him any harme,
o deja caer descuidadamente una piedra pesada que lo mata, pero no como enemigo o con intención de hacerle daño,
24 Then the Congregation shall iudge betweene the slayer and the auenger of blood according to these lawes.
entonces la comunidad debe juzgar entre el asesino y el vengador siguiendo este reglamento.
25 And the Congregation shall deliuer the slayer out of the hande of the auenger of blood, and the Congregation shall restore him vnto the citie of his refuge, whither hee was fled: and hee shall abide there vnto the death of the hie Priest, which is anointed with the holy oyle.
El tribunal debe proteger al asesino de ser atacado por el vengador y debe devolverlo a la ciudad santuario a la que corrió, y debe permanecer allí hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote, que fue ungido con el óleo santo.
26 But if the slayer come without the borders of the citie of his refuge, whither he was fled,
“Pero si el asesino sale de los límites de la ciudad santuario a la que huyó,
27 And the reuenger of blood finde him without the borders of the citie of his refuge, and the reueger of blood slay ye murtherer, he shalbe giltles,
y el vengador lo encuentra fuera de su ciudad santuario y lo mata, entonces el vengador no será culpable de asesinato,
28 Because he should haue remained in the citie of his refuge, vntill the death of the hie Priest: and after the death of the hie Priest, the slayer shall returne vnto the land of his possession.
porque el asesino tiene que permanecer en su ciudad santuario hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote. Sólo después de la muerte del sumo sacerdote se les permite volver a la tierra que poseen.
29 So these thinges shall be a lawe of iudgement vnto you, throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
Estas normas se aplican a todas las generaciones futuras dondequiera que vivan.
30 Whosoeuer killeth any person, the Iudge shall slay the murtherer, through witnesses: but one witnesse shall not testifie against a person to cause him to die.
“Si alguien mata a una persona, el asesino debe ser ejecutado basándose en las pruebas aportadas por los testigos, en plural. Nadie debe ser ejecutado basándose en la evidencia dada por un solo testigo.
31 Moreouer ye shall take no recompense for the life of the murtherer, which is worthy to die: but he shalbe put to death.
“No se aceptará el pago en lugar de ejecutar a un asesino que ha sido declarado culpable.
32 Also ye shall take no recompense for him that is fled to the citie of his refuge, that he should come againe, and dwell in the lande, before the death of the hie Priest.
Tampoco se le permite aceptar el pago de una persona que huye a una ciudad santuario y le permite regresar y vivir en su propia tierra antes de la muerte del sumo sacerdote.
33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye shall dwell: for blood defileth the land: and the land cannot be clensed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
“No contaminen la tierra donde viven porque el derramamiento de sangre contamina la tierra, y la tierra donde se derrama la sangre no puede ser purificada excepto por la sangre de quien la derrama.
34 Defile not therefore the lande which yee shall inhabite, For I dwell in the middes thereof: for I the Lord dwel among the children of Israel.
No hagas impura la tierra donde vives porque yo también vivo allí. Yo soy el Señor, y vivo con los israelitas’”.
