Numbers 31
1 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se:
2 Reuenge the children of Israel of the Midianites, and afterwarde shalt thou be gathered vnto thy people.
“Trước ngày con qua đời, con sẽ báo thù người Ma-đi-an cho người Ít-ra-ên.”
3 And Moses spake to the people, saying, Harnesse some of you vnto warre, and let them goe against Midian, to execute the vengeance of the Lord against Midian.
Môi-se nói với dân chúng: “Một số người phải được trang bị khí giới để đi báo thù người Ma-đi-an, theo lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu.
4 A thousande of euery tribe throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye sende to the warre.
Mỗi đại tộc tuyển 1.000 người.”
5 So there were taken out of the thousands of Israel, twelue thousande prepared vnto warre, of euery tribe a thousand.
Và như vậy, từ trong các đại tộc Ít-ra-ên chọn 12.000 người tham dự trận này.
6 And Moses sent them to the warre, euen a thousand of euery tribe, and sent them with Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the Priest to the warre: and the holy instruments, that is, the trumpets to blow were in his hand.
Môi-se ra lệnh tiến công, có Phi-nê-a, con Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa đem theo các dụng cụ thánh và kèn đồng cầm nơi tay.
7 And they warred against Midian, as the Lord had commanded Moses, and slue all the males.
Trong trận này, họ giết sạch những người đàn ông Ma-đi-an, như Chúa Hằng Hữu phán cùng Môi-se
8 They slue also the Kings of Midian among them that were slaine: Eui and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur and Reba fiue kings of Midian, and they slue Balaam the sonne of Beor with the sworde:
kể cả năm vua Ma-đi-an là: Ê-vi, Rê-kem, Xu-rơ, Hu-rơ, và Rê-ba. Ba-la-am, con trai Bê-ô cũng chung số phận.
9 But the children of Israel tooke the women of Midian prisoners, and their children, and spoyled all their cattell, and all their flockes, and all their goods.
Đạo quân Ít-ra-ên bắt đàn bà, trẻ con Ma-đi-an, thu chiến lợi phẩm gồm bò, chiên, và của cải.
10 And they burnt all their cities, wherein they dwelt, and all their villages with fire.
Họ đốt các thành và trang trại của người Ma-đi-an.
11 And they tooke all the spoyle and all the pray both of men and beastes.
Họ lấy các chiến lợi phẩm, người, và súc vật,
12 And they brought the captiues and that which they had taken, and the spoyle vnto Moses and to Eleazar the Priest, and vnto the Congregation of the children of Israel, into ye campe in the playne of Moab, which was by Iorden toward Iericho.
đem tất cả người và của cải chiếm được đến trước Môi-se, Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa và cộng đồng dân chúng Ít-ra-ên đang cắm trại tại đồng bằng Mô-áp, bên Sông Giô-đan, đối diện Giê-ri-cô.
13 Then Moses and Eleazar the Priest, and all the princes of the Congregation went out of the campe to meete them.
Môi-se, Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa, và các nhà lãnh đạo cộng đồng Ít-ra-ên ra tận bên ngoài trại tiếp đón đoàn quân chiến thắng trở về.
14 And Moses was angry with the captaines of the hoste, with the captaines ouer thousands, and captaines ouer hundreds, which came from the warre and battel.
Nhưng Môi-se giận các cấp chỉ huy quân đội lắm (họ gồm những quan chỉ huy hàng nghìn và hàng trăm quân).
15 And Moses sayde vnto them, What? haue ye saued all the women?
Ông hỏi: “Tại sao các anh để cho tất cả phụ nữ Ma-đi-an sống?
16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel through the counsell of Balaam to commit a trespasse against the Lord, as concerning Peor, and there came a plague among the Congregation of the Lord.
Chính họ là những người đã vâng lời Ba-la-am, quyến rũ người Ít-ra-ên cúng thờ Phê-ô, phạm tội trọng với Chúa Hằng Hữu, vì thế mà tai họa đã xảy ra cho dân của Chúa Hằng Hữu.
17 Now therefore, slay all the males among the children, and kill all the women that haue knowen man by carnall copulation.
Thế thì, ta phải giết hết những con trai và tất cả phụ nữ đã nằm với đàn ông,
18 But all the women children that haue not knowen carnall copulation, keepe aliue for your selues.
nhưng để cho các trinh nữ sống, và dân chúng được giữ những trinh nữ này.
19 And ye shall remaine without the host seuen dayes, all that haue killed any person, and all that haue touched any dead, and purifie both your selues and your prisoners the third day and the seuenth.
Bây giờ, ai đã giết người hoặc đụng vào xác chết phải ở lại bên ngoài trại trong bảy ngày. Vào ngày thứ ba và ngày thứ bảy, phải tẩy sạch mình và người mình bắt được.
20 Also ye shall purifie euery garment and all that is made of skins and al worke of goates heare, and all things made of wood.
Cũng tẩy sạch áo xống, đồ dùng bằng da, bằng lông dê, và bằng gỗ.”
21 And Eleazar ye Priest sayd vnto the men of warre, which went to the battel, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses,
Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa cũng nhắc nhở các chiến sĩ: “Đây là quy tắc Chúa Hằng Hữu truyền cho Môi-se:
22 As for gold, and siluer, brasse, yron, tynne, and lead:
Vật gì có thể đưa vào lửa được như vật bằng vàng, bạc, đồng, sắt, thiếc, hoặc chì,
23 Euen all that may abide the fire, yee shall make it goe through the fire, and it shalbe cleane: yet, it shalbe purified with the water of purification: and all that suffereth not the fire, yee shall cause to passe by the water.
thì phải đưa vào lửa đốt cho sạch. Sau đó, cũng phải dùng nước tẩy uế mà tẩy sạch nữa. Còn vật gì không chịu được lửa, thì dùng nước tẩy uế mà thôi.
24 Ye shall wash also your clothes the seuenth day, and ye shalbe cleane: and afterward ye shall come into the Hoste.
Phải giặt sạch áo vào ngày thứ bảy và như thế anh em sẽ được sạch. Sau đó, anh em có thể vào trại.”
25 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se:
26 Take the summe of the praie that was taken, both of persons and of cattell, thou and Eleazar the Priest, and the chiefe fathers of the Congregation.
“Con sẽ cùng với Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa và các tộc trưởng lo kiểm kê các chiến lợi phẩm, cả người lẫn súc vật.
27 And deuide the praye betweene the souldiers that went to the warre, and all the Congregation.
Xong, chia chiến lợi phẩm ra làm hai phần, một phần thuộc về các chiến sĩ đã ra trận, phần kia thuộc về dân chúng.
28 And thou shalt take a tribute vnto ye Lord of the men of warre, which went out to battel: one person of fiue hundreth, both of the persons, and of the beeues, and of the asses, and of the sheepe.
Trong phần của các chiến sĩ, phải đem một phần năm trăm để dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu, gồm người, bò, lừa, và chiên.
29 Yee shall take it of their halfe and giue it vnto Eleazar the Priest, as an heaue offring of the Lord.
Phần trích ra này sẽ đem giao cho Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa để dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu.
30 But of the halfe of the children of Israel thou shalt take one, taken out of fiftie, both of the persons, of the beeues, of the asses, and of the sheepe, euen of all the cattel: and thou shalt giue them vnto the Leuites, which haue the charge of the Tabernacle of the Lord.
Cũng lấy một phần năm mươi trong phân nửa của dân chúng để cho người Lê-vi, là những người có trách nhiệm phục vụ Đền Tạm của Chúa Hằng Hữu. Phần này cũng gồm có người, bò, lừa, và chiên.”
31 And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord had commanded Moses.
Môi-se và Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa làm theo lời Chúa Hằng Hữu phán dạy.
32 And the bootie, to wit, the rest of the praie which the men of warre had spoyled, was sixe hundreth seuentie and fiue thousand sheepe,
Chiến lợi phẩm do các chiến sĩ thu được (không kể đến một số của cải khác) gồm có: 675.000 con chiên và dê,
33 And seuentie and two thousand beeues,
72.000 con bò,
34 And three score and one thousand asses,
61.000 con lừa,
35 And two and thirtie thousande persons in all, of women that had lyen by no man.
và 32.000 trinh nữ.
36 And the halfe, to wit, the part of them that went out to warre touching the nomber of sheepe, was three hundreth seuen and thirtie thousand, and fiue hundreth.
Như thế, phân nửa thuộc phần các chiến sĩ gồm có: 337.500 con chiên và dê,
37 And the Lordes tribute of the sheepe was sixe hundreth and seuentie and fiue:
trong đó trích ra nộp cho Chúa Hằng Hữu là 675 con;
38 And the beeues were six and thirty thousad, whereof the Lordes tribute was seuentie and two.
36.000 con bò, trong đó trích ra nộp cho Chúa Hằng Hữu là 72 con;
39 And the asses were thirtie thousande and fiue hundreth, whereof the Lordes tribute was three score and one:
30.500 con lừa, trong đó trích ra nộp cho Chúa Hằng Hữu là 61 con;
40 And of persons sixtene thousand, whereof the Lordes tribute was two and thirtie persons.
16.000 trinh nữ, trong đó trích ra nộp cho Chúa Hằng Hữu là 32 người
41 And Moses gaue the tribute of the Lordes offring vnto Eleazar the Priest, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
Môi-se vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, đem nộp cho Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa phần thuộc về Chúa Hằng Hữu.
42 And of the halfe of the children of Israel, which Moses deuided from the men of warre,
Phân nửa chiến lợi phẩm thuộc về người Ít-ra-ên được Môi-se chi cho (phân nửa kia thuộc các chiến sĩ,
43 (For the halfe that perteined vnto the Congregation, was three hundreth thirtie and seuen thousand sheepe and fiue hundreth,
phân nửa này chia cho dân chúng), gồm có: 337.000 con chiên và dê,
44 And sixe and thirtie thousand beeues,
36.000 con bò,
45 And thirtie thousand asses, and fiue hudreth,
30.500 con lừa,
46 And sixteene thousande persons)
và 16.000 trinh nữ.
47 Moses, I say, tooke of the halfe that perteined vnto the children of Israel, one taken out of fiftie, both of the persons, and of the cattell, and gaue them vnto the Leuites, which haue the charge of the Tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
Môi-se lấy hai phần trăm của phân nửa này, gồm cả người lẫn thú vật, đem cho người Lê-vi như Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo ông.
48 Then the captaines which were ouer thousandes of the hoste, the captaines ouer the thousandes, and the captaines ouer the hundreds came vnto Moses:
Các quan chỉ huy hàng nghìn và hàng trăm quân đến thưa với Môi-se:
49 And saide to Moses, Thy seruants haue taken the summe of the men of warre which are vnder our authoritie, and there lacketh not one man of vs.
“Chúng tôi đã kiểm điểm quân số và thấy là không một ai thiệt mạng cả.
50 We haue therefore brought a present vnto the Lord, what euery man found of iewels of golde, bracelets, and cheines, rings, eare ringes, and ornaments of the legges, to make an atonement for our soules before the Lord.
Ngoài ra, chúng tôi mang đến đây các vật đã thu được: Nữ trang bằng vàng, vòng đeo tay, vòng đeo chân, nhẫn, hoa tai, và dây chuyền. Xin dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu làm lễ chuộc tội.”
51 And Moses and Eleazar the Priest tooke the golde of them, and all wrought iewels,
Môi-se và Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa nhận các lễ vật từ tay các chỉ huy.
52 And all the golde of the offring that they offered vp to the Lord (of the captaines ouer thousands and hundreds) was sixteene thousande seuen hundreth and fiftie shekels,
Tổng số vàng dâng lên Chúa Hằng Hữu cân nặng 190 kg.
53 (For the men of warre had spoyled, euery man for him selfe)
Các chiến sĩ đều có thu hoạch chiến lợi phẩm riêng cho mình.
54 And Moses and Eleazar the Priest tooke the golde of the captaines ouer the thousandes, and ouer the hundreds, and brought it into the Tabernacle of the Congregation, for a memoriall of the children of Israel before the Lord.
Môi-se và Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa đem các lễ vật này cất vào Đền Tạm để làm một kỷ niệm của dân chúng Ít-ra-ên trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu.
