Numbers 25
1 Nowe whiles Israel abode in Shittim, the people began to commit whoredome with the daughters of Moab:
Alors Israël demeurait en Sittim, et le peuple commença à paillarder avec les filles de Moab.
2 Which called the people vnto the sacrifice of their gods, and the people ate, and bowed downe to their gods.
Car elles convièrent le peuple aux sacrifices de leurs dieux, et le peuple y mangea, et se prosterna devant leurs dieux.
3 And Israel coupled himselfe vnto Baal Peor: wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel:
Et Israël s'accoupla à Bahal-Péhor; c'est pourquoi la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël.
4 And the Lord sayde vnto Moses, Take all the heades of the people, and hang them vp before the Lord against ye sunne, that the indignation of the Lords wrath may be turned from Israel.
Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: Prends tous les chefs du peuple, et les fais pendre devant l'Eternel au soleil, et l'ardeur de la colère de l'Eternel se détournera d'Israël.
5 Then Moses sayd vnto the Iudges of Israel, Euery one slay his men that were ioyned vnto Baal Peor.
Moïse donc dit aux juges d'Israël: Que chacun de vous fasse mourir les hommes qui sont à sa charge, lesquels se sont joints à Bahal-Péhor.
6 And behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought vnto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the Congregation of the children of Israel, who wept before the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.
Et voici, un homme des enfants d'Israël vint, et amena à ses frères une Madianite, devant Moïse et devant toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, comme ils pleuraient à la porte du Tabernacle d'assignation.
7 And when Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the sonne of Aaron the Priest sawe it, hee rose vp from the middes of the Congregation, and tooke a speare in his hand,
Ce que Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, fils d'Aaron le Sacrificateur ayant vu, il se leva du milieu de l'assemblée, et prit une javeline en sa main.
8 And followed ye man of Israel into the tent, and thrust them both through: to wit, the man of Israel, and the woman, through her belly: so the plague ceased from the children of Israel.
Et il entra vers l'homme Israélite dans la tente, et les transperça tous deux par le ventre, l'homme Israélite et la femme; et la plaie fut arrêtée de dessus les enfants d'Israël.
9 And there died in that plague, foure and twentie thousand.
Or il y en eut vingt-quatre mille qui moururent de cette plaie.
10 Then the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse, en disant:
11 Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar, the sonne of Aaron the Priest, hath turned mine anger away from the children of Israel, while hee was zealous for my sake among them: therefore I haue not consumed the children of Israel in my ielousie.
Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, fils d'Aaron, le Sacrificateur, a détourné ma colère de dessus les enfants d'Israël, parce qu'il a été animé de mon zèle au milieu d'eux, et je n'ai point consumé les enfants d'Israël par mon ardeur.
12 Wherefore say to him, Beholde, I giue vnto him my couenant of peace,
C'est pourquoi, dis-lui: Voici, je lui donne mon alliance de paix.
13 And he shall haue it, and his seede after him, euen the couenant of the priestes office for euer, because he was zealous for his God, and hath made an atonement for the children of Israel.
Et l'alliance de Sacrificature perpétuelle sera tant pour lui, que pour sa postérité après lui, parce qu'il a été animé de zèle pour son Dieu, et qu'il a fait propitiation pour les enfants d'Israël.
14 And the name of the Israelite thus slayne, which was killed with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri the sonne of Salu, prince of the familie of the Simeonites.
Et le nom de l'homme Israélite tué, lequel fut tué avec la Madianite, était Zimri, fils de Salu, chef d'une maison de père des Siméonites.
15 And the name of the Midianitish woman, that was slayne, was Cozbi the daughter of Zur, who was head ouer the people of his fathers house in Midian.
Et le nom de la femme Madianite qui fut tuée était Cozbi, fille de Tsur, chef du peuple, et de maison de père en Madian.
16 Againe ye Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
L'Eternel parla aussi à Moïse, en disant:
17 Vexe the Midianites, and smite them:
Serrez de près les Madianites, et les frappez.
18 For they trouble you with their wiles, wherewith they haue beguiled you as concerning Peor, and as concerning their sister Cozbi ye daughter of a prince of Midian, which was slayne in the day of the plague because of Peor.
Car ils vous ont serrés [les premiers] par leurs ruses, par lesquelles ils vous ont surpris dans le fait de Péhor, et dans le fait de Cozbi, fille d'un des principaux d'entre les Madianites, leur sœur, qui a été tuée le jour de la plaie arrivée pour le fait de Péhor.
