Numbers 17

1 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

L’Éternel parla ainsi à Moïse:

2 Speake vnto the children of Israel, and take of euery one of them a rod, after the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the familie of their fathers, euen twelue rods: and thou shalt write euery mans name vpon his rod.

"Annonce aux enfants d’Israël que tu dois recevoir d’eux une verge respectivement par famille paternelle, de la part de tous leurs chefs de familles paternelles, ensemble douze verges; le nom de chacun, tu l’écriras sur sa verge.

3 And write Aarons name vpon the rod of Leui: for euery rodde shalbe for the head of the house of their fathers.

Et le nom d’Aaron, tu l’écriras sur la verge de Lévi, car il faut une seule verge par chef de famille paternelle.

4 And thou shalt put them in the Tabernacle of the Congregation, before the Arke of the Testimonie, where I wil declare my selfe to you.

Tu les déposeras dans la tente d’assignation, devant le statut où je vous donne habituellement rendez-vous.

5 And the mans rod, whome I chuse, shall blossome: and I will make cease from mee the grudgings of the children of Israel, which grudge against you.

Or, l’homme que j’aurai élu, sa verge fleurira, et ainsi mettrai-je fin à ces murmures contre moi, que les enfants d’Israël profèrent à cause de vous."

6 Then Moses spake vnto the children of Israel, and al their princes gaue him a rod, one rod for euery Prince, according to the houses of their fathers, euen twelue rods, and the rod of Aaron was among their roddes.

Moïse parla aux enfants d’Israël; et tous leurs phylarques lui remirent chacun une verge, selon leurs familles paternelles, ensemble douze verges; et la verge d’Aaron fut jointe aux leurs.

7 And Moses layde the rods before the Lord in the Tabernacle of the Testimonie.

Moïse déposa ces verges devant le Seigneur, dans la tente du statut.

8 And when Moses on the morow went into the Tabernacle of the Testimonie, beholde, the rod of Aaron for the house of Leui was budded, and brought forth buddes, and brought forth blossoms, and bare ripe almondes.

Or, le lendemain, Moïse entra dans la tente du statut, et voici qu’avait fleuri la verge d’Aaron, déposée pour la famille de Lévi: il y avait germé des boutons, éclos des fleurs, mûri des amandes.

9 Then Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord vnto all the children of Israel: and they looked vpon them, and tooke euery man his rodde.

Moïse retira toutes les verges de devant le Seigneur et les exposa devant les enfants d’Israël: ils les regardèrent, et reprirent chacun la sienne.

10 After, the Lord said vnto Moses, Bring Aarons rod againe before the Testimonie to bee kept for a token to the rebellious children, and thou shalt cause their murmurings to cease from me, that they dye not.

Et l’Éternel dit à Moïse: "Replace la verge d’Aaron devant le statut, comme signe durable à l’encontre des rebelles; tu feras cesser par là leurs murmures contre moi, et ils ne mourront point."

11 So Moses did as the Lord had commanded him: so did he.

Moïse obéit: comme l’Éternel lui avait ordonné, ainsi fit-il.

12 And the children of Israel spake vnto Moses, saying, Behold, we are dead, we perish, we are all lost:

Les enfants d’Israël parlèrent ainsi à Moïse: "Certes, c’est fait de nous, nous sommes perdus, tous perdus!

13 Whosoeuer commeth neere, or approcheth to the Tabernacle of the Lord, shall dye: shall we be consumed and dye?

Quiconque s’approche tant soit peu de la résidence du Seigneur est frappé de mort: sommes-nous donc tous destinés à périr?"
