Numbers 13
1 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
| خداوند به موسی فرمود: |
2 Sende thou men out to search the lande of Canaan which I giue vnto the children of Israel: of euery tribe of their fathers shall ye sende a man, such as are all rulers among them.
| «افرادی به سرزمین کنعان که می‌خواهم آن را به قوم اسرائیل بدهم بفرست تا آن را بررسی کنند. از هر قبیله یک رهبر بفرست.» |
3 Then Moses sent them out of the wildernesse of Paran at the commandement of the Lord: all those men were heades of the children of Israel.
| (در آن موقع بنی‌اسرائیل در صحرای فاران اردو زده بودند.) موسی طبق دستور خداوند عمل کرده، این دوازده رهبر را به سرزمین کنعان فرستاد. شموع پسر زکور، از قبیلهٔ رئوبین؛ شافاط پسر حوری، از قبیلهٔ شمعون؛ کالیب پسر یَفُنَه، از قبیلهٔ یهودا؛ یجال پسر یوسف، از قبیلهٔ یساکار؛ هوشع پسر نون، از قبیلهٔ افرایم؛ فلطی پسر رافو، از قبیلهٔ بنیامین؛ جدیئیل پسر سودی، از قبیلهٔ زبولون؛ جدی پسر سوسی، از قبیلهٔ منسی؛ عمیئیل پسر جملی، از قبیلهٔ دان؛ ستور پسر میکائیل، از قبیلهٔ اشیر؛ نحبی پسر وفسی، از قبیلهٔ نفتالی؛ جاوئیل پسر ماکی، از قبیلهٔ جاد. |
4 Also their names are these: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the sonne of Zaccur:
5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the sonne of Hori:
6 Of the tribe of Iudah, Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh:
7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the sonne of Ioseph:
8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the sone of Nun:
9 Of the tribe of Beniamin, Palti the sonne of Raphu:
10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the sone of Sodi:
11 Of the tribe of Ioseph, to wit, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the sonne of Susi:
12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the sonne of Gemalli:
13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the sonne of Michael:
14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the sonne of Vophsi:
15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the sonne of Machi.
16 These are the names of the men, which Moses sent to spie out the lande: and Moses called ye name of Oshea the sonne of Nun, Iehoshua.
| این بود نامهای کسانی که موسی برای بررسی سرزمین کنعان فرستاد. در همین موقع بود که موسی اسم هوشع را به یوشع تغییر داد. |
17 So Moses sent them to spie out the lande of Canaan, and said vnto them, Go vp this way toward the South, and go vp into the moutaines,
| هنگامی که موسی آنها را برای بررسی سرزمین کنعان فرستاد، به ایشان گفت: «از اینجا به سمت شمال بروید و از صحرای نِگِب گذشته، خود را به سرزمین کوهستانی برسانید، |
18 And consider the land what it is, and the people that dwel therein, whether they be strong or weake, either fewe or many,
| و ببینید وضعیت سرزمین موعود چگونه است و مردمی که در آنجا ساکنند، چگونه‌اند قوی هستند یا ضعیف؟ بسیارند یا کم؟ |
19 Also what the lande is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad: and what cities they be, that they dwell in, whether they dwell in tents, or in walled townes:
| زمینشان حاصلخیز است یا نه؟ شهرهایشان چگونه‌اند، حصار دارند یا بی‌حصارند؟ |
20 And what the land is: whether it be fat or leane, whether there be trees therein, or not. And be of good courage, and bring of the fruite of the lande (for then was the time of the first ripe grapes)
| زمینشان بارور است یا بایر؟ در آنجا درخت زیاد است یا کم؟ هراس به خود راه ندهید و مقداری از محصولات آنجا را به عنوان نمونه با خود بیاورید.» (آن موقع فصل نوبر انگور بود.) |
21 So they went vp, and searched out the lande, from the wildernesse of Zin vnto Rehob, to go to Hamath,
| پس ایشان رفته، وضع زمین را از بیابان صین تا رحوب نزدیک گذرگاه حمات بررسی کردند. |
22 And they ascended toward the South, and came vnto Hebron, where were Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the sonnes of Anak. And Hebron was built seuen yeere before Zoan in Egypt.
| در مسیر خود به سوی شمال، اول از صحرای نگب گذشته، به حبرون رسیدند. در آنجا قبایل اخیمان، شیشای و تلمای را که از نسل عناق بودند دیدند. (حبرون هفت سال قبل از صوعن مصر، بنا شده بود.) |
23 Then they came to the riuer of Eshcol, and cut downe thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it vpon a barre betweene two, and brought of the pomegranates and of the figges.
| سپس به جایی رسیدند که امروزه به درهٔ اشکول معروف است و در آنجا یک خوشه انگور چیدند و با خود آوردند. این خوشهٔ انگور به قدری بزرگ بود که آن را به چوبی آویخته دو نفر آن را حمل می‌کردند! مقداری انار و انجیر نیز برای نمونه با خود آوردند. |
24 That place was called the riuer Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes, which the children of Israel cut downe thence.
| آن دره به سبب آن خوشهٔ انگوری که چیده شده بود اشکول (یعنی «خوشه») نامیده شد. |
25 Then after fourtie dayes, they turned againe from searching of the land.
| پس از چهل روز ایشان از مأموریت خود بازگشتند. |
26 And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and vnto al the Congregation of the children of Israel, in the wildernesse of Paran, to Kadesh, and brought to the, and to all the Congregation tydings, and shewed them the fruite of the lande.
| آنان به موسی، هارون و تمام قوم اسرائیل که در قادش واقع در صحرای فاران بودند، از وضعیت آنجا گزارش داده، میوه‌هایی را هم که با خود آورده بودند به آنها نشان دادند. |
27 And they tolde him, and saide, We came vnto the land whither thou hast sent vs, and surely it floweth with milke and honie: and here is of the fruite of it.
| گزارش ایشان از این قرار بود: «به سرزمینی که ما را جهت بررسی آن فرستادی، رفتیم، سرزمینی است حاصلخیز که شیر و عسل در آن جاری است. این هم میوه‌هایی است که با خود آورده‌ایم. |
28 Neuerthelesse the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled and exceeding great: and moreouer, we sawe the sonnes of Anak there.
| اما ساکنان آنجا خیلی قوی هستند و شهرهایشان حصاردار و بسیار بزرگ است. از این گذشته غولهای عناقی را هم در آنجا دیدیم. |
29 The Amalekites dwell in the South countrey, and the Hittites, and the Iebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountaines, and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Iorden.
| عمالیقی‌ها در صحرای نگب، حیتی‌ها و یبوسی‌ها و اموری‌ها در نقاط کوهستانی، و کنعانی‌ها در ساحل دریای مدیترانه و کنارهٔ رود اردن سکونت دارند.» |
30 Then Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and saide, Let vs go vp at once, and possesse it: for vndoubtedly we shall ouercome it.
| کالیب، بنی‌اسرائیل را که در حضور موسی ایستاده بودند ساکت کرده، گفت: «بیایید بی‌درنگ هجوم ببریم و آنجا را تصرف کنیم، چون می‌توانیم آن را فتح نماییم.» |
31 But the men, that went vp with him, saide, we be not able to goe vp against the people: for they are stronger then we.
| اما همراهان کالیب گفتند: «ما از عهدهٔ این اقوام نیرومند بر نمی‌آییم، چون از ما قویترند.» |
32 So they brought vp an euill report of the land which they had searched for the children of Israel, saying, The lande which we haue gone through to search it out, is a land that eateth vp the inhabitants thereof: for all the people that we sawe in it, are men of great stature.
| بنابراین، گزارش آنها منفی و حاکی از آن بود که آن سرزمین آنها را از پای در خواهد آورد. آنها گفتند: «اهالی آنجا قوی هیکل هستند. |
33 For there we sawe gyants, the sonnes of Anak, which come of the gyants, so that we seemed in our sight like grashoppers: and so wee were in their sight.
| ما در آنجا مردمانی غول‌پیکر از نسل عناقیم دیدیم. چنان قد بلندی داشتند که ما در برابرشان همچون ملخ بودیم.» |
