Numbers 11
1 When the people became murmurers, it displeased the Lord: and the Lord heard it, therefore his wrath was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed the vtmost parte of the hoste.
Cependant il s’éleva un murmure du peuple contre le Seigneur, comme se plaignant de la fatigue. Le Seigneur l’ayant entendu, fut irrité; et le feu du Seigneur allumé contre eux, dévora l’extrémité du camp.
2 Then the people cryed vnto Moses: and when Moses praied vnto the Lord, the fire was quenched.
Alors, comme le peuple cria vers Moïse, Moïse pria le Seigneur, et le feu s’éteignit.
3 And he called the name of that place Taberah, because the fire of the Lord burnt among them.
Et il appela ce lieu du nom d’Embrasement, parce que le feu du Seigneur s’y était allumé contre eux.
4 And a nomber of people that was amog them, fell a lusting, and turned away, and the children of Israel also wept, and saide, Who shall giue vs flesh to eate?
Car une foule de gens de toute espèce, qui étaient montés avec eux, s’enflamma de convoitise, s’asseyant et pleurant, et les enfants d’Israël s’étant joints aussi à elle, elle dit: Qui nous donnera de la chair à manger?
5 We remember the fish which we did eat in Egypt for nought, the cucumbers, and the pepons, and the leekes, and the onions, and the garleke.
Nous nous souvenons des poissons que nous mangions en Egypte pour rien: ils nous viennent à l’esprit, les concombres, les melons, les poireaux, les ognons et les aulx.
6 But now our soule is dryed away, we can see nothing but this Man.
Notre âme est aride: nos yeux ne voient que la manne.
7 (The Man also was as coriander seede, and his colour like the colour of bdelium.
Or la manne était comme de la graine de coriandre, de la couleur du bdellium.
8 The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in milles, or beat it in morters, and baked it in a cauldron, and made cakes of it, and the taste of it was like vnto the taste of fresh oyle.
Et le peuple allait autour du camp, et la recueillant, il la brisait sous la meule, ou il la pilait dans le mortier, la cuisant dans la marmite, et en faisant de petites miches d’une saveur semblable à celle du pain pétri avec de l’huile.
9 And when the dewe fell downe vpon the hoste in the night, the Man fell with it)
Et lorsque la rosée descendait pendant la nuit sur le camp, la manne aussi descendait pareillement.
10 Then Moses heard the people weepe throughout their families, euery man in the doore of his tent, and the wrath of the Lord was grieuously kindled: also Moses was grieued.
Moïse entendit donc le peuple pleurant dans les familles, chacun à la porte de sa tente. Alors la fureur du Seigneur fut extrêmement irritée; et la chose parut aussi à Moïse insupportable.
11 And Moses saide vnto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou vexed thy seruant? and why haue I not found fauour in thy sight, seeing thou hast put the charge of al this people vpon mee?
Et il dit au Seigneur: Pourquoi avez-vous affligé votre serviteur? pourquoi ne trouvé-je point grâce devant vous? et pourquoi avez-vous mis le poids de tout ce peuple sur moi?
12 Haue I conceiued al this people? or haue I begotte them, that thou shouldest say vnto me, Cary them in thy bosome (as a nurse beareth the sucking childe) vnto the lande, for the which thou swarest vnto their fathers?
Est-ce moi qui ai conçu toute cette multitude, ou qui l’ai engendrée, pour que vous me disiez: Porte-les dans ton sein, comme la nourrice a coutume de porter son petit enfant, et conduis-les dans la terre au sujet de laquelle vous avez juré à leurs pères?
13 Where should I haue flesh to giue vnto al this people? for they weepe vnto me, saying, Giue vs flesh that we may eate.
D’où aurai-je de la chair pour en donner à une si grande multitude? ils pleurent contre moi, disant: Donne-nous de la chair, afin que nous en mangions.
14 I am not able to beare al this people alone, for it is too heauie for me.
Je ne puis seul soutenir tout ce peuple; parce qu’il est lourd pour moi.
15 Therefore if thou deale thus with mee, I pray thee, if I haue founde fauour in thy sight, kill me, that I behold not my miserie.
S’il ne vous en semble pas autrement, je demande instamment que vous me fassiez mourir, et que je trouve grâce à vos yeux, pour que je ne sois pas accablé de tant de maux.
16 Then the Lord said vnto Moses, Gather vnto me seuetie men of ye Elders of Israel, whome thou knowest, that they are the Elders of the people, and gouernonrs ouer them, and bring them vnto the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and let them stand there with thee,
Et le Seigneur répondit à Moïse: Assemble-moi soixante dix hommes d’entre les anciens d’Israël, que tu sais être les anciens du peuple et les maîtres; et tu les conduiras à la porte du tabernacle d’alliance, et tu les feras rester là avec toi,
17 And I will come downe, and talke with thee there, and take of the Spirite, which is vpon thee, and put vpon them, and they shall beare the burthen of the people with thee: so thou shalt not beare it alone.
Pour que je descende et que je te parle, que je prenne ton esprit et que je leur donne, afin qu’ils soutiennent avec toi le fardeau du peuple, et que toi seul, tu ne sois pas surchargé.
18 Furthermore thou shalt saye vnto the people, Bee sanctified against to morowe, and yee shall eate flesh: for you haue wept in the eares of the Lord, saying, Who shall giue vs flesh to eate? for we were better in Egypt: therefore the Lord will giue you flesh, and ye shall eate.
Tu diras aussi au peuple: Sanctifiez-vous, demain vous mangerez de la chair. Car moi-même je vous ai entendu dire: Qui nous donnera des aliments de chair? Nous étions bien en Egypte. Ainsi le Seigneur vous donnera de la chair, afin que vous en mangiez,
19 Ye shall not eat one day nor two daies, nor fiue daies, neither ten daies, nor twentie dayes,
Non pas un jour, ni deux, ni cinq, ni dix, ni même vingt.
20 But a whole moneth, vntill it come out at your nostrels, and bee lothesome vnto you, because ye haue contemned the Lord, which is among you, and haue wept before him, saying, Why came we hither out of Egypt?
Mais pendant un mois de jours, jusqu’à ce qu’elle sorte par vos narines, qu’elle devienne nauséabonde, parce que vous avez rejeté le Seigneur, qui est au milieu de vous, et que vous avez pleuré devant lui, disant: Pourquoi sommes-nous sortis de l’Egypte?
21 And Moses saide, Six hundreth thousande footemen are there of the people, among whom I am: and thou saiest, I will giue them flesh, that they may eate a moneth long.
Et Moïse dit: Il y a six cent mille hommes de pied dans ce peuple, et vous dites: Je leur donnerai des aliments de chair pendant un mois entier.
22 Shall the sheepe and the beeues be slaine for them, to finde them? either shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them to suffice them?
Est-ce qu’une multitude de brebis et de bœufs sera tuée, pour suffire à leur nourriture? ou bien tous les poissons de la mer seront-ils réunis, afin de les rassasier?
23 And the Lord saide vnto Moses, Is the Lordes hand shortened? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to passe vnto thee, or no.
Le Seigneur lui répondit: Est-ce que la main du Seigneur est impuissante? Dès à présent tu verras si ma parole se réalisera.
24 So Moses went out, and told the people the wordes of the Lord, and gathered seuentie men of the Elders of the people, and set them round about the Tabernacle.
Moïse vint donc et rapporta au peuple les paroles du Seigneur, rassemblant soixante-dix hommes d’entre les anciens d’Israël, qu’il plaça autour du tabernacle.
25 Then the Lord came downe in a cloude, and spake vnto him, and tooke of the Spirit that was vpon him, and put it vpon the seuentie Ancient men: and when the Spirit rested vpon them, then they prophecied, and did not cease.
Alors le Seigneur descendit dans la nuée, et parla à Moïse, prenant de l’esprit qui était en lui, et le donnant aux soixante-dix hommes. Or, lorsque l’Esprit se fut reposé en eux, ils prophétisèrent et ne cessèrent plus.
26 But there remained two of the men in the hoste: the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad, and the Spirit rested vpon them, (for they were of them that were written, and went not out vnto the Tabernacle) and they prophecied in the hoste.
Mais il était demeuré dans le camp deux hommes, dont l’un s’appelait Eldad, et l’autre Médad: l’Esprit se reposa sur eux; car ils avaient été enregistrés, et ils n’étaient pas sortis pour aller au tabernacle.
27 Then there ranne a yong man, and tolde Moses, and saide, Eldad and Medad doe prophesie in the hoste.
Et, comme ils prophétisaient dans le camp, un enfant courut et l’annonça à Moïse, disant: Eldad et Médad prophétisent dans le camp.
28 And Ioshua the sonne of Nun the seruant of Moses one of his yong men answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
Aussitôt Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur de Moïse, et choisi dans le plus grand nombre, dit: Mon seigneur Moïse, empêchez-les.
29 But Moses saide vnto him, Enuiest thou for my sake? yea, would God that all the Lordes people were Prophets, and that the Lord woulde put his Spirit vpon them.
Mais Moïse: Pourquoi, dit-il, es-tu jaloux pour moi? Plût à Dieu que tout le peuple prophétisât, et que le Seigneur leur donnât son esprit!
30 And Moses returned into the hoste, he and the Elders of Israel.
Et Moïse revint, ainsi que les anciens d’Israël, dans le camp.
31 Then there went foorth a winde from the Lord, and brought quailes from the Sea, and let them fall vpon the campe, a dayes iourney on this side, and a dayes iourney on the other side, round about the hoste, and they were about two cubites aboue the earth.
Mais un vent envoyé par le Seigneur, saisissant des cailles au-delà de la mer, les porta et les abattit dans le camp, de tout côté autour du camp, dans l’espace du chemin qu’on peut faire en un jour; et elles volaient en l’air à la hauteur de deux coudées au-dessus de la terre.
32 Then the people arose, al that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quailes: he that gathered the least, gathered ten Homers full, and they spred them abroade for their vse round about the hoste.
Le peuple, se levant donc durant tout ce jour-là, toute la nuit, et le jour suivant, amassa des cailles, chacun au moins dix mesures; et ils les firent sécher autour du camp.
33 While the flesh was yet betweene their teeth, before it was chewed, euen the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote the people with an exceeding great plague.
La chair était encore en leurs dents, et cet aliment n’était pas achevé; et voilà que la fureur du Seigneur excitée contre le peuple, le frappa d’une très grande plaie.
34 So the name of the place was called, Kibroth-hattaauah: for there they buried the people that fell a lusting.
Aussi ce lieu fut-il appelé: Sépulcres de la concupiscence; là, en effet, on ensevelit le peuple qui avait désiré de la chair. Mais sortis des Sépulcres de la concupiscence, ils vinrent à Haséroth et y demeurèrent.
35 From Kibroth-hattaauah ye people tooke their iourney to Hazeroth, and abode at Hazeroth.
