Nehemiah 6
1 And when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had built the wall, and that there were no more breaches therein, (though at that time I had not set vp the doores vpon the gates)
Sanballat aber, Tobia, dem Araber Gesem und unseren anderen Feinden kam es zu Ohren, daß ich die Mauer aufgebaut und daß keine Bresche darin zurückgeblieben sei. Nur Tore hatte ich bis dahin noch nicht eingesetzt.
2 Then sent Sanballat and Geshem vnto me, saying, Come thou that we may meete together in the villages in the plaine of Ono: and they thought to doe me euill.
Da schickten Sanballat und Gesem zu mir und ließen sagen: "Auf! Wir wollen im Tal Ono in Kephirim zusammenkommen." Sie aber planten, mir Böses zu tun.
3 Therefore I sent messengers vnto them, saying, I haue a great worke to doe, and I can not come downe: why should the worke cease, whiles I leaue it, and come downe to you?
Ich sandte zu ihnen Boten und ließ melden: "Ich arbeite an einem großen Werk. Darum kann ich nicht hinunterkommen. Warum soll das Werk feiern, wenn ich es ließe und zu euch käme?"
4 Yet they sent vnto me foure times after this sort. And I answered them after the same maner.
So schickten sie zu mir in dieser Weise viermal. Und ich gab ihnen stets die gleiche Antwort.
5 Then sent Sanballat his seruant after this sorte vnto me the fift time, with an open letter in his hand,
Da schickte Sanballat, auf diese Weise zum fünftenmal, seinen Diener zu mir mit einem offenen Brief in der Hand.
6 Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu hath sayd it, that thou and the Iewes thinke to rebel, for the which cause thou buildest the wall and thou wilt bee their King according to these wordes.
Darin stand geschrieben: "Man hört bei den Heiden reden - auch Gasmu sagt es -, du und die Judäer planten Aufruhr. Deshalb bautest du die Mauer auf. Du selbst wolltest, nach diesen Gerüchten, bei ihnen König werden.
7 Thou hast also ordeyned the Prophets to preach of thee at Ierusalem, saying, There is a King in Iudah: and nowe according to these wordes it shall come to the Kings eares: come now therefore, and let vs take counsell together.
Sogar Propheten habest du angestellt, um zu Jerusalem von dir zu künden: 'In Juda König!' Nun wird dem König solches zu Ohren kommen. Darum auf! Wir wollen zusammen darüber beraten."
8 Then I sent vnto him, saying, It is not done according to these wordes that thou sayest: for thou feynest them of thine owne heart.
Ich aber schickte zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: "Nichts von all dem, was du sagst, ist geschehen. Aus deinem Herzen erdichtest du es."
9 For all they afrayed vs, saying, Their handes shalbe weakened from the worke, and it shall not be done: nowe therefore incourage thou me.
Denn sie alle wollten uns bange machen. Sie dachten: "Ihre Hände werden schlaff bei dem Werke, so daß es nicht ausgeführt wird." Nun hieß es Mut fassen.
10 And I came to the house of Shemaiah the sonne of Delaiah the sonne of Mehetabeel, and he was shut vp, and he said, Let vs come together into the house of God in the middes of the Temple, and shut the doores of the Temple: for they will come to slay thee: yea, in the night will they come to kill thee.
Ich aber ging in das Haus Semajas, des Delajasohnes und Enkels des Mehetabel. Es war gut verschließbar. Da sprach er: "Treffen wir uns im Gotteshaus, im Innern des Tempels, und schließen wir die Tempeltore zu! Denn sie kommen, dich zu ermorden. Sie kommen bei Nacht, dich zu ermorden."
11 Then I said, Should such a man as I, flee? Who is he, being as I am, that would go into the Temple to liue? I will not goe in.
Ich sprach: "Ein Mann wie ich sollte fliehen? Wer meinesgleichen dächte in den Tempel gehen und leben bleiben? Ich gehe nicht."
12 And loe, I perceiued, that God had not sent him, but that he pronounced this prophecie against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
Und ich erkannte, daß nicht Gott ihn gesandt hatte, sondern er verkündete mir die Weissagung, weil Tobia und Sanballat ihn gedungen hatten.
13 Therefore was he hyred, that I might be afrayde, and doe thus, and sinne, and that they might haue an euill report that they might reproche me.
Er war gedungen worden, daß ich Angst bekäme und also täte und mich versündigte. Dieses hätte ihnen als üble Nachrede gedient, mich zu verlästern.
14 My God, remember thou Tobiah, and Sanballat according vnto these their workes, and Noadiah the Prophetesse also, and the rest of the Prophets that would haue put me in feare.
Gedenke, mein Gott, dem Tobia und dem Sanballat nach diesen ihren Taten! Auch Noadja, der Prophetin, und den anderen Propheten, die mir Angst machen wollen!
15 Notwithstanding the wall was finished on the fiue and twentieth day of Elul, in two and fiftie dayes.
Die Mauer aber ward am fünfundzwanzigsten Elul im Laufe von zweiundfünfzig Tagen fertig.
16 And when all our enemies heard thereof, euen all the heathen that were about vs, they were afraid, and their courage failed them: for they knew, that this worke was wrought by our God.
Als unsere Feinde dies hörten, fürchteten sich alle Heiden unserer Nachbarschaft und wurden kleinlaut. Sie erkannten, daß von unserem Gott dies Werk geschehen war.
17 And in these dayes were there many of the princes of Iudah, whose letters went vnto Tobiah, and those of Tobiah came vnto them.
Noch in jenen Tagen kamen Briefe vieler Adliger Judas an Tobia, und solche von Tobia kamen an sie.
18 For there were many in Iudah, that were sworne vnto him: for he was the sonne in lawe of Shechaniah, the sonne of Arah: and his sonne Iehonathan had the daughter of Meshullam, the sonne of Berechiah.
Denn in Judäa waren viele seiner geschworenen Freunde, weil er der Schwiegersohn des Arachsohnes Sekanja war. Und Jonatan, sein Sohn, hatte die Tochter des Berekjahsohnes Mesullam heimgeführt.
19 Yea, they spake in his praise before me, and tolde him my wordes, and Tobiah sent letters to put me in feare.
Selbst seine guten Absichten besprachen sie vor mir, und meine Worte hinterbrachten sie ihm. Tobia sandte dazu Briefe, mir Angst zu machen.
