Nehemiah 1
1 The words of Nehemiah the sonne of Hachaliah. In ye moneth Chisleu, in the twentieth yeere, as I was in the palace of Shushan,
Récits de Néhémias, fils d'Helcias. Au mois de chaseleu, en la vingtième année, j'étais à Suse, résidence royale.
2 Came Hanam, one of my brethren, he and the men of Iudah, and I asked them concerning the Iewes that were deliuered, which were of the residue of the captiuitie, and concerning Ierusalem.
Et Anani, l'un de mes frères, vint, lui et des hommes de Juda, et je les questionnai, tant sur ceux qui étaient demeurés de la captivité et vivaient encore, que sur Jérusalem.
3 And they sayde vnto me, The residue that are left of the captiuitie there in the prouince, are in great affliction and in reproche, and the wall of Ierusalem is broken downe, and the gates thereof are burnt with fire.
Et ils me dirent: Ceux qui sont demeurés, et qui ont été laissés de la captivité, sont dans la terre promise en grande détresse et opprobre; les murs de Jérusalem ont été abattus, et ses portes brûlées par le feu.
4 And when I heard these wordes, I sate downe and wept, and mourned certeine dayes, and I fasted and prayed before the God of heauen,
Or, quand j'eus ouï de telles paroles, je m'assis et pleurai, et, pendant plusieurs jours, me lamentai, et j'étais jeûnant et priant devant le Dieu du ciel.
5 And sayde, O Lord God of heauen, the great and terrible God, that keepeth couenant and mercy for them that loue him, and obserue his commandements,
Et je dis: Que cela ne soit, je vous prie, Seigneur Dieu du ciel, Dieu fort, grand et redoutable qui gardez votre alliance et votre miséricorde à ceux qui vous aiment et observent vos commandements.
6 I pray thee, let thine eares be attet, and thine eies open, to heare the praier of thy seruat, which I pray before thee dayly, day and night for ye childre of Israel thy seruats, and confesse the sinnes of the children of Israel, which we haue sinned against thee, both I and my fathers house haue sinned:
Que votre oreille soit attentive, que vos yeux s'ouvrent, afin d'ouïr l'oraison de votre serviteur que je fais maintenant devant vous, nuit et jour, pour vos serviteurs les enfants d'Israël; et je me confesse pour les péchés des enfants d'Israël, en lesquels nous avons péché contre vous. Moi et la maison de mon père avons péché.
7 We haue grieuously sinned against thee, and haue not kept the commandements, nor the statutes, nor the iudgements, which thou commandedst thy seruant Moses.
Nous avons rompu l'alliance; nous n'avons point gardé les commandements, les jugements et les ordonnances que vous avez intimés à Moïse, votre serviteur.
8 I beseeche thee, remember the worde that thou commandedst thy seruant Moses, saying, Ye wil transgresse, and I will scatter you abroade among the people.
Souvenez-vous de la parole que vous avez intimée à Moïse, votre serviteur, disant: Si vous manquez à notre alliance, je vous disperserai parmi les nations.
9 But if ye turne vnto me, and keepe my commandements, and doe them, though your scattering were to the vttermost part of the heauen, yet will I gather you from thence, and will bring you vnto the place that I haue chosen to place my Name there.
Et si vous revenez à moi, si vous gardez mes commandements, si vous les pratiquez, quand vous seriez disséminés jusqu'aux lieux où la terre touche le ciel, je vous en ramènerai, je vous réunirai en la terre que j'ai choisie pour que mon nom y réside.
10 Now these are thy seruants and thy people, whome thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy mightie hand.
Et voici vos serviteurs et votre peuple que vous avez rachetés par votre toute-puissance et votre forte main.
11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let thine eare now hearken to the prayer of thy seruant, and to the prayer of thy seruants, who desire to feare thy Name, and I pray thee, cause thy seruant to prosper this day, and giue him fauour in the presence of this man: for I was the Kings butler.
Qu'ils ne demeurent pas ainsi, Seigneur; mais que votre oreille soit attentive à l'oraison de votre serviteur et à celle de vos serviteurs qui veulent craindre votre nom. Soyez-lui propice aujourd'hui à votre serviteur; faites qu'il trouve miséricorde devant les hommes; or, j'étais échanson du roi.
