Nahum 1
1 The burden of Nineueh. The booke of the vision of Nahum the Elkeshite.
Ausspruch über Ninive. Das Buch des Gesichtes Nahums, des Elkoschiters.
2 God is ielous, and the Lord reuengeth: the Lord reuengeth: euen the Lord of anger, the Lord will take vengeance on his aduersaries, and he reserueth wrath for his enemies.
Ein eifernder und rächender Gott [El] ist Jehova, ein Rächer ist Jehova und voll von Grimm; Jehova übt Rache an seinen Widersachern und trägt seinen Feinden nach.
3 The Lord is slow to anger, but he is great in power, and will not surely cleare the wicked: the Lord hath his way in ye whirlewind, and in the storme, and the cloudes are the dust of his feete.
Jehova ist langsam zum Zorn und groß an Kraft, und er hält keineswegs für schuldlos [O. läßt keineswegs ungestraft] den Schuldigen. Jehova-im Sturmwind und im Gewitter ist sein Weg, und Gewölk ist der Staub seiner Füße.
4 He rebuketh the sea, and dryeth it, and he dryeth vp all the riuers: Bashan is wasted and Carmel, and the floure of Lebanon is wasted.
Er schilt das Meer und legt es trocken, und alle Flüsse macht er versiegen; Basan und Karmel verwelken, und es verwelkt die Blüte des Libanon.
5 The mountaines tremble for him, and the hilles melt, and the earth is burnt at his sight, yea, the worlde, and all that dwell therein.
Vor ihm erbeben die Berge und zerfließen die Hügel, und vor seinem Angesicht erhebt sich die Erde [Vergl. Jes. 13,13,] und der Erdkreis und alle, die darauf wohnen.
6 Who can stande before his wrath? or who can abide in the fiercenesse of his wrath? his wrath is powred out like fire, and the rockes are broken by him.
Wer kann vor seinem Grimme bestehen, und wer standhalten bei der Glut seines Zornes? Sein Grimm ergießt sich wie Feuer, und die Felsen werden von ihm zerrissen.
7 The Lord is good and as a strong hold in the day of trouble, and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Jehova ist gütig, er ist eine Feste [O. ein Schutz, eine Zuflucht] am Tage der Drangsal; und er kennt die, welche auf ihn vertrauen [Eig. die Zuflucht zu ihm nehmen.]
8 But passing ouer as with a flood, he will vtterly destroy the place thereof, and darknesse shall pursue his enemies.
Und mit einer überschwemmenden Flut wird er ihre Stätte [d. i. Ninives] gänzlich zerstören, und Finsternis wird [And. üb.: in [od. mit] Finsternis wird er] seine Feinde verfolgen.
9 What doe ye imagine against the Lord? he wil make an vtter destruction: affliction shall not rise vp the seconde time.
Was sinnet ihr wider Jehova? [O. [an die Juden gerichtet] Was denket ihr von Jehova?] Er wird gänzlich zerstören; die Drangsal wird nicht zweimal erstehen.
10 For he shall come as vnto thornes folden one in another, and as vnto drunkards in their drunkennesse: they shall be deuoured as stubble fully dryed.
Denn wären sie gar wie Dornen verflochten und von ihrem edlen Weine berauscht, sie sollen völlig verzehrt werden wie dürre Stoppeln.
11 There commeth one out of thee that imagineth euill against the Lord, euen a wicked counsellour.
Von dir [d. i. Ninive] ist ausgegangen, der Böses sann wider Jehova, ein nichtswürdiger Ratgeber.
12 Thus saith the Lord, Though they be quiet, and also many, yet thus shall they be cut off when he shall passe by: though I haue afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
So spricht Jehova: Wenn sie gleich unversehrt und noch so zahlreich sind, auch so sollen sie weggemäht werden; und er wird dahin sein. -Und habe ich dich [d. i. Juda] auch niedergebeugt, ich werde dich nicht mehr niederbeugen;
13 For nowe I will breake his yoke from thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
sondern ich werde nun sein Joch von dir zerbrechen und deine Bande zerreißen. -
14 And the Lord hath giuen a commandement concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sowen: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the grauen, and the molten image: I will make it thy graue for thee, for thou art vile.
Und über dich [d. i. den Assyrer] hat Jehova geboten, daß von deinem Namen nicht mehr gesät werden soll; aus dem Hause deines Gottes werde ich das geschnitzte und das gegossene Bild ausrotten; ich werde dir ein Grab machen, denn verächtlich bist du [O. zu leicht bist du erfunden.]
15 Beholde vpon the mountaines the feete of him that declareth, and publisheth peace: O Iudah, keepe thy solemne feastes, perfourme thy vowes: for the wicked shall no more passe thorowe thee: he is vtterly cut off.
Siehe, auf den Bergen die Füße dessen, der gute Botschaft bringt, der Frieden [Zugl.: Heil] verkündigt! Feiere, Juda, deine Feste, bezahle deine Gelübde! denn der Nichtswürdige wird fortan nicht mehr durch dich ziehen; er ist ganz ausgerottet.
