Matthew 5
1 And when he sawe the multitude, he went vp into a mountaine: and when he was set, his disciples came to him.
૧ત્યારે ઘણાં લોકને જોઈને ઈસુ પહાડ પર ચઢ્યાં; ત્યાં તેમના બેઠા પછી તેમના શિષ્યો તેમની પાસે આવ્યા.
2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
૨તેમણે પોતાનું મુખ ઉઘાડીને તેઓને ઉપદેશ કરતાં કહ્યું કે.
3 Blessed are the poore in spirit, for theirs is the kingdome of heauen.
૩“આત્મામાં જેઓ નિર્ધન છે તેઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે સ્વર્ગનું રાજ્ય તેઓનું છે.
4 Blessed are they that mourne: for they shall be comforted.
૪જેઓ શોક કરે છે તેઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે તેઓ દિલાસો પામશે.
5 Blessed are the meeke: for they shall inherite the earth.
૫જેઓ નમ્ર છે તેઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે તેઓ પૃથ્વીનું વતન પામશે.
6 Blessed are they which hunger and thirst for righteousnes: for they shalbe filled.
૬જેઓને ન્યાયીપણાની ભૂખ તથા તરસ છે તેઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે તેઓ તૃપ્ત થશે.
7 Blessed are the mercifull: for they shall obteine mercie.
૭દયાળુઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે તેઓ દયા પામશે.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
૮મનમાં જેઓ શુદ્ધ છે તેઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે તેઓ ઈશ્વરને જોશે.
9 Blessed are the peace makers: for they shall be called the children of God.
૯સુલેહ કરાવનારાંઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે તેઓ ઈશ્વરના દીકરા કહેવાશે.
10 Blessed are they which suffer persecution for righteousnes sake: for theirs is the kingdome of heauen.
૧૦ન્યાયીપણાને લીધે જેઓની સતાવણી કરાઈ છે તેઓ આશીર્વાદિત છે; કેમ કે સ્વર્ગનું રાજ્ય તેઓનું છે.
11 Blessed shall ye be when men reuile you, and persecute you, and say all maner of euill against you for my sake, falsely.
૧૧જયારે લોકો તમારી નિંદા કરશે અને તમને સતાવશે તથા મારે લીધે તમારી વિરુદ્ધ જાત જાતની ખોટી વાત અસત્યતાથી કહેશે, ત્યારે તમે આશીર્વાદિત છો.
12 Reioyce and be glad, for great is your reward in heauen: for so persecuted they the Prophets which were before you.
૧૨તમે આનંદ કરો તથા ખૂબ હરખાઓ, કેમ કે સ્વર્ગમાં તમારો બદલો મોટો છે. તમારી અગાઉનાં પ્રબોધકોની સાથે લોકોએ આ રીતે જુલમ કર્યા હતા.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt haue lost his sauour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be troden vnder foote of men.
૧૩તમે માનવજગતનું મીઠું છો; પણ જો મીઠું બેસ્વાદ થયું તો તે શાથી ખારું કરાશે? બહાર ફેંકાવા તથા માણસોના પગ નીચે છુંદાવા વગર તે કશા કામનું નથી.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A citie that is set on an hill, cannot be hid.
૧૪તમે માનવજગતનું અજવાળું છો. પહાડ પર વસાવેલું નગર સંતાઈ રહી શકતું નથી.
15 Neither doe men light a candel, and put it vnder a bushel, but on a candlesticke, and it giueth light vnto all that are in the house.
૧૫દીવો કરીને તેને વાસણ નીચે નહિ, પણ દીવી પર મૂકવામાં આવે છે, ત્યારે ઘરમાંના બધાને તે અજવાળું આપે છે.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good workes, and glorifie your Father which is in heauen.
૧૬તેમ જ તમે તમારું અજવાળું લોકોની આગળ એવું પ્રકાશવા દો કે તેઓ તમારાં સદકૃત્યો જોઈને સ્વર્ગમાંનાં તમારા પિતાનો મહિમા કરે.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the Lawe, or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy them, but to fulfill them.
૧૭એમ ન ધારો કે હું નિયમશાસ્ત્ર અથવા પ્રબોધકોની વાતોનો નાશ કરવાને આવ્યો છું; હું નાશ કરવા નહિ, પણ પૂર્ણ કરવા આવ્યો છું.
18 For truely I say vnto you, Till heauen, and earth perish, one iote or one title of the Law shall not scape, till all things be fulfilled.
૧૮કેમ કે હું તમને નિશ્ચે કહું છું કે, આકાશ તથા પૃથ્વી જતા રહે ત્યાં સુધી સઘળાં પૂરાં થયા વગર નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાંથી એક કાનો અથવા માત્રા જતી રહેશે નહિ.
19 Whosoeuer therefore shall breake one of these least commandements, and teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdome of heauen: but whosoeuer shall obserue and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdome of heauen.
૧૯એ માટે આ સૌથી નાની આજ્ઞાઓમાંની એકને જો કોઈ તોડશે અથવા માણસોને એવું કરવાનું શીખવશે, તો તે સ્વર્ગના રાજ્યમાં સૌથી નાનો કહેવાશે. પણ જો કોઈ તે પાળશે અને શીખવશે તે સ્વર્ગના રાજ્યમાં મોટો કહેવાશે.
20 For I say vnto you, except your righteousnes exceede the righteousnes of the Scribes and Pharises, ye shall not enter into the kingdome of heauen.
૨૦કેમ કે હું તમને કહું છું કે શાસ્ત્રીઓના તથા ફરોશીઓના ન્યાયીપણા કરતાં જો તમારું ન્યાયીપણું વધારે ન હોય, તો સ્વર્ગના રાજ્યમાં તમે પ્રવેશ નહિ જ કરશો.
21 Ye haue heard that it was sayd vnto them of the olde time, Thou shalt not kill: for whosoeuer killeth shalbe culpable of iudgement.
૨૧‘હત્યા ન કર’, અને ‘જે કોઈ હત્યા કરે તે અપરાધી ઠરવાના જોખમમાં આવશે,’ એમ પહેલાંના સમયનાં લોકોએ કહ્યું હતું, તે તમે સાંભળ્યું છે.
22 But I say vnto you, whosoeuer is angry with his brother vnaduisedly, shalbe culpable of iudgment. And whosoeuer sayth vnto his brother, Raca, shalbe worthy to be punished by the Councill. And whosoeuer shall say, Foole, shalbe worthy to be punished with hell fire. (Geenna g1067)
૨૨પણ હવે હું તમને કહું છું કે, જે કોઈ પોતાના ભાઈ પર કારણ વગર ક્રોધ કરે છે, તે અપરાધી ઠરવાના જોખમમાં આવશે; જે પોતાના ભાઈને ‘બેવકૂફ’ કહેશે, તે ન્યાયસભામાં અપરાધી ઠરવાના જોખમમાં આવશે; જે તેને કહેશે કે ‘તું મૂર્ખ છે’, તે નરકાગ્નિના જોખમમાં આવશે. (Geenna g1067)
23 If then thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remembrest that thy brother hath ought against thee,
૨૩એ માટે જો તું તારું અર્પણ યજ્ઞવેદી પાસે લાવે અને જો ત્યાં તને યાદ આવે કે મારા ભાઈને મારી વિરુદ્ધ કંઈક છે,
24 Leaue there thine offring before the altar, and goe thy way: first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
૨૪તો ત્યાં યજ્ઞવેદી આગળ તારું અર્પણ મૂકીને જા, પ્રથમ તારા ભાઈની સાથે સુલેહ કર અને ત્યાર પછી આવીને તારું અર્પણ ચઢાવ.
25 Agree with thine aduersarie quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him, lest thine aduersarie deliuer thee to the Iudge, and the Iudge deliuer thee to ye sergeant, and thou be cast into prison.
૨૫જ્યાં સુધી તું તારા દુશ્મનની સાથે માર્ગમાં છે, ત્યાં સુધી તેની સાથે ત્વરિત સમાધાન કર; રખેને તારો દુશ્મન તને ન્યાયાધીશને સોંપે, ન્યાયાધીશ તને સિપાઈને સોંપે અને તને જેલમાં પૂરવામાં આવે.
26 Verely I say vnto thee, thou shalt not come out thence, till thou hast payed the vtmost farthing.
૨૬ખરેખર હું તમને કહું છું કે, તમે પૂરેપૂરો દંડ ચૂકવશો નહિ, ત્યાં સુધી તમે ત્યાંથી નીકળશો નહિ.
27 Ye haue heard that it was sayd to them of olde time, Thou shalt not commit adulterie.
૨૭‘વ્યભિચાર ન કરો’, એમ કહ્યું હતું, તે તમે સાંભળ્યું છે.
28 But I say vnto you, that whosoeuer looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adulterie with her already in his heart.
૨૮પણ હું તમને કહું છું કે, સ્ત્રી ઉપર જે કોઈ ખોટી નજર કરે છે, તેણે એટલામાં જ પોતાના મનમાં તેની સાથે વ્યભિચાર કર્યો છે.
29 Wherefore if thy right eye cause thee to offend, plucke it out, and cast it from thee: for better it is for thee, that one of thy members perish, then that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
૨૯જો તારી જમણી આંખ તને પાપ કરવા પ્રેરે, તો તેને કાઢી નાખીને તારી પાસેથી ફેંકી દે, કેમ કે તારા અંગોમાંના એકનો નાશ થાય, અને તારું આખું શરીર નર્કમાં ન નંખાય, એ તને ગુણકારક છે. (Geenna g1067)
30 Also if thy right hand make thee to offend, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for better it is for thee that one of thy members perish, then that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
૩૦જો તારો જમણો હાથ તને પાપ કરવા પ્રેરે, તો તેને કાપી નાખીને તારી પાસેથી ફેંકી દે, કેમ કે તારા અંગોમાંના એકનો નાશ થાય, અને તારું આખું શરીર નર્કમાં ન નંખાય, એ તને ગુણકારક છે. (Geenna g1067)
31 It hath bene sayd also, Whosoeuer shall put away his wife, let him giue her a bill of diuorcement.
૩૧‘જે કોઈ પોતાની પત્નીને છોડી દે તે તેને છૂટાછેડા લખી આપે’, એમ પણ કહેલું હતું.
32 But I say vnto you, whosoeuer shall put away his wife (except it be for fornication) causeth her to commit adulterie: and whosoeuer shall marrie her that is diuorced, committeth adulterie.
૩૨પણ હું તમને કહું છું કે, વ્યભિચારના કારણ વગર જે કોઈ પોતાની સ્ત્રીને છોડી દે, તે તેની પાસે વ્યભિચાર કરાવે છે; અને જે કોઈ તે ત્યજી દીધેલી સ્ત્રી સાથે લગ્ન કરે છે તે પણ વ્યભિચાર કરે છે.
33 Againe, ye haue heard that it was sayd to them of old time, Thou shalt not forsweare thy selfe, but shalt performe thine othes to the Lord.
૩૩વળી, ‘તું જૂઠા સમ ન ખા, પણ પ્રભુ પ્રત્યે તારા સમ પૂરા કર’, એમ પહેલાના સમયમાં લોકોને કહેલું હતું, તે તમે સાંભળ્યું છે.
34 But I say vnto you, Sweare not at all, neither by heauen, for it is the throne of God:
૩૪પણ હું તમને કહું છું કે, કોઈ પણ પ્રકારના સમ ન ખાઓ; સ્વર્ગના નહિ, કેમ કે તે ઈશ્વરનું રાજ્યાસન છે;
35 Nor yet by the earth: for it is his footestoole: neither by Hierusalem: for it is the citie of the great King.
૩૫પૃથ્વીના નહિ, કેમ કે તે તેમનું પાયાસન છે; અને યરુશાલેમના નહિ, કેમ કે તે મોટા રાજાનું નગર છે.
36 Neither shalt thou sweare by thine head, because thou canst not make one heare white or blacke.
૩૬તમે તમારા માથાના પણ સમ ન ખાઓ, કેમ કે તમે એક વાળને પણ સફેદ અથવા કાળો કરી શકતા નથી.
37 But let your communication be Yea, yea: Nay, nay. For whatsoeuer is more then these, commeth of euill.
૩૭પણ તમારું બોલવું તે ‘હા’ તે ‘હા’ અને ‘ના’ તે ‘ના’ હોય, કેમ કે એ કરતાં અધિક જે કંઈ છે તે દુષ્ટ તરફથી છે.
38 Ye haue heard that it hath bene sayd, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.
૩૮‘આંખને બદલે આંખ અને દાંતને બદલે દાંત’, તેમ કહેલું હતું, તે તમે સાંભળ્યું છે.
39 But I say vnto you, Resist not euill: but whosoeuer shall smite thee on thy right cheeke, turne to him the other also.
૩૯પણ હું તમને કહું છું કે જે દુર્જન હોય તેમની સામા ન થાઓ; પણ જે કોઈ તારા જમણાં ગાલ પર તમાચો મારે, તેની તરફ બીજો પણ ફેરવ.
40 And if any man wil sue thee at the law, and take away thy coate, let him haue thy cloke also.
૪૦જે તારો કોટ લેવા માટેનો દાવો કરીને તને ન્યાયસભામાં લઈ જવા ઇચ્છે, તેને તારું પહેરણ પણ લેવા દે.
41 And whosoeuer will compell thee to goe a mile, goe with him twaine.
૪૧જે કોઈ તને બળજબરીથી એક માઇલ લઈ જાય, તો તેની સાથે બે માઇલ જા.
42 Giue to him that asketh, and from him that would borowe of thee, turne not away.
૪૨જે કોઈ તારી પાસે માગે તેને તું આપ અને તારી પાસે જે ઉછીનું લેવા ચાહે, તેનાથી મોં ન ફેરવ.
43 Ye haue heard that it hath bin said, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour, and hate your enemie.
૪૩‘તું તારા પડોશી પર પ્રેમ કર અને તારા દુશ્મન પર દ્વેષ કર’, તેમ કહેલું હતું, તે તમે સાંભળ્યું છે.
44 But I say vnto you, Loue your enemies: blesse them that curse you: doe good to them that hate you, and pray for them which hurt you, and persecute you,
૪૪પણ હું તમને કહું છું કે તમે તમારા દુશ્મનો પર પ્રેમ કરો અને જેઓ તમને સતાવે છે તેઓને માટે પ્રાર્થના કરો,
45 That ye may be the children of your father that is in heauen: for he maketh his sunne to arise on the euill, and the good, and sendeth raine on the iust, and vniust.
૪૫એ માટે કે તમે સ્વર્ગમાંના તમારા પિતાના દીકરા થાઓ. કેમ કે તે સૂર્યને દુષ્ટ તથા ભલા પર ઉગાવે છે અને ન્યાયી તથા અન્યાયી પર વરસાદ મોકલે છે.
46 For if ye loue them, which loue you, what rewarde shall you haue? Doe not the Publicanes euen the same?
૪૬કેમ કે જેઓ તમારા પર પ્રેમ કરે છે, તેઓ પર જો તમે પ્રેમ કરો છો, તો તમને શો બદલો મળે? દાણીઓ પણ શું એમ નથી કરતા?
47 And if ye be friendly to your brethren onely, what singular thing doe ye? doe not euen the Publicanes likewise?
૪૭જો તમે કેવળ તમારા ભાઈઓને સલામ કરો છો, તો તમે વિશેષ શું કરો છો? દેવ વગરના લોકો પણ શું એમ નથી કરતાં?
48 Ye shall therefore be perfit, as your Father which is in heauen, is perfite.
૪૮એ માટે જેવા તમારા સ્વર્ગમાંના પિતા સંપૂર્ણ છે તેવા તમે પણ સંપૂર્ણ થાઓ.
