Matthew 3
1 And in those dayes, Iohn the Baptist came and preached in the wildernes of Iudea,
Siku hizo Yohana Mbatizaji alikuja akihubiri katika nyika ya Uyahudi, akisema,
2 And said, Repent: for the kingdome of heauen is at hand.
“Tubuni, kwa maana Ufalme wa Mbinguni umekaribia.”
3 For this is he of whome it is spoken by the Prophet Esaias, saying, The voyce of him that crieth in the wildernes, Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make his pathes straight.
Huyu ndiye yule aliyenenwa habari zake na nabii Isaya aliposema: “Sauti ya mtu aliaye huko nyikani, ‘Tayarisheni njia kwa ajili ya Bwana, yanyoosheni mapito yake.’”
4 And this Iohn had his garment of camels heare, and a girdle of a skinne about his loynes: his meate was also locusts and wilde hony.
Basi Yohana alivaa mavazi yaliyotengenezwa kwa singa za ngamia, akiwa na mkanda wa ngozi kiunoni mwake. Chakula chake kilikuwa nzige na asali ya mwitu.
5 Then went out to him Ierusalem and all Iudea, and all the region rounde about Iordan.
Watu walikuwa wakimwendea kutoka Yerusalemu, Uyahudi yote na nchi zote za kandokando ya Mto Yordani.
6 And they were baptized of him in Iordan, confessing their sinnes.
Nao wakaziungama dhambi zao, akawabatiza katika Mto Yordani.
7 Now when he sawe many of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces come to his baptisme, he said vnto them, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the anger to come?
Lakini alipowaona Mafarisayo na Masadukayo wengi wakija ili kubatizwa, aliwaambia: “Ninyi watoto wa nyoka! Ni nani aliyewaonya kuikimbia ghadhabu inayokuja?
8 Bring foorth therefore fruite worthy amendment of life.
Basi zaeni matunda yastahiliyo toba.
9 And thinke not to say with your selues, We haue Abraham to our father: for I say vnto you, that God is able euen of these stones to raise vp children vnto Abraham.
Wala msidhani mnaweza kusema mioyoni mwenu kuwa, ‘Sisi tunaye Abrahamu, baba yetu.’ Nawaambia kuwa Mungu anaweza kumwinulia Abrahamu watoto kutoka kwa mawe haya.
10 And now also is the axe put to the roote of the trees: therfore euery tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen downe, and cast into ye fire.
Hata sasa shoka limeshawekwa tayari kwenye shina la kila mti, basi kila mti usiozaa matunda mazuri, hukatwa na kutupwa motoni.
11 In deede I baptize you with water to amendment of life, but he that commeth after me, is mightier then I, whose shoes I am not worthie to beare: hee will baptize you with the holy Ghost, and with fire.
“Mimi nawabatiza kwa maji kwa ajili ya toba. Lakini nyuma yangu anakuja yeye aliye na uwezo kuliko mimi, ambaye sistahili hata kuvichukua viatu vyake. Yeye atawabatiza kwa Roho Mtakatifu na kwa moto.
12 Which hath his fanne in his hand, and wil make cleane his floore, and gather his wheate into his garner, but will burne vp the chaffe with vnquenchable fire.
Pepeto lake liko mkononi mwake, naye atasafisha sakafu yake ya kupuria, na kuikusanya ngano ghalani na kuyateketeza makapi kwa moto usiozimika.”
13 Then came Iesus from Galile to Iordan vnto Iohn, to be baptized of him.
Kisha Yesu akaja kutoka Galilaya mpaka Mto Yordani ili Yohana ambatize.
14 But Iohn earnestly put him backe, saying, I haue neede to be baptized of thee, and commest thou to me?
Lakini Yohana akajitahidi kumzuia, akimwambia, “Mimi ninahitaji kubatizwa na wewe, nawe waja kwangu nikubatize?”
15 Then Iesus answering, saide to him, Let be nowe: for thus it becommeth vs to fulfill all righteousnes. So he suffered him.
Lakini Yesu akamjibu, “Kubali hivi sasa, kwa maana ndivyo itupasavyo kwa njia hii kuitimiza haki yote.” Hivyo Yohana akakubali.
16 And Iesus when hee was baptized, came straight out of the water. And lo, the heaues were opened vnto him, and Iohn saw the Spirit of God descending like a doue, and lighting vpon him.
Naye Yesu alipokwisha kubatizwa, mara alipotoka ndani ya maji, ghafula mbingu zikafunguka, akamwona Roho wa Mungu akishuka kama hua na kutulia juu yake.
17 And loe, a voyce came from heauen, saying, This is my beloued Sonne, in whome I am well pleased.
Nayo sauti kutoka mbinguni ikasema, “Huyu ni Mwanangu mpendwa, ambaye ninapendezwa sana naye.”
