Matthew 2
1 When Jesus then was borne at Bethleem in Iudea, in the dayes of Herod the King, beholde, there came Wisemen from the East to Hierusalem,
Jésus étant né à Bethléhem, en Judée, aux jours du roi Hérode, des mages d'Orient arrivèrent à Jérusalem,
2 Saying, Where is that King of the Iewes that is borne? for wee haue seene his starre in the East, and are come to worship him.
et ils dirent: Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient de naître? Car nous avons vu son étoile en Orient, et nous sommes venus l'adorer.
3 When King Herod heard this, he was troubled, and all Hierusalem with him.
A cette nouvelle, le roi Hérode fut troublé, et tout Jérusalem avec lui.
4 And gathering together all the chiefe Priestes and Scribes of the people, hee asked of them, where Christ should be borne.
Ayant rassemblé tous les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes du peuple, il s'informa auprès d'eux du lieu où le Christ devait naître.
5 And they saide vnto him, At Beth-leem in Iudea: for so it is written by the Prophet,
Ils lui dirent: C'est à Bethléhem, en Judée; car voici ce qui a été écrit par le prophète:
6 And thou Beth-leem in the lande of Iuda, art not the least among the Princes of Iuda: For out of thee shall come the gouernour that shall feede that my people Israel.
«Et toi, Bethléhem, terre de Juda, tu n'es certainement pas la moindre entre les principales villes de Juda; car c'est de toi que sortira le chef qui paîtra Israël, mon peuple».
7 Then Herod priuily called the Wisemen, and diligently inquired of them the time of the starre that appeared,
Alors Hérode, ayant appelé les mages en secret, s'enquit exactement auprès d'eux du temps où l'étoile était apparue;
8 And sent them to Beth-leem, saying, Goe, and searche diligently for the babe: and when ye haue founde him, bring mee worde againe, that I may come also, and worship him.
et, les envoyant à Bethléhem, il leur dit: Allez, prenez des informations exactes sur ce petit enfant; et, quand vous l'aurez trouvé, faites-le-moi savoir, afin que j'aille, moi aussi, l'adorer.
9 So when they had heard the King, they departed: and loe, the starre which they had seene in the East, went before them, till it came and stoode ouer the place where the babe was.
Après avoir entendu le roi, les mages partirent. Et voici que l'étoile, qu'ils avaient vue en Orient, allait devant eux, jusqu'au moment où, arrivée au-dessus du lieu où se trouvait le petit enfant, elle s'arrêta.
10 And when they sawe the starre, they reioyced with an exceeding great ioy,
A la vue de l'étoile, ils eurent une fort grande joie.
11 And went into the house, and founde the babe with Mary his mother, and fell downe, and worshipped him, and opened their treasures, and presented vnto him giftes, euen golde, and frankincense, and myrrhe.
Etant entrés dans la maison, ils virent le petit enfant avec Marie, sa mère; et, se prosternant devant lui, ils l'adorèrent. Puis ils ouvrirent leurs trésors, et ils lui présentèrent des dons, de l'or, de l'encens et de la myrrhe.
12 And after they were warned of God in a dreame, that they should not go againe to Herod, they returned into their countrey another way.
Ensuite, ayant été divinement avertis par un songe de ne pas retourner auprès d'Hérode, ils revinrent dans leur pays par un autre chemin.
13 After their departure, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeareth to Ioseph in a dreame, saying, Arise, and take the babe and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there til I bring thee word: for Herod will seeke the babe, to destroy him.
Après qu'ils furent partis, voici qu'un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph et lui dit: Lève-toi! Prends le petit enfant et sa mère, fuis en Egypte, et tu y resteras jusqu'à ce que je te parle; car Hérode cherchera le petit enfant pour le faire mourir.
14 So he arose and tooke the babe and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,
Alors Joseph, s'étant levé, prit pendant la nuit le petit enfant et sa mère; et il se retira en Egypte.
15 And was there vnto the death of Herod, that that might be fulfilled, which is spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying, Out of Egypt haue I called my sonne.
Il y demeura jusqu'à la mort d'Hérode; ainsi fut accompli ce que le Seigneur avait dit par le prophète: «J'ai appelé mon fils hors d'Egypte».
16 Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked of the Wisemen, was exceeding wroth, and sent foorth, and slew all the male children that were in Beth-leem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two yeere old and vnder, according to the time which he had diligently searched out of the Wisemen.
Quand Hérode vit qu'il avait été joué par les mages, il fut fort en colère; et il envoya tuer tous les enfants qui étaient dans Bethléhem et dans tout son territoire, depuis l'âge de deux ans et au-dessous, d'après la date exacte que les mages lui avaient fait connaître.
17 Then was that fulfilled which is spoken by the Prophet Ieremias, saying,
Alors s'accomplit ce qui avait été dit par Jérémie, le prophète:
18 In Rhama was a voyce heard, mourning, and weeping, and great howling: Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they were not.
«Un cri a été entendu dans Rama, des lamentations et de grands gémissements: c'est Rachel qui pleure ses enfants, et elle ne veut pas être consolée, parce qu'ils ne sont plus!»
19 And whe Herod was dead, behold, an Angel of the Lord appeareth in a dreame to Ioseph in Egypt,
Mais après qu'Hérode fut mort, voici qu'un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph, en Egypte; et il lui dit:
20 Saying, Arise, and take the babe and his mother, and goe into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the babes life.
Lève-toi, prends le petit enfant et sa mère, et retourne dans le pays d'Israël; car ceux qui en voulaient à la vie du petit enfant sont morts.
21 Then he arose vp and tooke the babe and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
Joseph, s'étant levé, prit le petit enfant et sa mère, et il rentra dans le pays d'Israël.
22 But whe he heard that Archelaus did reigne in Iudea in stead of his father Herod, he was afraide to go thither: yet after he was warned of God in a dreame, he turned aside into the parts of Galile,
Mais quand il sut qu'Archélaüs régnait sur la Judée à la place d'Hérode, son père, il n'osa pas y aller. Ayant été divinement averti en songe, il se retira dans le territoire de la Galilée,
23 And went and dwelt in a citie called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Prophets, which was, That hee should be called a Nazarite.
et il alla demeurer dans une ville appelée Nazareth. Ainsi fut accompli ce qui avait été dit par les prophètes: «Il sera appelé Nazaréen!»
