Matthew 14
1 At that time Herod the Tetrarche heard of the fame of Iesus,
In jener Zeit vernahm Herodes, der Vierfürst, von Jesus.
2 And sayde vnto his seruaunts, This is that Iohn Baptist, hee is risen againe from the deade, and therefore great woorkes are wrought by him.
Er sprach zu seinen Höflingen: "Das ist Johannes der Täufer. Er ist von den Toten auferstanden, deshalb wirken in ihm Gottes Kräfte."
3 For Herod had taken Iohn, and bounde him, and put him in prison for Herodias sake, his brother Philips wife.
Herodes hatte nämlich Johannes gefangennehmen, fesseln und ins Gefängnis werfen lassen der Herodias, dem Weibe Philippus', seines Bruders, zu Gefallen.
4 For Iohn saide vnto him, It is not lawfull for thee to haue her.
Denn Johannes hatte ihm vorgehalten: "Es ist dir nicht erlaubt, sie zu besitzen."
5 And when hee woulde haue put him to death, hee feared the multitude, because they counted him as a Prophet.
Er hätte ihn gern getötet, jedoch er fürchtete das Volk; denn dieses sah ihn als einen Propheten an.
6 But when Herods birth day was kept, the daughter of Herodias daunced before them, and pleased Herod.
Am Geburtsfest des Herodes tanzte die Tochter der Herodias im Kreise der Gäste. Dies gefiel Herodes so,
7 Wherefore he promised with an othe, that he would giue her whatsoeuer she would aske.
daß er ihr unter einem Eid versprach, ihr zu geben, was immer sie verlangen würde.
8 And shee being before instructed of her mother, sayde, Giue mee here Iohn Baptists head in a platter.
Von ihrer Mutter angestiftet, sprach sie: "Gib mir hier auf einer Schüssel den Kopf Johannes des Täufers!"
9 And the King was sorie: neuerthelesse because of the othe, and them that sate with him at the table, he commanded it to be giuen her,
Da ward der König tief betrübt; jedoch des Eides und der Gäste wegen befahl er, ihn zu geben.
10 And sent, and beheaded Iohn in the prison.
Also ließ er den Johannes im Gefängnis enthaupten.
11 And his head was brought in a platter, and giuen to the maide, and shee brought it vnto her mother.
Man brachte seinen Kopf auf einer Schüssel und gab ihn dem Mädchen, und diese brachte ihn ihrer Mutter.
12 And his disciples came, and tooke vp the bodie, and buried it, and went, and tolde Iesus.
Seine Jünger holten dann den Leichnam und begruben ihn. Hierauf erzählten sie es Jesus.
13 And when Iesus heard it, hee departed thence by shippe into a desert place apart. And when the multitude had heard it, they followed him on foote out of the cities.
Auf diese Nachricht hin zog sich Jesus von da zurück; auf einem Boote ging er allein an einen abgelegenen Ort. Die Scharen merkten dies und folgten ihm zu Fuß von den Städten her.
14 And Iesus went foorth and sawe a great multitude, and was mooued with compassion toward them, and he healed their sicke.
Er stieg aus und sah die große Menge, empfand ein herzliches Erbarmen über sie und heilte ihre Kranken.
15 And when euen was come, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desart place, and the time is alreadie past: let the multitude depart, that they may goe into the townes, and bye them vitailes.
Als es schon spät geworden war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm hin und sprachen: "Der Ort ist einsam und die Zeit schon vorgerückt. Entlaß daher die Scharen. Sie mögen in die Dörfer gehen und sich Nahrung kaufen."
16 But Iesus saide to them, They haue no neede to goe away: giue yee them to eate.
Doch Jesus sprach zu ihnen: "Sie brauchen gar nicht wegzugehen; gebt ihr ihnen zu essen."
17 Then saide they vnto him, Wee haue here but fiue loaues, and two fishes.
Da sagten sie zu ihm: "Wir haben nur fünf Brote und zwei Fische hier."
18 And he saide, Bring them hither to me.
"So bringet sie mir her", sprach er.
19 And hee commanded the multitude to sit downe on the grasse, and tooke the fiue loaues and the two fishes, and looked vp to heauen and blessed, and brake, and gaue the loaues to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Dann hieß er die Scharen sich auf dem Grase zu lagern, nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, schaute auf zum Himmel und segnete. Er brach sodann die Brote und gab sie seinen Jüngern; die Jünger gaben sie den Scharen.
20 And they did all eate, and were sufficed, and they tooke vp of the fragments that remained, twelue baskets full.
Und alle aßen und wurden satt; ja, noch zwölf Körbe trugen sie hinweg, voll mit Stücken, die übriggeblieben waren.
21 And they that had eaten, were about fiue thousande men, beside women and litle children.
Es waren derer, die gegessen hatten, an fünftausend Männer; die Frauen und Kinder nicht gerechnet.
22 And straightway Iesus compelled his disciples to enter into a shippe, and to goe ouer before him, while he sent the multitude away.
Und sogleich drängte er die Jünger, in das Boot zu steigen und an das andere Ufer ihm vorauszufahren; er wollte die Scharen inzwischen entlassen.
23 And assoone as hee had sent the multitude away, he went vp into a moutaine alone to pray: and when the euening was come, hee was there alone.
Und er entließ die Scharen und stieg allein auf einen Berg, um dort zu beten.
24 And the shippe was nowe in the middes of the sea, and was tossed with waues: for it was a contrarie winde.
Es war schon spät, und er war dort ganz allein. Das Boot war schon viele Stadien vom Land entfernt mitten auf dem Meere von Wellen hart bedrängt; sie hatten nämlich Gegenwind.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night, Iesus went vnto them, walking on the sea.
Da, um die vierte Nachtwache, kam er zu ihnen, auf dem Meere daherwandelnd.
26 And when his disciples sawe him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit, and cried out for feare.
Die Jünger sahen ihn, wie er auf dem Meere wandelte; sie erschraken und riefen: "Ein Gespenst!" Sie schrien laut vor Angst.
27 But straight way Iesus spake vnto them, saying, Be of good comfort, It is I: be not afraide.
Doch alsbald redete sie Jesus an und sprach: "Nur Mut! Ich bin es. Habt keine Angst."
28 Then Peter answered him, and saide, Master, if it be thou, bid me come vnto thee on the water.
Und Petrus sprach zu ihm: "Herr, wenn du willst, so heiße mich auf dem Wasser zu dir kommen."
29 And he saide, Come. And when Peter was come downe out of the shippe, he walked on the water, to goe to Iesus.
Er sprach: "Komm!" Da stieg Petrus aus dem Boot und schritt über das Wasser hin und ging auf Jesus zu.
30 But when he sawe a mightie winde, he was afraide: and as he began to sinke, he cried, saying, Master, saue me.
Als er jedoch den starken Wind verspürte, bekam er Angst; er fing an zu sinken und schrie: "Herr, rette mich!"
31 So immediatly Iesus stretched foorth his hande, and caught him, and saide to him, O thou of litle faith, wherefore diddest thou doubt?
Sogleich streckte Jesus seine Hand aus, faßte ihn und sprach: "Kleingläubiger, warum hast du gezweifelt?"
32 And assoone as they were come into the ship, the winde ceased.
Darauf stiegen sie ins Boot, und sogleich legte sich der Wind.
33 Then they that were in the ship, came and worshipped him, saying, Of a trueth thou art the Sonne of God.
Die im Boote waren, fielen vor ihm nieder mit den Worten: "Wahrhaftig, du bist der Sohn Gottes."
34 And when they were come ouer, they came into the land of Gennezaret.
Sie fuhren vollends über und kamen bei Genesareth ans Land.
35 And when the men of that place knewe him, they sent out into all that countrey rounde about, and brought vnto him all that were sicke,
Sobald die Leute ihn dort erkannten, schickten sie in jener Gegend überall herum, und man brachte alle Kranken zu ihm.
36 And besought him, that they might touch the hemme of his garment onely: and as many as touched it, were made whole.
Und diese baten ihn, sie möchten nur den Saum seines Kleides berühren. Und alle, die ihn berührten, wurden ganz gesund.
