Matthew 11
1 And it came to passe that when Iesus had made an ende of commaunding his twelue disciples, hee departed thence to teache and to preach in their cities.
Ja kun Jeesus oli antanut kahdelletoista opetuslapselleen kaikki nämä käskyt, niin hän lähti sieltä opettamaan ja saarnaamaan heidän kaupunkeihinsa.
2 And when Iohn heard in the prison the woorkes of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and sayde vnto him,
Mutta kun Johannes vankilassa ollessaan kuuli Kristuksen teot, lähetti hän opetuslapsiansa
3 Art thou he that shoulde come, or shall we looke for another?
sanomaan hänelle: "Oletko sinä se tuleva, vai pitääkö meidän toista odottaman?"
4 And Iesus answering, said vnto them, Goe, and shewe Iohn, what things ye heare, and see.
Niin Jeesus vastasi ja sanoi heille: "Menkää ja kertokaa Johannekselle, mitä kuulette ja näette:
5 The blinde receiue sight, and the halt doe walke: the lepers are clensed, and the deafe heare, the dead are raised vp, and the poore receiue the Gospel.
sokeat saavat näkönsä, ja rammat kävelevät, pitaliset puhdistuvat, ja kuurot kuulevat, ja kuolleet herätetään, ja köyhille julistetaan evankeliumia.
6 And blessed is he that shall not be offeded in me.
Ja autuas on se, joka ei loukkaannu minuun."
7 And as they departed, Iesus beganne to speake vnto the multitude, of Iohn, What went ye out into the wildernes to see? A reede shaken with the winde?
Kun he olivat menneet, rupesi Jeesus puhumaan kansalle Johanneksesta: "Mitä te lähditte erämaahan katselemaan? Ruokoako, jota tuuli huojuttaa?
8 But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that weare soft clothing, are in Kings houses.
Vai mitä lähditte katsomaan? Ihmistäkö, hienoihin vaatteisiin puettua? Katso, hienopukuiset ovat kuningasten kartanoissa.
9 But what went ye out to see? A Prophet? Yea, I say vnto you, and more then a Prophet.
Vai mitä te lähditte? Profeettaako katsomaan? Totisesti, minä sanon teille: hän on enemmän kuin profeetta.
10 For this is he of whom it is written, Beholde, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Tämä on se, josta on kirjoitettu: 'Katso, minä lähetän enkelini sinun edelläsi, ja hän on valmistava tiesi sinun eteesi'.
11 Verely I say vnto you, among them which are begotten of women, arose there not a greater then Iohn Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is the least in the kingdome of heauen, is greater then he.
Totisesti minä sanon teille: ei ole vaimoista syntyneitten joukosta noussut suurempaa kuin Johannes Kastaja; mutta vähäisin taivasten valtakunnassa on suurempi kuin hän.
12 And from the time of Iohn Baptist hitherto, the kingdome of heauen suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
Mutta Johannes Kastajan päivistä tähän asti hyökätään taivasten valtakuntaa vastaan, ja hyökkääjät tempaavat sen itselleen.
13 For all the Prophetes and the Lawe prophecied vnto Iohn.
Sillä kaikki profeetat ja laki ovat ennustaneet Johannekseen asti;
14 And if ye will receiue it, this is that Elias, which was to come.
ja jos tahdotte ottaa vastaan: hän on Elias, joka oli tuleva.
15 He that hath eares to heare, let him heare.
Jolla on korvat, se kuulkoon.
16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like vnto litle children which sit in the markets, and call vnto their fellowes,
Mutta mihin minä vertaan tämän sukupolven? Se on lasten kaltainen, jotka istuvat toreilla ja huutavat toisilleen
17 And say, We haue piped vnto you, and ye haue not daunced, we haue mourned vnto you, and ye haue not lamented.
sanoen: 'Me soitimme teille huilua, ja te ette karkeloineet; me veisasimme itkuvirsiä, ja te ette valittaneet'.
18 For Iohn came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a deuill.
Sillä Johannes tuli, hän ei syö eikä juo, ja he sanovat: 'Hänessä on riivaaja'.
19 The sonne of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Beholde a glutton and a drinker of wine, a friend vnto Publicanes and sinners: but wisedome is iustified of her children.
Ihmisen Poika tuli, hän syö ja juo, ja he sanovat: 'Katso syömäriä ja viininjuojaa, publikaanien ja syntisten ystävää!' Ja viisaus on oikeaksi näytetty teoissansa."
20 Then began he to vpbraide the cities, wherein most of his great workes were done, because they repented not.
Sitten hän rupesi nuhtelemaan niitä kaupunkeja, joissa useimmat hänen voimalliset tekonsa olivat tapahtuneet, siitä, etteivät ne olleet tehneet parannusta:
21 Woe be to thee, Chorazin: Woe be to thee, Bethsaida: for if ye great workes, which were done in you, had bene done in Tyrus and Sidon, they had repented long agone in sackecloth and ashes.
"Voi sinua, Korasin! Voi sinua, Beetsaida! Sillä jos ne voimalliset teot, jotka ovat tapahtuneet teissä, olisivat tapahtuneet Tyyrossa ja Siidonissa, niin nämä jo aikaa sitten olisivat säkissä ja tuhassa tehneet parannuksen.
22 But I say to you, It shalbe easier for Tyrus and Sidon at the day of iudgement, then for you.
Mutta minä sanon teille: Tyyron ja Siidonin on tuomiopäivänä oleva helpompi kuin teidän.
23 And thou, Capernaum, which art lifted vp vnto heauen, shalt be brought downe to hell: for if the great workes, which haue bin done in thee, had bene done among them of Sodom, they had remained to this day. (Hadēs g86)
Ja sinä, Kapernaum, korotetaankohan sinut hamaan taivaaseen? Hamaan tuonelaan on sinun astuttava alas. Sillä jos ne voimalliset teot, jotka ovat tapahtuneet sinussa, olisivat tapahtuneet Sodomassa, niin se seisoisi vielä tänäkin päivänä. (Hadēs g86)
24 But I say vnto you, that it shall be easier for them of the land of Sodom in the day of iudgement, then for thee.
Mutta minä sanon teille: Sodoman maan on tuomiopäivänä oleva helpompi kuin sinun."
25 At that time Iesus answered, and saide, I giue thee thankes, O Father, Lord of heauen and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and men of vnderstanding, and hast opened them vnto babes.
Siihen aikaan Jeesus johtui puhumaan sanoen: "Minä ylistän sinua, Isä, taivaan ja maan Herra, että olet salannut nämä viisailta ja ymmärtäväisiltä ja ilmoittanut ne lapsenmielisille.
26 It is so, O Father, because thy good pleasure was such.
Niin, Isä, sillä näin on sinulle hyväksi näkynyt.
27 All things are giuen vnto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Sonne, but ye Father: neither knoweth any man ye Father, but the Sonne, and he to whom ye Sonne will reueile him.
Kaikki on minun Isäni antanut minun haltuuni, eikä kukaan muu tunne Poikaa kuin Isä, eikä Isää tunne kukaan muu kuin Poika ja se, kenelle Poika tahtoo hänet ilmoittaa.
28 Come vnto me, all ye that are wearie and laden, and I will ease you.
Tulkaa minun tyköni, kaikki työtätekeväiset ja raskautetut, niin minä annan teille levon.
29 Take my yoke on you, and learne of me that I am meeke and lowly in heart: and ye shall finde rest vnto your soules.
Ottakaa minun ikeeni päällenne ja oppikaa minusta, sillä minä olen hiljainen ja nöyrä sydämeltä; niin te löydätte levon sielullenne.
30 For my yoke is easie, and my burden light.
Sillä minun ikeeni on sovelias, ja minun kuormani on keveä."
