Luke 7
1 When hee had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entred into Capernaum.
Lorsqu'il eut fini de faire entendre au peuple toutes ces siennes paroles, il entra à Capharnaoum.
2 And a certaine Ceturions seruant was sicke and readie to die, which was deare vnto him.
Or un certain centurion avait un esclave malade et sur le point de mourir, qui lui était très précieux.
3 And when he heard of Iesus, hee sent vnto him the Elders of the Iewes, beseeching him that he would come, and heale his seruant.
Mais ayant ouï parler de Jésus, il lui dépêcha des anciens des Juifs, en le suppliant de venir pour tirer d'affaire son esclave.
4 So they came to Iesus, and besought him instantly, saying that hee was worthy that hee should doe this for him:
Ceux-ci étant arrivés auprès de Jésus le sollicitaient avec instances en disant: « Il mérite que tu lui accordes cela;
5 For he loueth, said they, our nation, and he hath built vs a Synagogue.
car il aime notre nation, et c'est lui qui nous a bâti notre synagogue. »
6 Then Iesus went with them: but when he was now not farre from the house, the Centurion sent friendes to him, saying vnto him, Lord, trouble not thy selfe: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter vnder my roofe:
Or Jésus s'était mis en route avec eux, et il n'était plus qu'à peu de distance de la maison, lorsque le centurion envoya des amis pour lui dire: « Seigneur, ne te dérange pas; car je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit;
7 Wherefore I thought not my selfe worthy to come vnto thee: but say the word, and my seruant shalbe whole:
c'est pourquoi je ne me suis pas même permis d'aller moi-même à toi; mais dis un mot, et que mon serviteur soit guéri;
8 For I likewise am a man set vnder authoritie, and haue vnder mee souldiers, and I say vnto one, Goe, and he goeth: and to another, Come, and hee commeth: and to my seruant, Doe this, and he doeth it.
car moi aussi je suis un homme placé sous autorité, ayant des soldats sous mes ordres, et je dis à celui-ci: « Va, » et il va, et à un autre: « Viens, » et il vient, et à mon esclave: « Fais cela, » et il le fait. »
9 When Iesus heard these things, he marueiled at him, and turned him, and said to the people, that followed him, I say vnto you, I haue not found so great faith, no not in Israel.
Or en entendant cela Jésus fut émerveillé de lui, et s'étant tourné vers la foule qui le suivait, il dit: « Je vous déclare que même en Israël je n'ai pas trouvé une si grande foi. »
10 And when they that were sent, turned backe to the house, they founde the seruant that was sicke, whole.
Et ceux qui avaient été envoyés étant retournés à la maison trouvèrent l'esclave en bonne santé.
11 And it came to passe the day after, that he went into a citie called Nain, and many of his disciples went with him, and a great multitude.
Et il advint ensuite qu'il se rendit dans une ville appelée Naïn, et ses disciples et une foule nombreuse faisaient route avec lui.
12 Nowe when hee came neere to the gate of the citie, behold, there was a dead man caried out, who was the onely begotten sonne of his mother, which was a widowe, and much people of the citie was with her.
Mais quand il approcha de la porte de la ville, voici, on emportait un mort, fils unique de sa mère; et celle-ci était veuve, et une foule considérable de la ville était avec elle.
13 And when the Lord sawe her, he had compassion on her, and said vnto her, Weepe not.
Et le Seigneur l'ayant vue fut ému de compassion envers elle, et lui dit: « Ne pleure pas. »
14 And he went and touched the coffin (and they that bare him, stoode still) and he said, Yong man, I say vnto thee, Arise.
Et s'étant approché, il toucha le cercueil; or les porteurs s'arrêtèrent, et il dit: « Jeune homme, je te dis: lève-toi! »
15 And he that was dead, sate vp, and began to speake, and he deliuered him to his mother.
Et le mort s'assit, et commença à parler; et il le rendit à sa mère.
16 Then there came a feare on them all, and they glorified God, saying, A great Prophet is risen among vs, and God hath visited his people.
Mais tous furent saisis de crainte, et ils glorifiaient Dieu en disant: « Un grand prophète s'est élevé parmi nous, » et: « Dieu a visité Son peuple. »
17 And this rumour of him went foorth throughout all Iudea, and throughout all the region round about.
Et cette nouvelle répandit sa renommée dans toute la Judée, et dans tout le pays d'alentour.
18 And the disciples of Iohn shewed him of all these things.
Et Jean fut informé par ses disciples de tout cela;
19 So Iohn called vnto him two certaine men of his disciples, and sent them to Iesus, saying, Art thou hee that should come, or shall we waite for another?
et ayant appelé à lui deux de ses disciples, Jean les envoya auprès du Seigneur, pour lui dire: « Es-tu celui qui doit venir, ou bien devons-nous en attendre un autre? »
20 And when the men were come vnto him, they said, Iohn Baptist hath sent vs vnto thee, saying, Art thou hee that should come, or shall we waite for another?
Or quand ces hommes furent arrivés vers lui, ils dirent: « Jean le baptiste nous a dépêchés vers toi pour te dire: « Es-tu celui qui doit venir, ou bien devons-nous en attendre un autre? »
21 And at that time, he cured many of their sickenesses, and plagues, and of euill spirites, and vnto many blinde men he gaue sight freely.
En ce moment-là il guérit beaucoup de gens de maladies, de plaies, et d'esprits malins, et il rendit la vue à beaucoup d'aveugles;
22 And Iesus answered, and saide vnto them, Goe your wayes and shewe Iohn, what things ye haue seene and heard: that the blinde see, the halt goe, the lepers are cleansed, the deafe heare, the dead are raised, and the poore receiue the Gospel.
et il leur répliqua: « Allez rapporter à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: des aveugles recouvrent la vue, des boiteux marchent, des lépreux sont guéris et des sourds entendent, des morts ressuscitent, une bonne nouvelle est annoncée aux pauvres;
23 And blessed is hee, that shall not be offended in me.
et il est heureux celui qui n'aura pas trébuché à propos de moi. »
24 And when the messengers of Iohn were departed, hee began to speake vnto the people, of Iohn, What went ye out into the wildernes to see? A reede shaken with the winde?
Quand les messagers de Jean furent partis, il commença à dire à la foule au sujet de Jean: « Qu'êtes-vous allés contempler au désert? Un roseau agité par le vent?
25 But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft rayment? beholde, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and liue delicately, are in Kings courtes.
Mais qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un homme vêtu avec luxe? Voici, ceux qui portent des vêtements somptueux et qui vivent dans la mollesse habitent les palais.
26 But what went ye foorth to see? A Prophet? yea, I say to you, and greater then a Prophet.
Mais qu'est-ce que vous y êtes allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, je vous le déclare, et bien plus qu'un prophète;
27 This is he of whom it is written, Beholde, I sende my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
c'est celui dont il est écrit: Voici, J'envoie Mon messager devant toi, lequel frayera ton chemin devant toi.
28 For I say vnto you, there is no greater Prophet then Iohn, among them that are begotten of women: neuerthelesse, hee that is the least in the kingdome of God, is greater then he.
Je vous le déclare: parmi les enfants des femmes personne n'est plus grand que Jean; cependant le moindre dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui;
29 Then all the people that heard, and the Publicanes iustified God, being baptized with the baptisme of Iohn.
et après l'avoir entendu, tout le peuple et les publicains ont justifié Dieu en se faisant baptiser du baptême de Jean,
30 But the Pharises and the expounders of the Law despised the counsell of God against themselues, and were not baptized of him.
tandis que les pharisiens et les légistes ont anéanti le dessein de Dieu quant à eux-mêmes en ne se faisant pas baptiser par lui.
31 And the Lord saide, Whereunto shall I liken the men of this generation? and what thing are they like vnto?
A qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération et à qui ressemblent-ils?
32 They are like vnto litle children sitting in the market place, and crying one to another, and saying, We haue piped vnto you, and ye haue not daunced: we haue mourned to you, and ye haue not wept.
Ils ressemblent à de petits enfants assis dans une place publique et s'apostrophant les uns les autres, qui disent: « Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n'avez pas dansé; nous avons chanté des complaintes, et vous n'avez pas pleuré. »
33 For Iohn Baptist came, neither eating bread, nor drinking wine: and ye say, He hath the deuil.
En effet Jean le baptiste est venu, ne mangeant point de pain et ne buvant point de vin, et vous dites: « Il a un démon. »
34 The Sonne of man is come, and eateth and drinketh: and ye say, Beholde, a man which is a glutton, and a drinker of wine, a friend of Publicanes and sinners:
Le fils de l'homme est venu, qui mange et boit, et vous dites: « Voici un glouton et un ivrogne, un ami des publicains et des pécheurs. »
35 But wisdome is iustified of all her children.
Eh bien! la sagesse a été justifiée par tous ses enfants! »
36 And one of the Pharises desired him that hee would eate with him: and hee went into the Pharises house, and sate downe at table.
Or un des pharisiens l'invitait à manger avec lui, et étant entré dans la maison du pharisien, il se mit à table.
37 And beholde, a woman in the citie, which was a sinner, when she knewe that Iesus sate at table in the Pharises house, shee brought a boxe of oyntment.
Et voici, il y avait une femme qui menait dans la ville une mauvaise vie, et ayant appris qu'il était à table dans la maison du pharisien, elle apporta une fiole d'albâtre pleine de parfum,
38 And shee stoode at his feete behinde him weeping, and began to wash his feete with teares, and did wipe them with the heares of her head, and kissed his feete, and anoynted them with the oyntment.
et se tenant derrière lui et à ses pieds, tout en pleurs, elle se mit à mouiller ses pieds de ses larmes, et elle les essuyait avec les cheveux de sa tête, et elle baisait tendrement ses pieds, et elle les oignait de son parfum.
39 Nowe when the Pharise which bade him, saw it, he spake within himselfe, saying, If this man were a Prophet, hee woulde surely haue knowen who, and what maner of woman this is which toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
Mais le pharisien qui l'avait invité s'en étant aperçu, il se dit en lui-même: « Si celui-ci était le prophète, il saurait qui, et de quelle espèce, est la femme qui le touche, et que c'est une personne de mauvaise vie. »
40 And Iesus answered, and saide vnto him, Simon, I haue somewhat to say vnto thee. And he said, Master, say on.
Et Jésus s'adressant à lui, lui dit: « Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire. » Et l'autre reprit: « Maître, parle. »
41 There was a certaine lender which had two detters: the one ought fiue hundreth pence, and the other fiftie:
« Un certain créancier avait deux débiteurs: L'un lui devait cinq cents deniers, et l'autre cinquante;
42 When they had nothing to pay, he forgaue them both: Which of them therefore, tell mee, will loue him most?
comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi payer, il remit la dette à l'un et à l'autre. Lequel donc d'entre eux l'aimera davantage? »
43 Simon answered, and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgaue most. And he said vnto him, Thou hast truely iudged.
Simon répliqua: « Je pense que c'est celui auquel il a remis davantage. » Or il lui dit: « Tu as bien jugé. »
44 Then he turned to the woman, and said vnto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entred into thine house, and thou gauest mee no water to my feete: but she hath washed my feete with teares, and wiped them with the heares of her head.
Et s'étant tourné vers la femme, il dit à Simon: « Vois-tu cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison; tu n'as pas versé d'eau sur mes pieds, tandis que celle-ci a mouillé mes pieds de ses larmes et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux;
45 Thou gauest me no kisse: but she, since the time I came in, hath not ceased to kisse my feete.
tu ne m'as point donné de baiser, tandis que celle-ci depuis que je suis entré n'a pas cessé de me baiser tendrement les pieds;
46 Mine head with oyle thou didest not anoint: but she hath anoynted my feete with oyntment.
tu n'as pas oint ma tête d'huile, tandis que celle-ci a oint mes pieds de parfum.
47 Wherefore I say vnto thee, many sinnes are forgiuen her: for she loued much. To whom a litle is forgiuen, he doeth loue a litle.
C'est pourquoi je te le déclare, ses péchés qui étaient nombreux ont été pardonnés, car elle a beaucoup aimé, tandis que celui à qui on pardonne peu, aime peu aussi. »
48 And he saide vnto her, Thy sinnes are forgiuen thee.
Mais il lui dit à elle: « Tes péchés ont été pardonnés. »
49 And they that sate at table with him, began to say within themselues, Who is this that euen forgiueth sinnes?
Et les convives commencèrent à dire en eux-mêmes: « Qui est celui-ci qui même pardonne les péchés? »
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saued thee: goe in peace.
Mais il dit à la femme: « Ta foi t'a sauvée, va-t-en en paix. »
