Luke 23
1 Then the whole multitude of them arose, and led him vnto Pilate.
Puis toute l'assemblée, s'étant levée, le mena devant Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We haue found this man peruerting the nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Cesar, saying, That he is Christ a King.
Alors ils se mirent à l'accuser, en disant: Nous avons trouvé cet homme soulevant notre nation, défendant de payer le tribut à César, et se disant le Christ, le Roi.
3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Iewes? And hee answered him, and sayd, Thou sayest it.
Pilate lui demanda: C'est toi qui es le roi des Juifs? Jésus lui répondit: Tu le dis!
4 Then sayd Pilate to the hie Priests, and to the people, I finde no fault in this man.
Alors Pilate dit aux principaux sacrificateurs et au peuple: Je ne trouve rien de criminel en cet homme.
5 But they were the more fierce, saying, He moueth the people, teaching throughout all Iudea, beginning at Galile, euen to this place.
Mais ils insistaient plus fortement en disant: Il soulève le peuple, en enseignant dans toute la Judée; après avoir commencé par la Galilée, il est venu jusqu'ici.
6 Nowe when Pilate heard of Galile, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.
Lorsque Pilate entendit cela, il demanda si cet homme était Galiléen.
7 And when he knewe that he was of Herods iurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, which was also at Hierusalem in those dayes.
Apprenant que Jésus était de la juridiction d'Hérode, il le renvoya à Hérode, qui se trouvait aussi à Jérusalem en ces jours-là.
8 And when Herod sawe Iesus, hee was exceedingly glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him, and trusted to haue seene some signe done by him.
Quand Hérode vit Jésus, il eut une grande joie; car depuis longtemps il désirait le voir, à cause de ce qu'il avait entendu dire de lui, et il espérait qu'il lui verrait faire quelque miracle.
9 Then questioned hee with him of many things: but he answered him nothing.
Il lui adressa donc plusieurs questions; mais Jésus ne lui répondit rien.
10 The hie Priests also and Scribes stood forth, and accused him vehemently.
Et les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes étaient là, qui l'accusaient avec véhémence.
11 And Herod with his men of warre, despised him, and mocked him, and arayed him in white, and sent him againe to Pilate.
Alors Hérode, ainsi que les gens de sa garde, le traita avec mépris et se moqua de lui; puis, après l'avoir revêtu d'un manteau éclatant, il le renvoya à Pilate.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were enemies one to another.
Ce jour-là même, Pilate et Hérode devinrent amis, d'ennemis qu'ils étaient auparavant.
13 Then Pilate called together the hie Priests and the rulers, and the people,
Pilate, ayant réuni les principaux sacrificateurs, les magistrats et le peuple, leur dit:
14 And sayd vnto them, Ye haue brought this man vnto me, as one that peruerted the people: and beholde, I haue examined him before you, and haue found no fault in this man, of those things whereof ye accuse him:
Vous m'avez amené cet homme, l'accusant de soulever le peuple; et cependant, après l'avoir interrogé en votre présence, je ne l'ai trouvé coupable d'aucun des crimes dont vous l'accusez,
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him: and loe, nothing worthy of death is done of him.
ni Hérode non plus, puisqu'il nous l'a renvoyé: il n'a donc rien fait qui mérite la mort.
16 I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
Ainsi, après l'avoir fait châtier, je le relâcherai.
17 (For of necessitie hee must haue let one loose vnto them at the feast.)
[Or, à chaque fête, Pilate était obligé de leur relâcher un prisonnier].
18 Then all ye multitude cried at once, saying, Away with him, and deliuer vnto vs Barabbas:
Alors ils se mirent à crier tous ensemble: Fais mourir celui-ci, et relâche-nous Barabbas!
19 Which for a certaine insurrection made in the citie, and murder, was cast in prison.
Or, cet homme avait été mis en prison pour une sédition qui avait eu lieu dans la ville, et pour un meurtre.
20 Then Pilate spake againe to them, willing to let Iesus loose.
Pilate leur parla de nouveau, dans le dessein de délivrer Jésus.
21 But they cried, saying, Crucifie, crucifie him.
Mais ils crièrent; Crucifie-le! crucifie-le!
22 And he sayd vnto them the third time, But what euill hath he done? I finde no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
Il leur dit pour la troisième fois: Quel mal a-t-il donc fait? Je n'ai rien trouvé en lui qui mérite la mort. Ainsi, après l'avoir fait châtier, je le relâcherai.
23 But they were instant with loude voyces, and required that he might be crucified: and the voyces of them and of the hie Priests preuailed.
Mais ils insistaient, demandant à grands cris qu'il fût crucifié, et leurs clameurs l'emportèrent.
24 So Pilate gaue sentence, that it should be as they required.
Pilate prononça la sentence qui répondait à leur désir.
25 And he let loose vnto them him that for insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whome they desired, and deliuered Iesus to doe with him what they would.
Il relâcha donc celui qui avait été mis en prison pour sédition et pour meurtre, et qu'ils réclamaient; et il abandonna Jésus à leur volonté.
26 And as they led him away, they caught one Simon of Cyrene, comming out of the fielde, and on him they layde the crosse, to beare it after Iesus.
Comme ils l'emmenaient, ils prirent un homme de Cyrène, nommé Simon, qui revenait des champs; et ils le chargèrent de la croix, pour qu'il la portât derrière Jésus.
27 And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, which women bewailed and lamented him.
Le peuple, en grande multitude, suivait Jésus, ainsi que des femmes qui se frappaient la poitrine et qui pleuraient sur lui.
28 But Iesus turned backe vnto them, and said, Daughters of Hierusalem, weepe not for me, but weepe for your selues, and for your children.
Mais Jésus, se tournant vers elles, leur dit: Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur moi, mais pleurez sur vous-mêmes et sur vos enfants!
29 For behold, the dayes wil come, when men shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombes that neuer bare, and the pappes which neuer gaue sucke.
Car voici que les jours viennent où l'on dira: Heureuses les stériles, heureuses les entrailles qui n'ont pas enfanté, et les mamelles qui n'ont point allaité!
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountaines, Fall on vs: and to the hilles, Couer vs.
Alors les hommes se mettront à dire aux montagnes: Tombez sur nous!!- et aux coteaux: Couvrez-nous!
31 For if they doe these things to a greene tree, what shalbe done to the drie?
Car si l'on fait ces choses au bois vert, qu'arrivera-t-il au bois sec?
32 And there were two others, which were euill doers, led with him to be slaine.
On conduisait aussi deux autres hommes, des malfaiteurs, pour les faire mourir avec lui.
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Caluarie, there they crucified him, and the euill doers: one at the right hand, and the other at the left.
Quand ils furent arrivés au lieu appelé le lieu du Crâne, ils le crucifièrent là, ainsi que les malfaiteurs, l'un à sa droite, et l'autre à sa gauche.
34 Then sayd Iesus, Father, forgiue them: for they know not what they doe. And they parted his raiment, and cast lottes.
Mais Jésus disait: Père, pardonne-leur; car ils ne savent ce qu'ils font. Puis, ils se partagèrent ses vêtements, en les tirant au sort.
35 And the people stoode, and behelde: and the rulers mocked him with them, saying, He saued others: let him saue himselfe, if hee be that Christ, the Chosen of God.
Le peuple se tenait là et regardait. Et les chefs se moquaient, en disant: Il en a sauvé d'autres; qu'il se sauve lui-même, s'il est le Christ, l'élu de Dieu!
36 The souldiers also mocked him, and came and offered him vineger,
Les soldats aussi le tournaient en dérision. Ils s'approchaient et lui présentaient du vinaigre
37 And said, If thou be the King of the Iewes, saue thy selfe.
en disant: Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi toi-même!
38 And a superscription was also written ouer him, in Greeke letters, and in Latin, and in Hebrewe, THIS IS THAT KING OF THE JEWES.
Au-dessus de sa tête, il y avait cette inscription: Celui-ci est le roi des Juifs.
39 And one of the euill doers, which were hanged, railed on him, saying, If thou be that Christ, saue thy selfe and vs.
Or, l'un des malfaiteurs qui avaient été crucifiés, l'injuriait, en disant: N'es-tu pas le Christ? Sauve-toi toi-même, et nous avec toi!
40 But the other answered, and rebuked him, saying, Fearest thou not God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Mais l'autre, le reprenant, lui dit: Ne crains-tu pas Dieu, toi qui subis la même condamnation?
41 We are in deede righteously here: for we receiue things worthy of that we haue done: but this man hath done nothing amisse.
Pour nous, ce n'est que justice, car nous recevons ce que nos actions ont mérité; mais celui-ci n'a fait aucun mal.
42 And he sayd vnto Iesus, Lord, remember me, when thou commest into thy kingdome.
Puis il disait; Jésus, souviens-toi de moi, quand tu viendras dans ton règne!
43 Then Iesus said vnto him, Verely I say vnto thee, to day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.
Jésus lui répondit: En vérité, je te le déclare, aujourd'hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis.
44 And it was about the sixt houre: and there was a darkenes ouer all the land, vntill the ninth houre.
Il était déjà environ la sixième heure, et il y eut des ténèbres sur tout le pays jusqu'à la neuvième heure.
45 And the Sunne was darkened, and the vaile of the Temple rent through the middes.
Le soleil s'obscurcit, et le voile du temple se déchira par le milieu.
46 And Iesus cryed with a loude voyce, and sayd, Father, into thine hands I commend my spirit. And when hee thus had sayd, hee gaue vp the ghost.
Alors Jésus jeta un grand cri et dit: Père, je remets mon esprit entre tes mains! Et après avoir dit cela, il expira.
47 Nowe when the Centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Of a suretie this man was iust.
Le centenier, voyant ce qui était arrivé, donna gloire à Dieu et dit: Certainement cet homme était juste.
48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things, which were done, smote their brestes, and returned.
Et tout le peuple qui était accouru à ce spectacle, voyant ce qui s'était passé, s'en retournait en se frappant la poitrine.
49 And all his acquaintance stood a farre off, and the women that followed him from Galile, beholding these things.
Mais ceux qui connaissaient Jésus, ainsi que les femmes qui l'avaient suivi de la Galilée, se tenaient tous à distance et regardaient.
50 And beholde, there was a man named Ioseph, which was a counseller, a good man and a iust.
Il y avait un homme, appelé Joseph, qui était membre du Sanhédrin, homme droit et juste,
51 Hee did not consent to the counsell and deede of them, which was of Arimathea, a citie of the Iewes: who also himselfe waited for the kingdome of God.
qui n'avait pas consenti au dessein des autres, ni à ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il était d'Arimathée, ville de Judée, et il attendait le royaume de Dieu.
52 He went vnto Pilate, and asked the body of Iesus,
Il vint donc trouver Pilate et lui demanda le corps de Jésus.
53 And tooke it downe, and wrapped it in a linnen cloth, and laide it in a tombe hewen out of a rocke, wherein was neuer man yet laide.
Après l'avoir descendu de la croix, il l'enveloppa d'un linceul et le déposa dans un tombeau, taillé dans le roc, où personne n'avait encore été mis.
54 And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drewe on.
C'était le jour de la préparation, et le sabbat allait commencer.
55 And the women also that followed after, which came with him from Galile, behelde the sepulchre, and how his body was layd.
Les femmes qui étaient venues de la Galilée avec Jésus, ayant accompagné Joseph, virent le tombeau, et comment le corps de Jésus y avait été placé.
56 And they returned and prepared odours, and ointments, and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandement.
Puis s'en étant retournées, elles préparèrent des aromates et des parfums. Le jour du sabbat, elles se reposèrent, conformément à la loi.
