Judges 7
1 Then Ierubbaal (who is Gideon) rose vp early, and all the people that were with him, and pitched beside the well of Harod, so that the hoste of the Midianites was on the Northside of them in the valley by the hill of Moreh.
Jerubbaal, das ist Gideon, machte sich nun früh auf mit allem Volke bei ihm, und sie lagerten bei der Quelle Charod, Midians Lager aber war nördlich davon, von dem Hügel des Maulbeerbaumes bis in die Ebene.
2 And the Lord said vnto Gideon, The people that are with thee, are too many for me to giue the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel make their vaunt against me, and say, Mine hand hath saued mee.
Da sprach der Herr zu Gideon: "Zuviel ist des Volkes bei dir, als daß ich Midian in deine Hand gäbe. Sonst könnte sich Israel wider mich brüsten und sagen: 'Ich habe mir selbst geholfen.'
3 Now therefore proclaime in the audience of the people, and say, Who so is timerous or fearefull, let him returne, and depart earely from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people which were at mount Gilead, two and twentie thousand: so ten thousand remayned.
So ruf denn laut zum Volke: 'Wer bangt und bebt, kehre um und schleiche vom Gileadgebirge fort!' Da kehrten vom Volke zweiundzwanzigtausend um; nur zehntausend blieben zurück.
4 And the Lord said vnto Gideon, The people are yet too many: bring them downe vnto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and of whome I say vnto thee, This man shall goe with thee, the same shall go with thee: and of whomsoeuer I say vnto thee, This man shall not goe with thee, the same shall not go.
Da sprach der Herr zu Gideon: "Noch ist es des Volkes zuviel. Führe sie zum Wasser, daß ich sie dir dort sichte! Von wem ich dir sage: 'Er begleite dich!', der soll dich begleiten! Von wem ich aber zu dir sage: 'Er begleite dich nicht!', der darf nicht mitziehen."
5 So he brought downe the people vnto the water. And the Lord sayd vnto Gideon, As many as lap the water with their tongues, as a dog lappeth, them put by themselues, and euery one that shall bow downe his knees to drinke, put apart.
Da führte er das Volk ans Wasser, und der Herr sprach zu Gideon: "Wer mit der Zunge Wasser schlürft, wie die Hunde schlürfen, den stelle besonders! Ebenso jeden, der zum Trinken niederkniet!"
6 And the nomber of them that lapped by putting their handes to their mouthes, were three hundreth men: but all the remnant of the people kneeled downe vpon their knees to drinke water.
Da war die Zahl derer, die das Wasser mit dem Munde aus der Hand schlürften, dreihundert. Der ganze Rest des Volkes aber war zum Wassertrinken hingekniet.
7 Then the Lord sayde vnto Gideon, By these three hundreth men that lapped, will I saue you, and deliuer the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go euery man vnto his place.
Da sprach der Herr zu Gideon: "Mit den dreihundert Mann, die Wasser schlürften, rette ich euch und gebe Midian in deine Hand. All das andere Volk soll heimgehen, jeglicher an seinen Ort!"
8 So the people tooke vitailes with them, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel, euery man vnto his tent, and reteined the three hundreth men: and the hoste of Midian was beneath him in a valley.
Da bekamen sie des Volkes Vorrat in ihre Hand und seine Hörner. Dann entließ er alle Israeliten, jeden in seine Heimat; nur die dreihundert Mann hatte er behalten. Midians Lager aber war unter ihm in der Ebene.
9 And the same night the Lord sayde vnto him, Arise, get thee downe vnto the hoste: for I haue deliuered it into thine hand.
In jener Nacht sprach der Herr zu ihm: "Auf! Steige hinab ins Lager! Ich gebe es in deine Hand.
10 But if thou feare to go downe, then go thou, and Phurah thy seruant downe to the hoste,
Hast du aber Angst hinabzusteigen, so steige mit deinem Diener Pura zum Lager hinab!
11 And thou shalt hearken what they say, and so shall thine handes be strong to go downe vnto the hoste. Then went he downe and Phurah his seruant vnto the outside of the souldiers that were in the hoste.
Belausche, was sie darin sprechen! Dann werden deine Hände stark, und du wirst das Lager angreifen." Da stieg er mit seinem Diener Pura hinab bis ganz nahe an die Gewappneten im Lager.
12 And the Midianites, and the Amalekites and all they of the East, lay in the valley like grashoppers in multitude, and their camels were without nomber, as the sande which is by the sea side for multitude.
Midian aber, wie sonst Amalek und alle Söhne des Ostens, lag in der Ebene wie Heuschrecken an Masse, und ihre Kamele waren zahllos wie die Sandmenge am Meeresufer.
13 And when Gideon was come, beholde, a man tolde a dreame vnto his neighbour, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dreame, and lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled from aboue into the hoste of Midian, and came vnto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and ouerturned it, that the tent fell downe.
Und Gideon kam. Da erzählte eben ein Mann dem anderen einen Traum und sprach: "Ich habe geträumt: Ein Stück Gerstenbrot rollte in Midians Lager, kam bis zum Zelt, traf es, daß es fiel, und drehte es nach oben, als das Zelt umfiel."
14 And his fellow answered, and sayde, This is nothing els saue the sworde of Gideon the sonne of Ioash a man of Israel: for into his hande hath God deliuered Midian and all the hoste.
Da antwortete der andere und sprach: "Das ist nichts anderes, als des Joassohnes Gideon Schwert. Gott gibt einem Israeliten Midian mit dem ganzen Lager in seine Hand."
15 When Gideon heard the dreame tolde, and the interpretation of the same, he worshipped, and returned vnto the hoste of Israel, and said, Vp: for the Lord hath deliuered into your hande the hoste of Midian.
Als aber Gideon die Erzählung und die Auslegung des Traumes hörte, warf er sich anbetend nieder; dann kehrte er in Israels Lager zurück und sprach: "Auf! Der Herr gibt Midians Lager in eure Hand."
16 And hee deuided the three hundreth men into three bandes, and gaue euery man a trumpet in his hande with emptie pitchers, and lampes within the pitchers.
Darauf teilte er die dreihundert Mann in drei Heerhaufen und gab allen Hörner und leere Krüge in die Hand. In den Krügen aber waren Fackeln.
17 And he sayd vnto them, Looke on me, and do likewise, when I come to the side of the hoste: euen as I do, so do you.
Dann sprach er zu ihnen: "Seht auf mich und tut ebenso! Komme ich bis zum Rande des Lagers, dann tut das gleiche, was ich tue!
18 When I blowe with a trumpet and all that are with me, blowe ye with trumpets also on euery side of the hoste, and say, For the Lord, and for Gideon.
Stoße ich in das Horn und alle bei mir, dann stoßt auch ihr in die Hörner um das Lager und ruft: 'Für den Herrn und Gideon!'"
19 So Gideon and the hundreth men that were with him, came vnto the outside of the hoste, in the beginning of the middle watche, and they raised vp the watchmen, and they blew with their trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their handes.
So kam Gideon mit den hundert Mann, die bei ihm waren, bis zum Lagerrand bei Beginn der mittleren Nachtwache. Eben hatten sie die Wachen ausgestellt. Da stießen sie in die Hörner und zerschlugen die Krüge in ihrer Hand.
20 And the three companies blew with trumpets and brake the pitchers, and helde the lampes in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right. handes to blowe withall: and they cryed, The sword of the Lord and of Gideon.
So stießen die drei Heerhaufen in die Hörner, zerbrachen die Krüge, nahmen die Fackeln in die linke und die Hörner zum Blasen in die rechte Hand und riefen durchdringend: "Für den Herrn und Gideon!"
21 And they stoode, euery man in his place round about the hoste: and all the hoste ranne, and cryed, and fled.
Dabei blieb jeder auf seinem Platze rings um das Lager. Im Lager aber rannte alles hin und her. Sie lärmten und flohen.
22 And the three hundreth blewe with trumpets, and the Lord set euery mans sworde vpon his neighbour, and vpon all the hoste: so the hoste fled to Beth-hashittah in Zererah, and to the border of Abel-meholah, vnto Tabbath.
Jene aber stießen in die dreihundert Hörner, und der Herr wandte des einen Schwert gegen den anderen. Was im Lager war, floh bis nach Bet Sitta gegen Zereda hin, bis an das Ufer von Abel Mechola bei Tabbat.
23 Then the men of Israel being gathered together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, pursued after the Midianites.
Da ward Israels Mannschaft aus Naphtali, Asser und ganz Manasse aufgeboten, und sie verfolgten Midian.
24 And Gideon sent messengers vnto all mount Ephraim, saying, Come downe against the Midianites, and take before them the waters vnto Beth-barah, and Iorden. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered together and tooke the waters vnto Beth-barah, and Iorden.
Auch sandte Gideon Boten auf das ganze Gebirge Ephraim und ließ sagen: "Zieht hinab Midian entgegen und besetzt ihre Wasserstellen bis Bet Bara und bis an den Jordan!" Da ward Ephraims gesamte Mannschaft aufgeboten, und sie besetzten die Wasserstellen bis Bet Bara und an den Jordan.
25 And they tooke two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb, and slew Oreb vpon the rocke Oreb, and slewe Zeeb at the winepresse of Zeeb, and pursued the Midianites, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyonde Iorden.
Und sie fingen zwei Midianiterfürsten, Oreb und Zeeb. Den Oreb erschlugen sie am Rabenfelsen und den Zeeb bei der Wolfskelter. Dann jagten sie weiter Midian nach. Orebs und Zeebs Köpfe aber brachten sie zu Gideon über den Jordan.
