Judges 16
1 Then went Samson to Azzah, and sawe there an harlot, and went in vnto her.
Or Samson s'en alla à Gaza, et vit là une femme paillarde, et alla vers elle.
2 And it was tolde to the Azzahites, Samson is come hither. And they went about, and laied wayte for him all night in the gate of the citie, and were quiet all the nyght, saying, Abide till the morning earely, and we shall kill him.
Et on dit à ceux de Gaza: Samson est venu ici; ils l'environnèrent, et lui dressèrent une embuscade toute la nuit à la porte de la ville, et ils se tinrent tranquilles toute la nuit, en disant: [Qu'on ne bouge point] jusqu'au point du jour, et nous le tuerons.
3 And Samson slept till midnight, and arose at midnight, and tooke the doores of the gates of the citie, and the two postes and lift them away with the barres, and put them vpon his shoulders, and caried them vp to the top of the mountaine that is before Hebron.
Mais Samson après avoir dormi jusqu'à la minuit, se leva, et se saisit des portes de la ville, et des deux poteaux, et les ayant enlevés avec la barre, il les mit sur ses épaules, et les porta sur le sommet de la montagne qui est vis-à-vis de Hébron.
4 And after this hee loued a woman by the riuer of Sorek, whose name was Delilah:
Après cela il aima une femme [qui se tenait] près du torrent de Sorek, le nom de laquelle était Délila.
5 Vnto whome came the princes of the Philistims, and said vnto her, Entise him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what meane we may ouercome him, that we may binde him, and punish him, and euery one of vs shall giue thee eleuen hundreth shekels of siluer.
Et les Gouverneurs des Philistins montèrent vers elle, et lui dirent: Persuade-le jusqu'à ce que tu saches de lui en quoi consiste sa grande force, et comment nous le surmonterions, afin que nous le liions pour l'abattre; et nous te donnerons chacun onze cents [pièces] d'argent.
6 And Delilah saide to Samson, Tell mee, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest bee bound, to doe thee hurt.
Délila donc dit à Samson: Déclare-moi, je te prie, en quoi consiste ta grande force, et avec quoi tu serais bien lié, pour t'abattre.
7 Samson then answered vnto her, If they binde mee with seuen greene cordes, that were neuer dryed, then shall I bee weake, and be as an other man.
Et Samson lui répondit: Si on me liait de sept cordes fraîches, qui ne fussent point encore sèches, je deviendrais sans force, et je serais comme un autre homme.
8 And the princes of the Philistims brought her seuen greene cordes that were not dry, and she bound him therewith.
Les Gouverneurs donc des Philistins lui envoyèrent sept cordes fraîches qui n'étaient point encore sèches, et elle l'en lia.
9 (And she had men lying in wayte with her in the chamber) Then she said vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson. And hee brake the cordes, as a threede of towe is broken, when it feeleth fire: so his strength was not knowen.
Or il y avait chez elle dans une chambre des gens qui étaient en embûches, et elle lui dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Alors il rompit les cordes, comme se romprait un filet d'étoupes dès qu'il sent le feu, et sa force ne fut point connue.
10 After Delilah saide vnto Samson, See, thou hast mocked mee and tolde mee lies. I pray thee nowe, tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound.
Puis Délila dit à Samson: Voici tu t'es moqué de moi, car tu m'as dit des mensonges; je te prie, déclare-moi maintenant avec quoi tu pourrais être bien lié.
11 Then he answered her, If they binde mee with newe ropes that neuer were occupied, then shall I be weake, and be as an other man.
Et il lui répondit: Si on me liait serré de courroies neuves, dont on ne se serait jamais servi, je deviendrais sans force, et je serais comme un autre homme.
12 Delilah therefore tooke newe ropes, and bounde him therewith, and saide vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson: (and men lay in wayte in the chamber) and hee brake them from his armes, as a threede.
Délila donc prit des courroies neuves, et elle l'en lia; puis elle lui dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Or il y avait des gens en embûches dans la chambre: et il rompit les courroies de dessus ses bras comme un filet.
13 Afterward Delilah said to Samson, Hitherto thou hast beguiled mee, and tolde me lies: tell me how thou mightest be bounde. And he sayde vnto her, If thou plattedst seuen lockes of mine head with the threedes of the woufe.
Puis Délila dit à Samson: Tu t'es moqué de moi jusqu'ici, et tu m'as dit des mensonges; déclare-moi avec quoi tu serais bien lié. Et il dit: [Ce serait] si tu avais tissu sept tresses de ma tête autour d'une ensuble.
14 And she fastened it with a pinne, and saide vnto him, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleepe, and went away with the pinne of the webbe and the woufe.
Et elle les mit [dans l'ensuble] avec l'attache, puis elle dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Alors il se réveilla de son sommeil, et enleva l'attache de la tissure avec l'ensuble.
15 Againe shee sayde vnto him, Howe canst thou say, I loue thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked mee these three times, and hast not tolde me wherein thy great strength lieth.
Alors elle lui dit: Comment dis-tu: Je t'aime, puisque ton cœur n'est point avec moi? Tu t'es moqué de moi trois fois, et tu ne m'as point déclaré en quoi consiste ta grande force.
16 And because shee was importunate vpon him with her wordes continually, and vexed him, his soule was pained vnto the death.
Et elle le tourmentait tous les jours par ses paroles, et le pressait vivement, tellement que son âme en fut affligée jusqu'à la mort.
17 Therefore he tolde her all his heart, and said vnto her, There neuer came rasor vpon mine head: for I am a Nazarite vnto God from my mothers wombe: therefore if I bee shauen, my strength will goe from me, and I shalbe weake, and be like all other men.
Alors il lui ouvrit tout son cœur, et lui dit: Le rasoir n'a jamais passé sur ma tête; car je suis Nazarien de Dieu dès le ventre de ma mère; si je suis rasé, ma force m'abandonnera, je me trouverai sans force, et je serai comme tous les [autres] hommes.
18 And when Delilah sawe that he had tolde her all his heart, she sent, and called for the Princes of ye Philistims, saying, Come vp once againe: for he hath shewed mee all his heart. Then the Princes of the Philistims came vp vnto her, and brought the money in their handes.
Délila donc voyant qu'il lui avait ouvert tout son cœur, envoya appeler les Gouverneurs des Philistins, et leur dit: Montez à cette fois; car il m'a ouvert tout son cœur. Les Gouverneurs donc des Philistins montèrent vers elle, portant l'argent en leurs mains.
19 And she made him sleepe vpon her knees, and she called a man, and made him to shaue off the seuen lockes of his head, and shee began to vexe him, and his strength was gone from him.
Et elle l'endormit sur ses genoux, et ayant appelé un homme, elle lui fit raser sept tresses des cheveux de sa tête, et commença à l'abattre, et sa force l'abandonna.
20 Then she said, The Philistims be vpon thee, Samson. And hee awoke out of his sleepe, and thought, I will go out now as at other times, and shake my selfe, but he knewe not that the Lord was departed from him.
Alors elle dit: Les Philistins sont sur toi, Samson. Et il s'éveilla de son sommeil, disant [en lui-même]: J'en sortirai comme les autres fois, et je me tirerai [de leurs mains]; mais il ne savait pas que l'Eternel s'était retiré de lui.
21 Therefore the Philistims tooke him, and put out his eyes, and brought him downe to Azzah, and bounde him with fetters: and hee did grinde in the prison house.
Les Philistins donc le saisirent, et lui crevèrent les yeux, et le menèrent à Gaza, et le lièrent de deux chaînes d'airain; et il tournait la meule dans la prison.
22 And the heare of his head began to growe againe after that it was shauen.
Et les cheveux de sa tête commencèrent à revenir comme ils étaient lorsqu'il fut rasé.
23 Then the Princes of the Philistims gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice vnto Dagon their god, and to reioyce: for they said, Our god hath deliuered Samson our enemie into our handes.
Or les Gouverneurs des Philistins s'assemblèrent pour offrir un grand sacrifice à Dagon leur dieu, et pour se réjouir, et ils dirent: Notre dieu a livré en nos mains Samson notre ennemi.
24 Also when the people saw him, they praysed their god: for they sayde, Our god hath deliuered into our hands our enemie and destroyer of our countrey, which hath slayne many of vs.
Le peuple aussi l'ayant vu, loua son dieu, en disant: Notre dieu a livré entre nos mains notre ennemi, et le destructeur de notre pays, et celui qui en a tant tué d'entre nous.
25 And when their heartes were merie, they said, Call Samson, that he may make vs pastime. So they called Samson out of the prison house, and he was a laughing stocke vnto them, and they set him betweene the pillars.
Or comme ils avaient le cœur joyeux, ils dirent: Faites venir Samson, afin qu'il nous fasse rire. Ils appelèrent donc Samson, et ils le tirèrent de la prison; il se jouait devant eux; et ils le firent tenir entre les piliers.
26 Then Samson saide vnto the seruant that led him by the hande, Lead me, that I may touch the pillars that the house standeth vpon, and that I may leane to them.
Alors Samson dit au garçon qui le tenait par la main: Mets-moi en une telle place que je puisse toucher les piliers sur lesquels la maison est appuyée, afin que je m'y appuie.
27 (Nowe the house was full of men and women, and there were all the princes of the Philistims: also vpon the roofe were about three thousande men and women that behelde while Samson played)
Or la maison était pleine d'hommes et de femmes, et tous les Gouverneurs des Philistins y étaient. Il y avait même sur le toit près de trois mille personnes tant d'hommes, que de femmes, qui regardaient Samson se jouer.
28 Then Samson called vnto the Lord, and sayde, O Lord God, I pray thee, thinke vpon me: O God, I beseech thee, strengthen me at this time onely, that I may be at once auenged of the Philistims for my two eyes.
Alors Samson invoqua l'Eternel, et dit: Seigneur Eternel, je te prie, souviens-toi de moi; ô Dieu! je te prie, fortifie-moi seulement cette fois, et que pour un coup je me venge des Philistins pour mes deux yeux.
29 And Samson layd hold on the two middle pillars whereupon the house stood, and on which it was borne vp: on the one with his right hand, and on the other with his left.
Samson donc embrassa les deux piliers du milieu, sur lesquels la maison était appuyée, et se tint à eux, l'un desquels était à sa main droite, et l'autre à sa gauche.
30 Then Samson saide, Let me lose my life with the Philistims: and he bowed him with all his might, and the house fell vpon the princes, and vpon all the people that were therein. so the dead which he slewe at his death were more then they which he had slaine in his life.
Et il dit: Que je meure avec les Philistins. Il s'étendit donc de toute sa force; et la maison tomba sur les Gouverneurs et sur tout le peuple qui y était. Et il fit mourir beaucoup plus de gens en sa mort, qu'il n'en avait fait mourir en sa vie.
31 Then his brethren, and all the house of his father came downe and tooke him, and brought him vp and buryed him betweene Zorah and Eshtaol, in the sepulchre of Manoah his father: nowe he had iudged Israel twenty yeeres.
Ensuite ses frères, et toute la maison de son père, descendirent, et l'emportèrent; et étant remontés ils l'ensevelirent entre Tsorah et Estaol, dans le sépulcre de Manoah son père. Or il jugea Israël vingt ans.
