Judges 14
1 Nowe Samson went downe to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims,
Samson descendit à Thimna, et distingua à Thimna une femme entre les filles des Philistins.
2 And he came vp and told his father and his mother and saide, I haue seene a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims: now therfore giue me her to wife.
Et à son retour il s'en ouvrit à son père et à sa mère et dit: A Thimna j'ai distingué une femme outre les filles des Philistins, maintenant demandez-la en mariage pour moi.
3 Then his father and his mother sayde vnto him, Is there neuer a wife among the daughters of thy brethren, and among all my people, that thou must go to take a wife of the vncircumcised Philistims? And Samson sayd vnto his father, Giue mee her, for she pleaseth me well.
Et son père et sa mère lui dirent: N'y a-t-il pas de femme parmi les filles de tes frères et dans tout notre peuple, que tu vas prendre une femme chez les Philistins incirconcis? Et Samson dit à son père: Demande celle-là pour moi, car elle me plaît.
4 But his father and his mother knewe not that it came of the Lord, that he should seeke an occasion against the Philistims: for at that time the Philistims reigned ouer Israel.
Or son père et sa mère ignoraient que cela procédait de l'Éternel, car il cherchait une occasion fournie par les Philistins. Or à cette époque les Philistins avaient la domination sur Israël.
5 Then went Samson and his father and his mother downe to Timnath, and came to ye vineyardes at Timnath: and beholde, a young Lyon roared vpon him.
Samson descendit donc avec son père et sa mère à Thimna. Et lorsqu'ils arrivèrent au vignoble de Thimna, voilà qu'un jeune lion rugissant vint à sa rencontre.
6 And the Spirit of the Lord came vpon him, and he tare him, as one should haue rent a kid, and had nothing in his hand, neither told he his father nor his mother what he had done.
Alors l'esprit de l'Éternel s'empara de lui; il déchira le lion comme on déchire un chevreau, et il n'avait rien à la main. Et il ne raconta point à son père et à sa mère ce qu'il avait fait.
7 And he went down, and talked with the woman which was beautifull in the eyes of Samson.
Et il descendit et parla à la femme, et elle plaisait à Samson.
8 And within a fewe dayes, when he returned to receiue her, he went aside to see the karkeis of the Lion: and behold, there was a swarme of bees, and hony in the body of the Lyon.
Et comme il revenait quelque temps après pour l'épouser, il fit un détour pour voir le squelette du lion; et voilà que dans la carcasse du lion il y avait un essaim d'abeilles,
9 And he tooke therof in his handes, and went eating, and came to his father and to his mother, and gaue vnto them, and they did eate: but hee told not them, that he had taken the hony out of the body of the lyon.
et du miel qu'il emporta dans ses mains et dont il mangea en cheminant. Et étant arrivé chez son père et sa mère il leur en donna, et ils en mangèrent. Et il ne leur découvrit pas qu'il avait tiré le miel de la carcasse du lion.
10 So his father went down vnto the woman, and Samson made there a feast: for so vsed the yong men to doe.
Et son père descendit auprès de la femme; et Samson donna là un festin, car ainsi le pratiquent les jeunes gens.
11 And when they sawe him, they brought thirtie companions to be with him.
Et lorsqu'ils le virent, ils prirent trente compagnons pour être avec lui.
12 Then Samson sayd vnto them, I will nowe put forth a riddle vnto you: and if you can declare it me within seuen dayes of the feast, and finde it out, I will giue you thirty sheetes, and thirtie change of garments.
Et Samson leur dit: Je veux vous proposer une énigme. Si vous m'en dites le mot pendant les sept jours du festin, et si vous le trouvez, je vous donnerai trente tuniques et trente habits de rechange.
13 But if you cannot declare it mee, then shall yee giue mee thirty sheetes and thirtie change of garments. And they answered him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may heare it.
Mais si vous ne pouvez m'en dire le mot, ce sera à vous de me donner trente tuniques et trente habits de rechange. Et ils lui dirent: Propose ton énigme pour que nous l'écoutions.
14 And he sayd vnto them, Out of the eater came meate, and out of the strong came sweetenesse: and they could not in three dayes expound the riddle.
Et il leur dit: De celui qui mange est venu ce qui se mange, et du fort est venu le doux. Et pendant trois jours ils ne purent dirent le mot de l'énigme.
15 And when the seuenth day was come, they said vnto Samsons wife, Entise thine husband, that he may declare vs the riddle, lest wee burne thee and thy fathers house with fire. Haue ye called vs, to possesse vs? is it not so?
Et le septième jour ils s'adressèrent à la femme de Samson: Persuade à ton mari de nous dire le mot de l'énigme, si tu ne veux pas que nous te brûlions toi et la maison de ton père dans les flammes. C'est pour nous dépouiller que vous nous avez invités! n'est-ce pas?
16 And Samsons wife wept before him, and said, Surely thou hatest mee and louest mee not: for thou hast put forth a riddle vnto the children of my people, and hast not told it mee. And hee sayd vnto her, Beholde, I haue not told it my father, nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
Et la femme de Samson pleurait à ses côtés et lui disait: Tu n'as pour moi que de la haine et tu ne m'aimes pas. Tu as proposé une énigme aux fils de mon peuple et tu ne m'en as pas fait connaître le mot. Et il lui répondit: Je ne l'ai pas dit à mon père et à ma mère, puis-je te le dire?
17 Then Samsons wife wept before him seuen dayes, while their feast lasted: and when the seuenth day came he tolde her, because she was importunate vpon him: so she told the riddle to the children of her people.
Et elle pleura à ses côtés pendant les sept jours où ils eurent le festin. Et le septième jour il lui dit le mot, car elle le molestait. Et elle dit le mot de l'énigme aux fils de son peuple.
18 And the men of ye citie sayde vnto him the seuenth day before the Sunne went downe, What is sweeter then honie? and what is stronger then a lyon? Then sayd hee vnto them, If yee had not plowed with my heiffer, yee had not found out my riddle.
Et le septième jour les gens de la ville lui dirent avant le coucher du soleil: Quoi de plus doux que le miel et de plus fort que le lion! Et il leur dit: Si vous n'eussiez labouré avec ma génisse, vous n'eussiez pas trouvé le mot de mon énigme.
19 And the Spirite of the Lord came vpon him, and he went downe to Ashkelon, and slew thirtie men of them and spoyled them, and gaue chaunge of garments vnto them, which expounded the riddle: and his wrath was kindled, and he went vp to his fathers house.
Alors l'esprit de l'Éternel s'empara de lui, et il descendit à Ascalon, et il en tua trente hommes auxquels il prit leurs habits de rechange et il donna ces habits de rechange à ceux qui avaient dit le mot de l'énigme. Et il était enflammé de colère et il regagna la maison de son père.
20 Then Samsons wife was giuen to his companion, whom he had vsed as his friend.
Et sa femme appartint à l'ami qu'il s'était donné.
