Judges 11
1 Then Gilead begate Iphtah, and Iphtah the Gileadite was a valiant man, but the sonne of an harlot.
கீலேயாத்தியனான யெப்தா வலிமைமிக்க ஒரு வீரனாயிருந்தான். அவனுடைய தகப்பன் கீலேயாத். ஆனால் தாயோ ஒரு வேசிப்பெண்.
2 And Gileads wife bare him sonnes, and when the womans children were come to age, they thrust out Iphtah, and sayd vnto him, Thou shalt not inherite in our fathers house: for thou art the sonne of a strange woman.
கீலேயாத்தின் மனைவியும் கீலேயாத்திற்கு மகன்களைப் பெற்றாள். அவர்கள் வளர்ந்து பெரியவர்களானபோது யெப்தாவை நோக்கி, “நீ வேறொரு பெண்ணிற்கு பிறந்த மகனாகையால், எங்கள் குடும்ப உரிமைச்சொத்தில் நீ எதையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளப் போவதில்லை” என்று கூறி அவனைத் துரத்திவிட்டார்கள்.
3 Then Iphtah fledde from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there gathered idle fellowes to Iphtah, and went out with him.
எனவே யெப்தா தன் சகோதரர்களை விட்டு ஓடிப்போய் தோப் என்னும் நாட்டில் குடியிருந்தான். அப்போது அங்கேயிருந்த முரடர்கள் அவனோடு ஒன்றுசேர்ந்து அவனைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.
4 And in processe of time the children of Ammon made warre with Israel.
சில காலத்தின்பின் அம்மோனியர் இஸ்ரயேலரோடு யுத்தம் செய்ய வந்தார்கள்.
5 And when the children of Ammon fought with Israel, the Elders of Gilead went to fet Iphtah out of the land of Tob.
அப்போது கீலேயாத்தின் முதியவர்கள் யெப்தாவை அழைத்துவர தோப் நாட்டிற்குச் சென்றார்கள்.
6 And they saide vnto Iphtah, Come and be our captaine, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
அவர்கள் யெப்தாவிடம், “அம்மோனியருக்கு எதிராக சண்டையிடுவதற்கு நீ எங்களுக்குப் படைத்தளபதியாக இரு” என்றார்கள்.
7 Iphtah then answered the Elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expell me out of my fathers house? how then come you vnto me now in time of your tribulation?
அப்பொழுது யெப்தா அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் என்னை வெறுத்து என் தகப்பன் வீட்டிலிருந்து துரத்திவிடவில்லையோ? உங்களுக்குக் கஷ்டம் ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் போது ஏன் என்னைத் தேடிவந்திருக்கிறீர்கள்” என்றான்.
8 Then the Elders of Gilead saide vnto Iphtah, Therefore we turne againe to thee now, that thou mayest goe with vs, and fight against the children of Ammon, and bee our head ouer all the inhabitants of Gilead.
அதற்குக் கீலேயாத்தின் முதியவர்கள் யெப்தாவிடம், “எப்படியாயினும் நாங்கள் இப்பொழுது உன் பக்கம் வருகிறோம். அம்மோனியருடன் சண்டையிடும்படி நீ எங்களோடு வா. அப்போது கீலேயாத்தில் இருக்கும் எல்லோருக்கும் நீ தலைவனாயிருப்பாய்” என்று சொன்னார்கள்.
9 And Iphtah said vnto the Elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home againe to fight against the children of Ammon, if the Lord giue them before me, shall I be your head?
அதற்கு யெப்தா, “நான் உங்களுடன் வந்து அம்மோனியருடன் சண்டையிடும் போது, யெகோவா அவர்களை என் கையில் ஒப்படைத்தால் உண்மையாகவே நான் உங்கள் தலைவனாயிருப்பேனோ?” என்று கேட்டான்.
10 And the Elders of Gilead saide to Iphtah, The Lord be witnesse betweene vs, if we doe not according to thy wordes.
அப்பொழுது கீலேயாத்தின் முதியவர்கள் யெப்தாவிடம், “யெகோவாவே எங்கள் சாட்சி. நீ சொல்வதை நிச்சயமாகச் செய்வோம்” என்று பதிலளித்தனர்.
11 Then Iphtah went with the Elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captaine ouer them: and Iphtah rehearsed all his wordes before the Lord in Mizpeh.
அப்பொழுது யெப்தா கீலேயாத்தின் முதியவர்களுடன் சென்றான். அவனை மக்கள் தங்கள் தலைவனாகவும், தளபதியாகவும் நியமித்தனர். மிஸ்பாவில் யெகோவா முன்னிலையில், யெப்தா திரும்பவும் தன் நிபந்தனைகளையெல்லாம் எடுத்துச்சொன்னான்.
12 Then Iphtah sent messengers vnto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to doe with me, that thou art come against me, to fight in my lande?
பின்பு யெப்தா அம்மோனிய அரசனிடம் தூதுவர்களை அனுப்பி, “எங்கள் நாட்டை நீங்கள் தாக்கியிருப்பதற்கு எங்களுடன் உங்களுக்கிருக்கும் விரோதம் என்ன?” என்று கேட்டுவரும்படி சொன்னான்.
13 And the King of the children of Ammon answered vnto the messengers of Iphtah, Because Israel tooke my lande, when they came vp from Egypt, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and vnto Iorden: now therefore restore those lands quietly.
அம்மோனியரின் அரசன் யெப்தாவின் தூதுவர்களிடம், “இஸ்ரயேலர் எகிப்தில் இருந்து வெளியேறி வந்தபோது, அவர்கள் யோர்தான் வரைக்கும் அர்னோன் ஆறுதொடங்கி, யாப்போக் ஆறுவரையும் உள்ள எனது நாட்டை பிடித்துக்கொண்டார்கள். இப்போது அதைத் திரும்பவும் சமாதானமாக தந்துவிடுங்கள்” என்று கேட்டான்.
14 Yet Iphtah sent messengers againe vnto the King of the children of Ammon,
யெப்தா தூதுவர்களை அம்மோன் அரசனிடம் திரும்பவும் அனுப்பி அவனிடம் சொல்லச் சொன்னதாவது,
15 And said vnto him, Thus saith Iphtah, Israel tooke not the lande of Moab, nor the lande of the children of Ammon.
யெப்தா சொல்லுவது இதுவே: “இஸ்ரயேலர் மோவாபின் நாட்டையோ, அம்மோனியரின் நாட்டையோ பிடித்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை.”
16 But when Israel came vp from Egypt, and walked through the wildernesse vnto the redde Sea, then they came to Kadesh.
ஆனால் அவர்கள் எகிப்தைவிட்டு வெளியே வந்தபோது, இஸ்ரயேலர் பாலைவனத்தின் வழியாகச் செங்கடல்வரை சென்று காதேசுக்கு வந்தார்கள்.
17 And Israel sent messengers vnto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, goe thorowe thy lande: but the King of Edom woulde not consent: and also they sent vnto the King of Moab, but he would not: therefore Israel abode in Kadesh.
அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலர் ஏதோமின் அரசனுக்குத் தூதுவரை அனுப்பி, “உமது நாட்டின் வழியாகச் செல்ல எங்களுக்கு அனுமதியளியும்” என்று கேட்டார்கள். ஆனால் ஏதோமின் அரசன் அதைக் கேட்கவில்லை. அவ்வாறே அவர்கள் மோவாப்பின் அரசனுக்கும் தூதுவர்களை அனுப்பினார்கள். அவனும் மறுத்துவிட்டான். எனவேதான் இஸ்ரயேலர் காதேசில் தங்கினார்கள்.
18 Then they went through the wildernesse, and compassed the lande of Edom, and the lande of Moab, and came by the Eastside of the lande of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, and came not within the coast of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
“பின்பு அவர்கள் பாலைவனத்தின் வழியாக, ஏதோம், மோவாப் நாட்டைச் சுற்றி சென்று மோவாப் நாட்டின் கிழக்குப்பகுதிக்கு வழியாகப்போய், அர்னோன் ஆற்றுக்கு மற்றப் பகுதியில் முகாமிட்டார்கள். மோவாப்பின் ஆட்சிப் பகுதிக்குள் அவர்கள் வரவில்லை. ஏனெனில் அர்னோன் ஆறே மோவாப்பின் எல்லை.
19 Also Israel sent messengers vnto Sihon, King of the Amorites, the King of Heshbon, and Israel said vnto him, Let vs passe, we pray thee, by thy lande vnto our place.
“அதன்பின்பும் இஸ்ரயேலர் எஸ்போனில் அரசாண்ட எமோரியரின் அரசன் சீகோனுக்குத் தூதுவர்களை அனுப்பி, ‘உமது நாட்டின் வழியாக எங்கள் சொந்த இடத்திற்குப் போக அனுமதிகொடும்’ என்று கேட்டார்கள்.
20 But Sihon consented not to Israel, that he shoulde goe through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Iahaz, and fought with Israel.
ஆனால் சீகோன் இஸ்ரயேலரை நம்பாது தனது ஆட்சிப் பகுதியைக் கடந்துசெல்ல விடவில்லை. மாறாக அவன் தன் மனிதர்களையெல்லாம் ஒன்றுதிரட்டி, யாகாசிலே முகாமிட்டு இஸ்ரயேலரோடு போரிட்டான்.
21 And the Lord God of Israel gaue Sihon and all his folke into the handes of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the lande of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that countrey:
“அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா சீகோனையும், அவனுடைய மனிதர்களையும் இஸ்ரயேலரின் கையில் ஒப்படைத்ததால் இஸ்ரயேலர்கள் அவர்களை முறியடித்தார்கள். இஸ்ரயேலர் அந்நாட்களில் அந்த இடத்தில் வாழ்ந்த எமோரியரின் எல்லா நாட்டையும் பிடித்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.
22 And they possessed all the coast of the Amorites, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and from the wildernesse euen vnto Iorden.
அதோடு அர்னோன் ஆற்றிலிருந்து யாப்போத் ஆறுவரைக்கும், பாலைவனம் தொடக்கம் யோர்தான் ஆறுவரைக்கும் உள்ள நாடுகளையும் அவர்கள் கைப்பற்றினார்கள்.
23 Nowe therefore the Lord God of Israel hath cast out the Amorites before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possesse it?
“இப்பொழுது இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா, தனது மக்களான இஸ்ரயேலரின் முன்னால் எமோரியரைத் துரத்தியிருக்கையில் அந்நாட்டில் உங்களுக்கு என்ன உரிமை இருக்கிறது?
24 Wouldest not thou possesse that which Chemosh thy god giueth thee to possesse? So whomesoeuer the Lord our God driueth out before vs, them will we possesse.
உனது தெய்வமான கேமோஸ் தருவதை நீ எடுக்கமாட்டாயோ? அதுபோலவே எங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா எங்களுக்கு எதைக் கொடுத்தாலும் நாங்கள் அதை எங்கள் உடைமையாக்கிக்கொள்வோம்.
25 And art thou nowe farre better then Balak the sonne of Zippor King of Moab? did he not striue with Israel and fight against them,
நீங்கள் சிப்போரின் மகனும், மோவாப்பின் அரசனுமான பாலாக்கைவிட சிறந்தவர்களோ? அவன் எப்பொழுதாவது இஸ்ரயேலருடன் தர்க்கம் பண்ணியதும், சண்டையிட்டதும் உண்டோ?
26 When Israel dwelt in Heshbon and in her townes, and in Aroer and in her townes, and in all the cities that are by the coastes of Arnon, three hundreth yeeres? why did ye not then recouer them in that space?
இஸ்ரயேலர் எஸ்போன், அரோயேர் சுற்றுப்புற குடியிருப்புகளிலும், அர்னோனை அண்டியுள்ள எல்லாப் பட்டணங்களிலும் முந்நூறு வருடகாலமாக குடியிருந்தார்கள். நீங்கள் அந்தக் காலத்தில் ஏன் அதைத் திருப்பி எடுக்கவில்லை.
27 Wherefore, I haue not offended thee: but thou doest me wrong to warre against me. The Lord the Iudge be iudge this day betweene the children of Israel, and the children of Ammon.
நான் உனக்கு ஒரு தீங்கும் செய்யவில்லை. ஆனால் நீ எனக்கெதிராக யுத்தம் செய்வதனால் எனக்குத் தீங்கு செய்கிறாய். எனவே இந்நாளில் இஸ்ரயேலருக்கும், அம்மோனியருக்கும் இடையிலுள்ள தர்க்கத்தை நீதிபதியான யெகோவா தீர்த்து வைக்கட்டும்.”
28 Howbeit the King of the children of Ammon hearkened not vnto the wordes of Iphtah, which he had sent him.
ஆனால் அம்மோன் அரசனோ யெப்தாவின் செய்தி ஒன்றையும் கவனிக்கவில்லை.
29 Then the Spirite of the Lord came vpon Iphtah, and he passed ouer to Gilead and to Manasseh, and came to Mizpeh in Gilead, and from Mizpeh in Gilead he went vnto the children of Ammon.
அப்பொழுது யெகோவாவின் ஆவியானவர் யெப்தாவின்மேல் வந்தார். அவன் கீலேயாத்தையும், மனாசேயையும் கடந்துபோய்; கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற மிஸ்பாவுக்கு வந்து அங்கிருந்து அவன் அம்மோனியருக்கு எதிராக முன்னேறிச் சென்றான்.
30 And Iphtah vowed a vowe vnto the Lord, and said, If thou shalt deliuer the children of Ammon into mine handes,
அங்கே யெப்தா யெகோவாவுடன் ஒரு நேர்த்திக்கடன் செய்தான். “நீர் எனது கையில் அம்மோனியர்களைக் கொடுப்பீராகில்,
31 Then that thing that commeth out of the doores of mine house to meete me, when I come home in peace from the children of Ammon, shall be the Lordes, and I will offer it for a burnt offering.
நான் அம்மோனியரை வெற்றிகொண்டு திரும்பி வரும்போது, எனது வீட்டின் வாசலில் இருந்து முதன்முதல் என்னைச் சந்திக்க வருவது எதுவோ, அது யெகோவாவுக்குரியது; நான் அதை யெகோவாவுக்குக் காணிக்கையாகப் பலியிடுவேன்” என்றான்.
32 And so Iphtah went vnto the children of Ammon to fight against them, and the Lord deliuered them into his handes.
பின்பு யெப்தா அம்மோனியருடன் யுத்தம் செய்யப்போனான்; யெகோவா அவர்களை யெப்தாவின் கையில் கொடுத்தார்.
33 And he smote them from Aroer euen till thou come to Minnith, twentie cities, and so foorth to Abel of the vineyardes, with an exceeding great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were humbled before the children of Israel.
யெப்தா அரோயேர் தொடக்கம் ஆபேல் கேராமின் வரைக்கும் மின்னீத்தின் சுற்றுப்புறங்களிலுள்ள இருபது பட்டணங்களை முறியடித்தான். இவ்வாறு இஸ்ரயேலர் அம்மோனியரை அடக்கினார்கள்.
34 Nowe when Iphtah came to Mizpeh vnto his house, beholde, his daughter came out to meete him with timbrels and daunces, which was his onely childe: he had none other sonne, nor daughter.
யெப்தா மிஸ்பாவிலுள்ள தனது வீட்டிற்குத் திரும்பி வரும்போது, அவனைச் சந்திக்க வந்தது வேறு யாருமல்ல. அவனுடைய மகளே தான். அவள் தம்புரா தாளத்திற்கு நடனமாடிக்கொண்டு, அவன் முன்னே வந்தாள். அவள் அவனுடைய ஒரே பிள்ளை. அவளைவிட அவனுக்கு வேறு மகனோ, மகளோ இருக்கவில்லை.
35 And when hee sawe her, hee rent his clothes, and saide, Alas my daughter, thou hast brought me lowe, and art of them that trouble me: for I haue opened my mouth vnto the Lord, and can not goe backe.
அவன் தன் மகளைப் பார்த்ததும், “ஐயோ என் மகளே! நீ என்னை வேதனைக்குள்ளாக்கி விட்டாயே! நான் யெகோவாவுடன் செய்துகொண்ட நேர்த்திக்கடனை என்னால் மீறமுடியாதே” என சொல்லி தன் உடைகளைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு அழுதான்.
36 And she said vnto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth vnto the Lord, doe with me as thou hast promised, seeing that the Lord hath auenged thee of thine enemies the children of Ammon.
அதற்கு அவள், “என் தகப்பனே, நீர் யெகோவாவுக்கு வாக்குப்பண்ணி விட்டீர். உமது பகைவரான அம்மோனியரை யெகோவா பழிவாங்கியபடியால் நீர் வாக்குக் கொடுத்தபடி எனக்குச் செய்யும்.
37 Also she saide vnto her father, Doe thus much for me: suffer me two moneths, that I may goe to the mountaines, and bewaile my virginitie, I and my fellowes.
ஆனால் இந்த ஒரு வேண்டுகோளுக்கு இணங்கும். நான் திருமணம் செய்ய மாட்டேனாகையால், என் சிநேகிதிகளுடன் மலைகளில் சுற்றித்திரிந்து அழுவதற்கு எனக்கு இரண்டு மாதம் தவணை கொடும்” என்று கேட்டாள்.
38 And he sayde, Goe: and he sent her away two moneths: so she went with her companions, and lamented her virginitie vpon the moutaines.
அதற்கு அவன், “நீ போகலாம்” என்று சொல்லி இரண்டு மாதங்களுக்குப் போக அனுமதித்தான். அவளும், அவள் சிநேகிதிகளும் மலைகளின்மேல் சென்று, அவள் திருமணம் செய்யாத காரியத்தினிமித்தம் அவளுடன் சேர்ந்து அழுதார்கள்.
39 And after the ende of two moneths, she turned againe vnto her father, who did with her according to his vowe which he had vowed, and she had knowen no man. and it was a custome in Israel:
இரண்டு மாதங்களின் பின்பு அவள் தன் தகப்பனிடத்திற்கு திரும்பிவந்தாள்; அவன் தான் நேர்த்திக்கடன் செய்தபடி அவளுக்குச் செய்தான். அவள் கன்னிகையாயிருந்தாள்.
40 The daughters of Israel went yere by yere to lament the daughter of Iphtah the Gileadite, foure dayes in a yeere.
ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் இஸ்ரயேல் கன்னிப்பெண்கள் கீலேயாத்தியனான யெப்தாவின் மகளுக்காக, நாலு நாட்கள் வெளியில் போய் நினைவுகூர்ந்து துக்கங்கொண்டாடும் வழக்கம் இஸ்ரயேலருக்குள் இதனாலேயே வந்தது.
