Judges 11
1 Then Gilead begate Iphtah, and Iphtah the Gileadite was a valiant man, but the sonne of an harlot.
गिलआदवासी यिफ्ताह एक बहादुर योद्धा था; किंतु वह एक वेश्या का पुत्र था. उसके पिता का नाम गिलआद था.
2 And Gileads wife bare him sonnes, and when the womans children were come to age, they thrust out Iphtah, and sayd vnto him, Thou shalt not inherite in our fathers house: for thou art the sonne of a strange woman.
गिलआद की पत्नी से भी पुत्र पैदा हुए. जब ये पुत्र बड़े हुए, तब उन्होंने उसे यह कहते हुए घर से निकाल दिया: “तुम तो पराई स्त्री से जन्मे हो, इस कारण हमारे पिता की मीरास में तुम्हारा कोई भाग न होगा.”
3 Then Iphtah fledde from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there gathered idle fellowes to Iphtah, and went out with him.
तब यिफ्ताह अपने भाइयों से दूर भागकर तोब देश में रहने लगा. वहां निकम्मे, खराब लोग उसके साथी बनते चले गए, जो उसके साथ साथ रहते थे.
4 And in processe of time the children of Ammon made warre with Israel.
कुछ समय बाद अम्मोन वंशजों ने इस्राएलियों से युद्ध छेड़ दिया.
5 And when the children of Ammon fought with Israel, the Elders of Gilead went to fet Iphtah out of the land of Tob.
जब अम्मोन वंशज इस्राएल से युद्ध कर रहे थे, गिलआद के अगुए लोग तोब देश से यिफ्ताह को लेने जा पहुंचे.
6 And they saide vnto Iphtah, Come and be our captaine, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
उन्होंने यिफ्ताह से विनती की, “आकर हमारे सेनापति का कार्यभार संभाल लो, कि हम अम्मोनियों से युद्ध कर सकें.”
7 Iphtah then answered the Elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expell me out of my fathers house? how then come you vnto me now in time of your tribulation?
गिलआद के अगुओं को यिफ्ताह ने उत्तर दिया, “क्या आप ही नहीं थे, जिन्होंने घृणा करके मुझे मेरे पिता के घर से बाहर निकाल दिया था? अब, जब आप पर संकट आ पड़ा है, तो आप लोग मेरे पास क्यों आए हैं?”
8 Then the Elders of Gilead saide vnto Iphtah, Therefore we turne againe to thee now, that thou mayest goe with vs, and fight against the children of Ammon, and bee our head ouer all the inhabitants of Gilead.
गिलआद के अगुओं ने यिफ्ताह को उत्तर दिया, “तुम्हारे पास हमारे लौटने का कारण सिर्फ यह है कि तुम हमारे साथ चलो और अम्मोन वंशजों से युद्ध कर सारे गिलआद वासियों के प्रधान बन जाओ.”
9 And Iphtah said vnto the Elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home againe to fight against the children of Ammon, if the Lord giue them before me, shall I be your head?
इस पर यिफ्ताह ने गिलआद के अगुओं से प्रश्न किया, “अर्थात् यदि आप मुझे अम्मोन वंशजों से युद्ध करने के उद्देश्य से वापस ले जाते हैं, और याहवेह उन्हें मेरे अधीन कर देते हैं, तो मैं आपका प्रधान बन जाऊंगा?”
10 And the Elders of Gilead saide to Iphtah, The Lord be witnesse betweene vs, if we doe not according to thy wordes.
गिलआद के पुरनियों ने यिफ्ताह को उत्तर दिया, “स्वयं याहवेह हमारे बीच गवाह हैं, निश्चय ही हम ठीक वैसा ही करेंगे जैसा तुमने अभी कहा है.”
11 Then Iphtah went with the Elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captaine ouer them: and Iphtah rehearsed all his wordes before the Lord in Mizpeh.
सो यिफ्ताह गिलआद के पुरनियों के साथ चला गया. प्रजाजनों ने उसे अपने ऊपर अधिनायक एवं प्रधान नियुक्त कर दिया. यिफ्ताह ने मिज़पाह में याहवेह के सामने पूरी वाचा दोहरा दी.
12 Then Iphtah sent messengers vnto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to doe with me, that thou art come against me, to fight in my lande?
यिफ्ताह ने तब अम्मोन वंशजों के राजा को इस संदेश के साथ दूत भेज दिए: “मैंने आपकी ऐसी क्या हानि कर दी है, जिसके निमित्त आप हमारे देश से युद्ध करने आ गए हैं?”
13 And the King of the children of Ammon answered vnto the messengers of Iphtah, Because Israel tooke my lande, when they came vp from Egypt, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and vnto Iorden: now therefore restore those lands quietly.
अम्मोन वंशजों के राजा ने यिफ्ताह के दूतों को उत्तर दिया, “मिस्र से निकलकर आते हुए इस्राएल ने आरनोन से लेकर यब्बोक तथा यरदन तक की भूमि पर कब्जा कर लिया था. इसलिये अब सही होगा कि शांतिपूर्वक यह भूमि हमें लौटा दी जाए.”
14 Yet Iphtah sent messengers againe vnto the King of the children of Ammon,
यिफ्ताह ने अम्मोन वंशजों के राजा के लिए दोबारा दूत भेजे.
15 And said vnto him, Thus saith Iphtah, Israel tooke not the lande of Moab, nor the lande of the children of Ammon.
उन्होंने राजा से यों कहने को आदेश दिया, “यिफ्ताह का संदेश यह है: इस्राएल ने न तो मोआब की भूमि पर कब्जा किया है, और न ही अम्मोन वंशजों की.
16 But when Israel came vp from Egypt, and walked through the wildernesse vnto the redde Sea, then they came to Kadesh.
क्योंकि जब इस्राएल मिस्र देश से निकला, वह निर्जन प्रदेश में से लाल सागर पहुंचा और वहां से कादेश को.
17 And Israel sent messengers vnto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, goe thorowe thy lande: but the King of Edom woulde not consent: and also they sent vnto the King of Moab, but he would not: therefore Israel abode in Kadesh.
वहां पहुंचकर इस्राएल ने एदोम के राजा के लिए दूतों से यह संदेश भेजा था: ‘कृपा कर हमें आपके देश में से होकर आगे जाने की आज्ञा दीजिए!’ किंतु एदोम के राजा ने इस विनती की ओर तनिक भी ध्यान न दिया. उन्होंने यही विनती मोआब के राजा से भी की, किंतु वह भी इसके लिए राज़ी न हुआ. इस कारण इस्राएल कादेश में ही रुक गया.
18 Then they went through the wildernesse, and compassed the lande of Edom, and the lande of Moab, and came by the Eastside of the lande of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, and came not within the coast of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
“तब उन्होंने निर्जन प्रदेश में से यात्रा की. इसके लिए उन्हें एदोम और मोआब देशों में प्रवेश न करते हुए, घूमकर आगे बढ़ना पड़ा, और वे मोआब देश के पूर्व में पहुंच गए. उन्होंने आरनोन के दूसरी ओर छावनी डाल दी और मोआब की सीमा में प्रवेश किया ही नहीं. आरनोन मोआब की सीमा पर था.
19 Also Israel sent messengers vnto Sihon, King of the Amorites, the King of Heshbon, and Israel said vnto him, Let vs passe, we pray thee, by thy lande vnto our place.
“इसके बाद इस्राएल ने अमोरियों के राजा सीहोन को, जो हेशबोन से शासन कर रहे थे, दूतों द्वारा यह संदेश भेजा, ‘कृपया हमें अपने देश में से होकर हमारे देश में पहुंचने की आज्ञा दीजिए.’
20 But Sihon consented not to Israel, that he shoulde goe through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Iahaz, and fought with Israel.
किंतु सीहोन ने इस्राएल पर भरोसा ही न किया, कि वह उसके देश की सीमा से होकर निकल जाएगा. इस कारण सीहोन ने अपनी सेना तैयार की, यहत्स में छावनी ड़ाल दी और इस्राएल से युद्ध करने लगा.
21 And the Lord God of Israel gaue Sihon and all his folke into the handes of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the lande of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that countrey:
“याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर ने सीहोन तथा उसकी सारी सेना को इस्राएल के अधीन कर दिया; उन्होंने उन्हें हरा दिया. फलस्वरूप उस देश के निवासी तथा सारे अमोरी देश इस्राएल के अधिकार में आ गए.
22 And they possessed all the coast of the Amorites, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and from the wildernesse euen vnto Iorden.
आरनोन से लेकर यब्बोक तक तथा निर्जन प्रदेश से लेकर यरदन तक का सारा क्षेत्र उनका हो गया.
23 Nowe therefore the Lord God of Israel hath cast out the Amorites before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possesse it?
“अब आप ही बताइए, जब याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर ने ही अमोरियों को अपनी प्रजा इस्राएल के सामने से हटा दिया है, क्या आपका इस पर कोई अधिकार रह जाता है?
24 Wouldest not thou possesse that which Chemosh thy god giueth thee to possesse? So whomesoeuer the Lord our God driueth out before vs, them will we possesse.
क्या आप स्वयं उस पर अधिकार नहीं किए हुए हैं, जो आपने अपने देवता खेमोश से पाया है? इसलिये, इसी प्रकार जो जगह याहवेह, हमारे परमेश्वर द्वारा हमारे सामने खाली करवाई गई है, हम उस पर अधिकार बनाए रखेंगे.
25 And art thou nowe farre better then Balak the sonne of Zippor King of Moab? did he not striue with Israel and fight against them,
क्या आप ज़ीप्पोर के पुत्र मोआब के राजा बालाक से बढ़कर हैं? क्या उसने कभी भी इस्राएल का सामना करने का साहस किया था अथवा क्या उसने कभी भी इस्राएल से युद्ध किया?
26 When Israel dwelt in Heshbon and in her townes, and in Aroer and in her townes, and in all the cities that are by the coastes of Arnon, three hundreth yeeres? why did ye not then recouer them in that space?
जब इस्राएल तीन सौ वर्षों से हेशबोन और उसके गांवों में, अरोअर तथा उसके गांवों में तथा आरनोन के तटवर्ती नगरों में रहता रहा, आपने उन्हें उसी समय वापस कब्जा करने की कोशिश क्यों नहीं की?
27 Wherefore, I haue not offended thee: but thou doest me wrong to warre against me. The Lord the Iudge be iudge this day betweene the children of Israel, and the children of Ammon.
इन बातों के प्रकाश में मैंने आपके विरुद्ध कोई पाप नहीं किया है, बल्कि आप ही मुझसे युद्ध करने की भूल कर रहे हैं. याहवेह, जो न्यायाध्यक्ष हैं, वही आज इस्राएल वंशजों तथा अम्मोन वंशजों के बीच न्याय करें.”
28 Howbeit the King of the children of Ammon hearkened not vnto the wordes of Iphtah, which he had sent him.
किंतु अम्मोन वंशजों के राजा ने यिफ्ताह द्वारा भेजे संदेश को न माना.
29 Then the Spirite of the Lord came vpon Iphtah, and he passed ouer to Gilead and to Manasseh, and came to Mizpeh in Gilead, and from Mizpeh in Gilead he went vnto the children of Ammon.
इसी समय याहवेह का आत्मा यिफ्ताह पर उतरी. वह गिलआद एवं मनश्शेह में से होता हुआ आगे बढ़ा. इसके बाद वह मिज़पाह के गिलआद में से होता हुआ, वह अम्मोन वंशजों के क्षेत्र में जा पहुंचा.
30 And Iphtah vowed a vowe vnto the Lord, and said, If thou shalt deliuer the children of Ammon into mine handes,
यिफ्ताह ने याहवेह के सामने यह शपथ ली, “यदि आप वास्तव में अम्मोन वंशजों को मेरे अधीन कर देंगे,
31 Then that thing that commeth out of the doores of mine house to meete me, when I come home in peace from the children of Ammon, shall be the Lordes, and I will offer it for a burnt offering.
जब मैं अम्मोन वंशजों से सुरक्षित लौट आऊंगा, तब मेरे निवास के द्वारों में से जो कोई मुझसे भेंटकरने बाहर आएगा, वह याहवेह का हो जाएगा-मैं उसे होमबलि के रूप में चढ़ा दूंगा.”
32 And so Iphtah went vnto the children of Ammon to fight against them, and the Lord deliuered them into his handes.
यिफ्ताह ने आगे बढ़कर अम्मोन वंशजों पर हमला कर दिया. याहवेह ने उन्हें उसके अधीन कर दिया.
33 And he smote them from Aroer euen till thou come to Minnith, twentie cities, and so foorth to Abel of the vineyardes, with an exceeding great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were humbled before the children of Israel.
अरोअर से लेकर मिन्निथ के प्रवेश तक बीस नगरों में तथा आबेल-केरामिन तक उसने घोर संहार किया. इस प्रकार अम्मोन वंशज, इस्राएल वंशजों के सामने हार गए.
34 Nowe when Iphtah came to Mizpeh vnto his house, beholde, his daughter came out to meete him with timbrels and daunces, which was his onely childe: he had none other sonne, nor daughter.
जब यिफ्ताह अपने आवास मिज़पाह लौटा, उसने देखा, कि उसकी पुत्री डफ बजाती नाचती हुई उससे भेंटकरने आ रही थी. वह यिफ्ताह की एकलौती संतान थी. उसके अलावा उसके न तो कोई पुत्र था, न कोई पुत्री.
35 And when hee sawe her, hee rent his clothes, and saide, Alas my daughter, thou hast brought me lowe, and art of them that trouble me: for I haue opened my mouth vnto the Lord, and can not goe backe.
जैसे ही उसकी नज़र अपनी पुत्री पर पड़ी, उसने अपने वस्त्र फाड़ डाले और कहा, “हाय, मेरी पुत्री! तुमने तो मुझे खत्म ही कर दिया. तुम मेरे शोक का कारण हो गई हो. मैंने याहवेह को वचन दिया है, जिसे मैं मना नहीं कर सकता.”
36 And she said vnto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth vnto the Lord, doe with me as thou hast promised, seeing that the Lord hath auenged thee of thine enemies the children of Ammon.
यह सुन उसकी पुत्री ने यिफ्ताह को उत्तर दिया, “पिताजी, आपने शपथ याहवेह से की है. मेरे साथ आप वही कीजिए, जैसा आपने कहा है; क्योंकि याहवेह ने आपके द्वारा अम्मोन वंशजों, आपके शत्रुओं से बदला लिया है.”
37 Also she saide vnto her father, Doe thus much for me: suffer me two moneths, that I may goe to the mountaines, and bewaile my virginitie, I and my fellowes.
उसने अपने पिता से यह भी कहा, “जैसा आपने कहा है, मेरे साथ वैसा ही किया जाए; सिर्फ मुझे दो महीने के लिए अकेली छोड़ दिया जाए, कि मैं अपनी सहेलियों के साथ पहाड़ों पर जाकर अपने कुंवारी ही रह जाने के लिए रोऊंगी.”
38 And he sayde, Goe: and he sent her away two moneths: so she went with her companions, and lamented her virginitie vpon the moutaines.
“जाओ,” यिफ्ताह ने कहा और उसने दो महीने के लिए अपनी पुत्री को विदा कर दिया. वह चली गई और पहाड़ों पर अपने कुंवारी रह जाने के लिए रोती रही.
39 And after the ende of two moneths, she turned againe vnto her father, who did with her according to his vowe which he had vowed, and she had knowen no man. and it was a custome in Israel:
दो महीने पूरे होने पर वह लौटी और यिफ्ताह ने उसके विषय में अपनी शपथ पूरी की, किसी पुरुष से उसका संबंध न हुआ था. इस्राएल में इसकी याद में एक प्रथा प्रचलित हो गई:
40 The daughters of Israel went yere by yere to lament the daughter of Iphtah the Gileadite, foure dayes in a yeere.
इस्राएली कन्याएं हर साल गिलआदवासी यिफ्ताह की पुत्री की याद में चार दिन विलाप करती हैं.
