Judges 10
1 After Abimelech there arose to defend Israel, Tola, the sonne of Puah, the sone of Dodo, a man of Issachar, which dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.
Après Abimélech, parut comme chef en Israël, Thola, fils de Phua, oncle paternel d’Abimélech, homme de la tribu d’Issachar, qui habita à Samir de la montagne d’Ephraïm;
2 And he iudged Israel three and twentie yeere and dyed, and was buried in Shamir.
Et il jugea Israël pendant vingt-trois ans; et il mourut, et fut enseveli dans Samir.
3 And after him arose Iair a Gileadite, and iudged Israel two and twenty yeere.
À Thola succéda Jaïr Galaadite qui jugea Israël pendant vingt-deux ans,
4 And he had thirtie sonnes that rode on thirtie assecolts, and they had thirtie cities, which are called Hauoth-Iair vnto this day, and are in the land of Gilead.
Ayant trente fils, qui montaient sur trente poulains d’ânesses, et étaient princes de trente villes dans la terre de Galaad, qui ont été appelées de son nom, Havoth-Jaïr, c’est-à-dire villes de Jaïr, jusqu’au présent jour,
5 And Iair dyed, and was buried in Kamon.
Jaïr mourut ensuite, et il fut enseveli dans un lieu dont le nom est Camon.
6 And the children of Israel wrought wickednesse againe in the sight of the Lord, and serued Baalim and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Aram, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistims, and forsooke the Lord and serued not him.
Mais les enfants d’Israël ajoutant aux anciens péchés des nouveaux, firent le mal en la présence du Seigneur, et servirent des idoles, les Baalim, les Astaroth, les dieux de Syrie, de Sidon, de Moab, des enfants d’Ammon et des Philistins; et ils abandonnèrent le Seigneur, et ne l’adorèrent point.
7 Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he solde them into the hands of the Philistims, and into the handes of the children of Ammon:
Le Seigneur irrité contre eux, les livra aux mains des Philistins et des enfants d’Ammon.
8 Who from that yere vexed and oppressed the children of Israel eighteene yeres, euen all the children of Israel that were beyond Iorden, in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
Et tous ceux qui habitaient au-delà du Jourdain, dans la terre de l’Amorrhéen, qui est en Galaad, furent affligés et violemment opprimés pendant dix-huit ans;
9 Moreouer, the children of Ammon went ouer Iorden to fight against Iudah, and against Beniamin, and against the house of Ephraim: so that Israel was sore tormented.
En sorte que les enfants d’Ammon, passant le Jourdain, ravageaient Juda, Benjamin et Ephraïm: ainsi, Israël fut extrêmement affligé,
10 Then the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord, saying, We haue sinned against thee, euen because we haue forsaken our owne God, and haue serued Baalim.
C’est pourquoi criant ait Seigneur, ils dirent: Nous avons péché contre vous, parce que, nous avons abandonné le Seigneur notre Dieu, et nous avons servi les Baalim,
11 And the Lord sayd vnto the children of Israel, Did not I deliuer you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon and from the Philistims?
Le Seigneur leur répondit: N’est-ce pas que les Egyptiens, les Amorrhéens, les enfants d’Ammon, les Philistins,
12 The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites did oppresse you, and ye cryed to me and I saued you out of their hands.
Les Sidoniens aussi, et Amalec et Chanaan vous ont opprimés, que vous avez crié vers moi, et que je vous ai délivrés de leur main?
13 Yet ye haue forsaken me, and serued other gods: wherefore I will deliuer you no more.
Et cependant vous m’avez abandonné, et vous avez adoré des dieux étrangers: c’est pourquoi je ne recommencerai plus à vous délivrer.
14 Goe, and cry vnto the gods which ye haue chosen: let them saue you in the time of your tribulation.
Allez, et invoquez les dieux que vous avez choisis; qu’ils vous délivrent eux-mêmes dans le temps de l’angoisse.
15 And the children of Israel sayde vnto the Lord, We haue sinned: doe thou vnto vs whatsoeuer please thee: onely we pray thee to deliuer vs this day.
Et les enfants d’Israël dirent au Seigneur: Nous avons péché, faites-nous vous-même, en retour, tout ce qu’il vous plaira; seulement pour cette heure délivrez-nous.
16 Then they put away the strange gods from among them and serued the Lord: and his soule was grieued for the miserie of Israel.
Disant cela, ils jetèrent hors de leur territoire les idoles des dieux étrangers, et ils servirent le Seigneur Dieu, qui fut sensible à leurs misères.
17 Then the children of Ammon gathered themselues together, and pitched in Gilead: and the children of Israel assembled themselues, and pitched in Mizpeh.
C’est pourquoi les enfants d’Ammon, jetant de grands cris, plantèrent leurs tentes en Galaad; et les enfants d’Israël, s’étant réunis contre eux, campèrent à Maspha.
18 And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, Whosoeuer will beginne the battell against the children of Ammon, the same shall be head ouer all the inhabitants of Gilead.
Et les princes de Galaad se dirent les uns aux autres: Le premier d’entre nous qui commencera à combattre contre les enfants d’Ammon, sera le chef du peuple de Galaad.
