Joshua 1

1 Nowe after the death of Moses the seruant of the Lord, the Lord spake vnto Ioshua the sonne of Nun, Moses minister, saying,

Nach dem Tode Moses, des Knechtes des HERRN, sagte der HERR zu Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, dem Diener Moses:

2 Moses my seruant is dead: nowe therefore arise, go ouer this Iorden, thou, and all this people, vnto the lande which I giue them, that is, to ye children of Israel.

»Mein Knecht Mose ist tot; so mache du dich nun auf und ziehe über den Jordan dort, du und das ganze Volk da, in das Land hinüber, das ich ihnen, den Israeliten, geben will.

3 Euery place that the sole of your foote shall treade vpon, haue I giuen you, as I said vnto Moses.

Allen Grund und Boden, auf den eure Fußsohle treten wird, gebe ich euch, wie ich es Mose zugesagt habe.

4 From the wildernesse and this Lebanon euen vnto the great riuer, the riuer Perath: all the land of the Hittites, euen vnto the great Sea towarde the going downe of the sunne, shalbe your coast.

Von der Wüste und dem Libanon dort bis an den großen Strom, den Euphratstrom, das ganze Land der Hethiter, bis zu dem großen Meer im Westen soll euer Gebiet reichen.

5 There shall not a man be able to withstande thee all the dayes of thy life: as I was with Moses, so will I be with thee: I will not leaue thee, nor forsake thee.

Niemand soll vor dir standhalten können, solange du lebst: wie ich mit Mose gewesen bin, so will ich auch mit dir sein; ich will dir meine Hilfe nicht entziehen und dich nicht verlassen.

6 Be strong and of a good courage: for vnto this people shalt thou deuide the lande for an inheritance, which I sware vnto their fathers to giue them.

Sei mutig und stark! Denn du sollst diesem Volk das Land als Erbe austeilen, dessen Verleihung ich ihren Vätern zugeschworen habe.

7 Onely be thou strong, and of a most valiant courage, that thou mayest obserue and doe according to all the Lawe which Moses my seruant hath commanded thee: thou shalt not turne away from it to the right hande, nor to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoeuer thou goest.

Nur sei stark und fest entschlossen, auf die Beobachtung aller Weisungen des Gesetzes bedacht zu sein, das mein Knecht Mose dir zur Pflicht gemacht hat; weiche davon weder nach rechts noch nach links ab, damit du bei allen deinen Unternehmungen glücklichen Erfolg hast.

8 Let not this booke of the Law depart out of thy mouth, but meditate therin day and night, that thou mayest obserue and doe according to all that is written therein: for then shalt thou make thy way prosperous, and then shalt thou haue good successe.

Höre nicht auf, von diesem Gesetzbuch zu reden, und sinne Tag und Nacht darüber nach, damit du auf die Beobachtung alles dessen, was darin geschrieben steht, bedacht bist; denn alsdann wirst du glücklichen Erfolg bei deinen Unternehmungen haben, und alsdann wird dir alles gelingen.

9 Haue not I commanded thee, saying, Be strong and of a good courage, feare not, nor be discouraged? for I the Lord thy God will be with thee, whithersoeuer thou goest.

Ich habe dir also zur Pflicht gemacht: Sei stark und entschlossen! Habe keine Angst und verzage nicht! Denn mit dir ist der HERR, dein Gott, bei allem, was du unternimmst.«

10 Then Ioshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Da gab Josua den Obmännern des Volkes folgenden Befehl:

11 Passe through the hoste, and commande the people, saying, Prepare you vitailes: for after three dayes ye shall passe ouer this Iorden, to goe in to possesse the lande, which the Lord your God giueth you to possesse it.

»Geht hin und her im Lager und gebt dem Volke folgenden Befehl: ›Versorgt euch mit Lebensmitteln! Denn (schon) in drei Tagen werdet ihr über den Jordan dort ziehen, um in den Besitz des Landes zu kommen, das der HERR, euer Gott, euch zum Eigentum geben will.‹«

12 And vnto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to halfe the tribe of Manasseh spake Ioshua, saying,

Zu den Stämmen Ruben und Gad und dem halben Stamm Manasse aber sagte Josua:

13 Remember the worde, which Moses the seruant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath giuen you rest, and hath giuen you this land.

»Denkt an das Wort, das Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, euch zur Pflicht gemacht hat, als er sagte: ›Der HERR, euer Gott, hat euch ans Ziel gelangen lassen und euch dieses Land gegeben.‹

14 Your wiues, your children, and your cattell shall remaine in the land which Moses gaue you on this side Iorden: but ye shall goe ouer before your brethren armed, all that be men of warre, and shall helpe them,

Eure Frauen, eure kleinen Kinder und euer Vieh mögen in dem Lande bleiben, das euch Mose auf dieser Seite des Jordans angewiesen hat; ihr aber, alle kriegstüchtigen Männer, müßt kampfgerüstet an der Spitze eurer Brüder hinüberziehen und ihnen Beistand leisten,

15 Vntill the Lord haue giuen your brethren rest, as well as to you, and vntill they also shall possesse the land, which the Lord your God giueth them: then shall ye returne vnto the lande of your possession and shall possesse it, which land Moses the Lordes seruant gaue you on this side Iorden toward the sunne rising.

bis der HERR eure Brüder ebenso wie euch ans Ziel gebracht hat und auch sie das Land in Besitz genommen haben, das der HERR, euer Gott, ihnen geben will. Alsdann sollt ihr in euer eigenes Land zurückkehren und es als Besitz innehaben, das Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, euch im Ostjordanlande angewiesen hat.«

16 Then they answered Ioshua, saying, Al that thou hast commanded vs, we will doe, and whithersoeuer thou sendest vs, we will goe.

Da gaben sie dem Josua folgende Antwort: »Alles, was du uns befohlen hast, wollen wir tun, und wohin du uns auch sendest, dahin wollen wir gehen.

17 As we obeyed Moses in all things, so will we obey thee: onely the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Ganz so, wie wir Mose gehorcht haben, wollen wir auch dir gehorchen. Nur möge der HERR, dein Gott, mit dir sein, wie er mit Mose gewesen ist!

18 Whosoeuer shall rebell against thy commandement, and will not obey thy wordes in all that thou commaundest him, let him bee put to death: onely be strong and of good courage.

Jeder, der sich deinen Befehlen widersetzt und deinen Anordnungen nicht gehorcht, sooft du uns etwas gebietest, soll mit dem Tode bestraft werden. Nur sei stark und entschlossen!«
