Joshua 7
1 But the children of Israel committed a trespasse in the excommunicate thing: for Achan the sonne of Carmi, the sonne of Zabdi, the sonne of Zerah of the tribe of Iuda tooke of the excommunicate thing: wherfore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the children of Israel.
Die Israeliten aber vergriffen sich treulos an dem Geweihten; denn Achan, der Sohn Karmis, des Sohnes Sabdis, des Sohnes Serahs aus dem Stamme Juda eignete sich etwas von dem Geweihten an. da wurde Jahwe sehr zornig über die Israeliten.
2 And Ioshua sent men from Iericho to Ai, which is beside Bethauen, on ye East side of Bethel, and spake vnto them, saying, Goe vp, and view the countrey. And ye men went vp, and viewed Ai,
Hierauf sandte Josua von Jericho aus Leute nach Ai, das bei Beth Aven östlich von Bethel liegt, und befahl ihnen: Zieht hinauf und kudschaftet die gegend aus! Da zogen die Männer hinauf und kundschafteten Ai aus.
3 And returned to Ioshua, and saide vnto him, Let not al the people go vp, but let as it were two or three thousand men go vp, and smite Ai, and make not al the people to labour thither, for they are fewe.
Sodann kehrten sie zu Josua zurück und berichteten ihm: Es braucht nicht das gesamte Volk hinzuziehen; zwei- oder dreitausend Mann mögen hinziehen, um Ai zu unterwerfen. Du brauchst nicht das ganze Volk dorthin zu bemühen, denn jene sind gering an Zahl!
4 So there went vp thither of the people about three thousande men, and they fledde before the men of Ai.
Da zogen von dem Volk ungefähr dreitausend Mann dorthin; sie wurden jedoch von den Einwohnern von Ai in die Flucht geschlagen.
5 And the men of Ai smote of them vpon a thirtie and sixe men: for they chased them from before the gate vnto Shebarim, and smote them in the going downe: wherfore the heartes of the people melted away like water.
Und die Einwohner von Ai erschlugen von ihnen ungefähr sechsunddreißig Mann, verfolgten sie von dem Stadtthore bis Saharim und schlugen sie am Bergabhang; da entsank dem Volke der Mut und zerfloß.
6 Then Ioshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth vpon his face before the Arke of the Lord, vntill the euentide, he, and the Elders of Israel, and put dust vpon their heads.
Josua aber zerriß seine Kleider, warf sich vor der Lade Jahwes auf sein Angesicht zu Boden und lag da bis zum Abend, er und die Vornehmsten der Israeliten, und sie streuten Erde auf ihr Haupt.
7 And Ioshua said, Alas, O Lord God, wherefore hast thou brought this people ouer Iorden, to deliuer vs into the hande of the Amorites, and to destroye vs? would God we had bene content to dwell on the other side Iorden.
Und Josua sprach: Ach Herr, Jahwe! Hast du denn dieses Volk den Jordan überschreiten lassen, um uns den Amoritern zu überliefern, damit sie uns vernichten? O hätten wir uns doch entschlossen, jenseits des Jordan wohnen zu bleiben!
8 Oh Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turne their backes before their enemies?
Aber bitte, o Herr! Was soll ich sagen, nachdem nun die Israeliten vor ihren Feinden haben fliehen müssen?
9 For the Canaanites, and all the inhabitants of the land shall heare of it, and shall compasse vs, and destroy our name out of the earth: and what wilt thou doe vnto thy mightie Name?
Wenn das die Kanaaniter und alle Bewohner des Landes erfahren, so werden sie uns umzingeln und uns bis auf den Namen vom Erdboden vertilgen. Was willst du nun für deinen gewaltigen Namen tun?
10 And the Lord said vnto Ioshua, Get thee vp: wherefore lyest thou thus vpon thy face?
Jahwe aber erwiderte Josua: Steh auf! Wozu liegst du noch auf deinem Angesicht
11 Israel hath sinned, and they haue transgressed my couenant, which I commanded them: for they haue euen taken of the excommunicate thing, and haue also stollen, and dissembled also, and haue put it euen with their owne stuffe.
Die Israeliten haben sich versündigt; haben sie doch die Verfügung, die ich ihnen gegenüber getroffen habe, übertreten und sich von dem Geweihten etwas angeeignet. So haben sie sowohl einen Diebstahl begangen, als auch das Gestohlene verheimlicht - haben sie es ja doch unter ihre Geräte getan!
12 Therefore ye children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies, but haue turned their backes before their enemies, because they be execrable: neither will I bee with you any more, except ye destroy the excommunicate from among you.
daher können die Israeliten vor ihren Feinden nicht standhalten; sondern müssen vor ihren Feinden die Flucht ergreifen, weil sie selbst dem Banne verfallen sind. deshalb will ich nicht eher wieder mit euch sein, als bis ihr das dem Banne Geweihte aus eurer Mitte getilgt habt.
13 Vp therefore, sanctifie the people, and say, Sanctifie your selues against to morowe: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an execrable thing among you, O Israel, therefore ye cannot stand against your enemies, vntill ye haue put the execrable thing from among you.
Geh ans Werk, weihe das Volk und befiehl: Sorgt dafür, dß ihr morgen rein seid! Denn so spricht Jahwe, der Gott Israels: dem Banne geweihtes ist unter dir, o Israel! Darum kannst du vor deinen Feinden nicht standhalten, bis ihr das dem Banne Geweihte aus euerer Mitte entfernt habt.
14 In the morning therefore ye shall come according to your tribes, and the tribe which the Lord taketh, shall come according to the families: and the familie which the Lord shall take, shall come by the housholds: and the houshold which the Lord shall take, shall come man by man.
Deshalb sollt ihr morgen früh Stamm für Stamm herantreten, und der Stamm, den Jahwe bezeichnen wird, sollen die einzelnen Männer herantreten.
15 And he that is taken with the excommunicate thing, shall be burnt with fire, hee, and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the couenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
Denjenigen aber, der im Besitze des dem Banne Geweihten betroffen wird, soll man verbrennen nebst allen, was ihm angehört; denn er hat die Verfügung Jahwes übertreten und eine schandthat in Israel verübt!
16 So Ioshua rose vp earely in the morning and brought Israel by their tribes: and the tribe of Iudah was taken.
da ließ Josua am andern Morgen früh die Israeliten Stamm für Stamm herantreten; da wurde der Stamm Juda bezeichnet.
17 And he brought the families of Iudah, and tooke the familie of the Zarhites, and he brought the familie of the Zarhites, man by man, and Zabdi was taken.
Da ließ er die Geschlechter Judas herantreten und bezeichnete das Geschlecht der Serahiter. Sodann ließ er das Geschlecht der Serahiter familienweise herantreten, Mann für Mann,
18 And he brought his houshold, man by man, and Achan ye sonne of Carmi, the sonne of Zabdi, the sonne of Zerah of the tribe of Iudah was take.
und nun wurde Achan, der Sohn Karmis, des Sohnes Sabdis, des Sohnes Serahs, aus dem Stamme Juda bezeichnet.
19 Then Ioshua said vnto Achan, My sonne, I beseech thee, giue glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession vnto him, and shewe me now what thou hast done: hide it not from me.
Da sprach Josua zu Achan: Mein Sohn, gieb Jahwe, dem Gott Israels, die Ehre und lege ihm ein Bekenntnis ab. Sage mir doch, was du getan hast; verhehle mir nichts!
20 And Achan answered Ioshua, and saide, In deede, I haue sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus, and thus haue I done.
Da erwiderte Achan Josua und sprach: Ich habe mich in Wahrheit an Jahwe, dem Gott Israels versündigt: das und das habe ich getan.
21 I sawe among the spoyle a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundreth shekels of siluer, and a wedge of golde of fiftie shekels weight, and I coueted them, and tooke them: and behold, they lye hid in the earth in the mids of my tent, and the siluer vnder it.
Ich erblickte unter der Beute einen schönen Mantel aus Sinear, zweihundert Sekel Silber und eine goldene Zunge, fünfzig Sekel schwer. Da gelüstete es mich nach diesen Dingen, und ich eignete sie mir an; sie liegen im Boden vergraben in meinem Zelt und das Geld liegt darunter.
22 Then Ioshua sent messengers, which ran vnto the tent, and beholde, it was hid in his tent, and the siluer vnder it.
Da schickte Josua Boten aus, die liefen in das Zelt; da ergab sich, daß die Sachen in seinem Zelte vergraben waren und das Geld darunter.
23 Therefore they tooke them out of the tent, and brought them vnto Ioshua, and vnto all the children of Israel, and layd them before the Lord.
Und sie nahmen sie aus dem Zelte fort, brachten sie zu Josua und allen Israeliten und legten sie vor Jahwe nieder.
24 Then Ioshua tooke Achan the sonne of Zerah, and the siluer, and the garment and the wedge of golde and his sonnes, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheepe, and his tent, and all that hee had: and all Israel with him brought them vnto the valley of Achor.
Josua aber nahmAchan, den Sohn Serahs, das geld, den Mantel und die goldene Zunge, sowie seine Söhne und Töchter, seine Rinder, Esel und Schafe nebst seinem Zelt und allem, was ihm gehörte, im Beisein aller Israeliten, und sie brachten sie hinauf ins Tal Achor.
25 And Ioshua said, In as much as thou hast troubled vs, the Lord shall trouble thee this day: and all Israel threwe stones at him, and burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.
Da sprach Josua: Wie hast du uns ins Unglück gestürzt! So stürze dich jetzt Jahwe ins Unglück! Da bewarfen ihn alle Israeliten mit Steinen, und sie verbrannten sie und steinigten sie.
26 And they cast vpon him a great heape of stones vnto this day: and so the Lord turned from his fierce wrath: therefore hee called the name of that place, The valley of Achor, vnto this day.
Sodann errichteten sie über ihm einen großen Steinhaufen, der befindet sich dort bis auf den heutigen Tag; Jahwe aber ließ ab von seinem heftigen Zorn. Daher heißt jene Stätte Thal Achor bis auf den heutigen Tag.
