Joshua 24
1 And Ioshua assembled againe all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called the Elders of Israel, and their heades, and their iudges, and their officers, and they presented themselues before God.
Sitten Joosua kokosi kaikki Israelin sukukunnat Sikemiin ja kutsui Israelin vanhimmat, sen päämiehet, tuomarit ja päällysmiehet, ja he asettuivat Jumalan eteen.
2 Then Ioshua said vnto all the people, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt beyond the flood in olde time, euen Terah the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor, and serued other gods.
Ja Joosua sanoi koko kansalle: "Näin sanoo Herra, Israelin Jumala: Tuolla puolella Eufrat-virran asuivat muinoin teidän isänne, myös Terah, Aabrahamin ja Naahorin isä, ja he palvelivat muita jumalia.
3 And I tooke your father Abraham from beyond the flood, and brought him through all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seede, and gaue him Izhak.
Mutta minä otin teidän isänne Aabrahamin tuolta puolelta virran ja kuljetin häntä kautta koko Kanaanin maan ja tein hänen jälkeläisensä lukuisiksi ja annoin hänelle Iisakin.
4 And I gaue vnto Izhak, Iaakob and Esau: and I gaue vnto Esau mount Seir, to possesse it: but Iaakob and his children went downe into Egypt.
Ja Iisakille minä annoin Jaakobin ja Eesaun. Ja Eesaulle minä annoin Seirin vuoriston omaksi, mutta Jaakob ja hänen poikansa menivät Egyptiin.
5 I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt: and when I had so done among them, I brought you out.
Sitten minä lähetin Mooseksen ja Aaronin ja rankaisin Egyptiä sillä, mitä minä siellä tein, ja sen jälkeen minä vein teidät sieltä pois.
6 So I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and ye came vnto the Sea, and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with charets and horsemen vnto the red sea.
Ja kun minä vein teidän isänne pois Egyptistä ja te olitte saapuneet meren rannalle, ajoivat egyptiläiset teidän isiänne takaa sotavaunuilla ja ratsumiehillä Kaislamereen saakka.
7 Then they cryed vnto the Lord, and he put a darkenesse betweene you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea vpon them, and couered them: so your eyes haue seene what I haue done in Egypt also ye dwelt in the wildernesse a long season.
Niin he huusivat Herraa, ja hän pani pimeyden teidän ja egyptiläisten välille ja antoi meren tulla heidän ylitsensä, ja se peitti heidät; omin silmin te näitte, mitä minä tein egyptiläisille. Kun te sitten olitte asuneet kauan aikaa erämaassa,
8 After, I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt beyond Iorden, and they fought with you: but I gaue them into your hand, and ye possessed their countrey, and I destroyed them out of your sight.
toin minä teidät amorilaisten maahan, jotka asuivat tuolla puolella Jordanin, ja he taistelivat teitä vastaan; mutta minä annoin heidät teidän käsiinne, ja te otitte omaksenne heidän maansa, ja minä tuhosin heidät teidän tieltänne.
9 Also Balak the sonne of Zippor King of Moab arose and warred against Israel, and sent to call Balaam the sonne of Beor for to curse you,
Silloin nousi Baalak, Sipporin poika, Mooabin kuningas ja taisteli Israelia vastaan; ja hän lähetti kutsumaan Bileamin, Beorin pojan, että hän kiroaisi teidät.
10 But I would not heare Balaam: therefore he blessed you, and I deliuered you out of his hand.
Mutta minä en tahtonut kuulla Bileamia, vaan hänen täytyi siunata teidät, ja minä pelastin teidät hänen käsistään.
11 And ye went ouer Iorden, and came vnto Iericho, and the men of Iericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hiuites and the Iebusites, and I deliuered them into your hand.
Ja kun te olitte menneet Jordanin yli ja tulleet Jerikoon, niin Jerikon miehet ja amorilaiset, perissiläiset, kanaanilaiset, heettiläiset, girgasilaiset, hivviläiset ja jebusilaiset taistelivat teitä vastaan, mutta minä annoin heidät teidän käsiinne.
12 And I sent hornets before you, which cast them out before you, euen the two kings of the Amorites, and not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
Ja minä lähetin herhiläisiä teidän edellänne, ja ne karkoittivat heidät teidän tieltänne, ne kaksi amorilaisten kuningasta; sinä miekallasi ja jousellasi et sitä tehnyt.
13 And I haue giuen you a land, wherein ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and yee dwell in them, and eate of the vineyards and oliue trees, which yee planted not.
Ja minä annoin teille maan, josta sinä et ollut vaivaa nähnyt, ja kaupunkeja, joita te ette olleet rakentaneet, mutta joihin saitte asettua; viinitarhoista ja öljypuista, joita te ette olleet istuttaneet, te saitte syödä.
14 Nowe therefore feare the Lord, and serue him in vprightnesse and in trueth, and put away the gods, which your fathers serued beyonde the flood and in Egypt, and serue the Lord.
Niin peljätkää nyt Herraa, palvelkaa häntä nuhteettomasti ja uskollisesti ja poistakaa ne jumalat, joita teidän isänne palvelivat tuolla puolella virran ja Egyptissä, ja palvelkaa Herraa.
15 And if it seeme euill vnto you to serue the Lord, choose you this day whome yee will serue, whether the gods which your fathers serued (that were beyond the flood) or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwel: but I and mine house will serue the Lord.
Mutta jos pidätte pahana palvella Herraa, niin valitkaa tänä päivänä, ketä tahdotte palvella, niitäkö jumalia, joita teidän isänne palvelivat tuolla puolella virran, vai amorilaisten jumalia, niiden, joiden maassa te asutte. Mutta minä ja minun perheeni palvelemme Herraa."
16 Then the people answered and saide, God forbid, that we shoulde forsake the Lord, to serue other gods.
Silloin kansa vastasi ja sanoi: "Pois se, että me hylkäisimme Herran ja palvelisimme muita jumalia!
17 For the Lord our God, he brought vs and our fathers out of the lande of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and he did those great miracles in our sight, and preserued vs in all the way that we went, and among all the people through whome we came.
Sillä Herra on meidän Jumalamme, hän, joka johdatti meidät ja meidän isämme pois Egyptin maasta, orjuuden pesästä, ja joka teki meidän silmiemme edessä suuret tunnusteot ja aina varjeli meitä sillä tiellä, jota me vaelsimme, ja kaikkien niiden kansojen keskellä, joiden kautta me kuljimme.
18 And the Lord did cast out before vs all the people, euen the Amorites which dwelt in the lande: therefore will we also serue the Lord, for he is our God.
Ja Herra karkoitti meidän tieltämme kaikki ne kansat, myös amorilaiset, jotka asuivat tässä maassa. Sentähden me palvelemme Herraa, sillä hän on meidän Jumalamme."
19 And Ioshua saide vnto the people, Ye can not serue the Lord: for he is an holie God: he is a ielous God: hee will not pardon your iniquitie nor your sinnes.
Niin Joosua sanoi kansalle: "Te ette voi palvella Herraa, sillä hän on pyhä Jumala; hän on kiivas Jumala, hän ei anna anteeksi teidän rikoksianne ja syntejänne.
20 If yee forsake the Lord and serue strange gods, then he will returne and bring euill vpon you, and consume you, after that hee hath done you good.
Jos te hylkäätte Herran ja palvelette vieraita jumalia, niin hän kääntyy pois ja antaa teille käydä pahoin ja tekee lopun teistä, sen sijaan että hän on ennen antanut teille käydä hyvin."
21 And the people saide vnto Ioshua, Nay, but we will serue the Lord.
Mutta kansa sanoi Joosualle: "Ei niin, vaan me palvelemme Herraa".
22 And Ioshua saide vnto the people, Yee are witnesses against your selues, that yee haue chosen you the Lord, to serue him: and they sayd, We are witnesses.
Silloin Joosua sanoi kansalle: "Te olette itse todistajina itseänne vastaan, että olette valinneet itsellenne Herran palvellaksenne häntä". He vastasivat: "Olemme".
23 Then put away nowe, saide he, the strange gods which are among you, and bowe your hearts vnto the Lord God of Israel.
Hän sanoi: "Niin poistakaa nyt vieraat jumalat, joita on teidän keskuudessanne, ja taivuttakaa sydämenne Herran, Israelin Jumalan, puoleen".
24 And ye people saide vnto Ioshua, The Lord our God wil we serue, and his voyce wil we obey.
Kansa vastasi Joosualle: "Herraa, meidän Jumalaamme, me palvelemme, ja hänen ääntänsä me kuulemme".
25 So Ioshua made a couenant with the people the same day, and gaue them an ordinance and lawe in Shechem.
Niin Joosua teki sinä päivänä liiton kansan kanssa ja antoi heille Sikemissä käskyt ja oikeudet.
26 And Ioshua wrote these woordes in the booke of the Lawe of God, and tooke a great stone, and pitched it there vnder an oke that was in the Sanctuarie of the Lord.
Ja Joosua kirjoitti nämä puheet Jumalan lain kirjaan, ja hän otti suuren kiven ja pystytti sen sinne, tammen alle, joka oli Herran pyhäkössä.
27 And Ioshua saide vnto all the people, Beholde, this stone shall be a witnesse vnto vs: for it hath heard all the wordes of the Lord which he spake with vs: it shall be therefore a witnesse against you, lest yee denie your God.
Ja Joosua sanoi kaikelle kansalle: "Katso, tämä kivi on oleva todistajana meitä vastaan, sillä se on kuullut kaikki Herran sanat, jotka hän on meille puhunut, ja se on oleva todistajana teitä vastaan, ettette kieltäisi Jumalaanne".
28 Then Ioshua let the people depart, euery man vnto his inheritance.
Sitten Joosua päästi kansan menemään, kunkin perintöosalleen.
29 And after these things Ioshua the sonne of Nun, the seruaunt of the Lord died, being an hundreth and ten yeeres olde.
Näiden tapausten jälkeen Herran palvelija Joosua, Nuunin poika, kuoli sadan kymmenen vuoden vanhana.
30 And they buried him in ye border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the Northside of mount Gaash.
Ja he hautasivat hänet hänen perintöosansa alueelle, Timnat-Serahiin, joka on Efraimin vuoristossa, pohjoispuolelle Gaas-vuorta.
31 And Israel serued the Lord all the daies of Ioshua, and all the daies of the Elders that ouerliued Ioshua, and which had knowen all the workes of the Lord that he had done for Israel.
Ja Israel palveli Herraa Joosuan koko elinajan ja niiden vanhinten koko elinajan, jotka elivät vielä kauan Joosuan jälkeen ja tunsivat kaikki ne teot, jotka Herra oli Israelille tehnyt.
32 And the bones of Ioseph, which the children of Israel brought out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem in a parcell of ground which Iaakob bought of the sonnes of Hamor the father of Shechem, for an hundreth pieces of siluer, and the children of Ioseph had them in their inheritance.
Ja Joosefin luut, jotka israelilaiset olivat tuoneet Egyptistä, he hautasivat Sikemiin, siihen maapalstaan, jonka Jaakob oli ostanut Hamorin, Sikemin isän, pojilta sadalla kesitalla ja jonka joosefilaiset olivat saaneet perintöosaksensa.
33 Also Eleazar the sonne of Aaron died, whome they buried in the hill of Phinehas his sonne, which was giuen him in mount Ephraim.
Ja Eleasar, Aaronin poika, kuoli, ja he hautasivat hänet Gibeaan, hänen poikansa Piinehaan kaupunkiin, joka oli annettu hänelle Efraimin vuoristosta.
