Joshua 22
1 Then Ioshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the halfe tribe of Manasseh,
Alors Josué appela les Rubénites, et les Gadites, et la demi-Tribu de Manassé.
2 And sayd vnto them, Ye haue kept all that Moses the seruaunt of the Lord commanded you, and haue obeied my voice in all that I commanded you:
Et leur dit: Vous avez gardé tout ce que Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel vous avait commandé, et vous avez obéi à ma parole, en tout ce que je vous ai commandé.
3 You haue not forsaken your brethren this long season vnto this day, but haue diligently kept the commandement of the Lord your God.
Vous n'avez pas abandonné vos frères, quoiqu'il y ait longtemps [que vous êtes avec eux], jusqu'à ce jour; mais vous avez pris garde à observer le commandement de l'Eternel votre Dieu.
4 And nowe the Lord hath giuen rest vnto your brethren as he promised them: therefore nowe returne ye and goe to your tentes, to the land of your possession, which Moses the seruant of the Lord hath giuen you beyond Iorden.
Or maintenant l'Eternel votre Dieu a donné du repos à vos frères, selon qu'il leur en avait parlé. Maintenant donc retournez, et allez-vous-en dans vos demeures, en la terre de votre possession, laquelle Moïse, serviteur de l'Eternel, vous a donnée au delà du Jourdain.
5 But take diligent heede, to doe the commandement and Lawe, which Moses the seruant of the Lord commanded you: that is, that ye loue the Lord your God, and walke in all his wayes, and keepe his commandements, and cleaue vnto him, and serue him with all your heart and with all your soule.
Prenez seulement bien garde de faire le commandement de la Loi que Moïse serviteur de l'Eternel vous a prescrite, [qui est], que vous aimiez l'Eternel votre Dieu, et que vous marchiez dans toutes ses voies, et que vous gardiez ses commandements, et que vous vous attachiez à lui, et le serviez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.
6 So Ioshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went vnto their tents.
Puis Josué les bénit, et les renvoya; et ils s'en allèrent en leurs demeures.
7 Nowe vnto one halfe of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had giuen a possession in Bashan: and vnto the other halfe thereof gaue Ioshua among their brethren on this side Iorden Westwarde: therefore when Ioshua sent them away vnto their tents, and blessed them,
Or Moïse avait donné à la moitié de la Tribu de Manassé [son héritage] en Basan; et Josué donna à l'autre moitié [son héritage] avec leurs frères au deçà du Jourdain vers l'Occident. Au reste, Josué les renvoyant en leurs demeures, et les bénissant,
8 Thus he spake vnto them, saying, Returne with much riches vnto your tents, and with a great multitude of cattell, with siluer and with golde, with brasse and with yron, and with great abundance of rayment: deuide the spoyle of your enemies with your brethren.
Leur parla, en disant: Vous retournez en vos demeures avec de grandes richesses, et avec une fort grande quantité de bétail, avec argent, or, airain, fer, et vêtements, en fort grande abondance; partagez le butin de vos ennemis avec vos frères.
9 So the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and halfe the tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel from Shiloh (which is in the land of Canaan) to goe vnto the countrey of Gilead to the land of their possession, which they had obteyned, according to ye word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
Ainsi donc les enfants de Ruben, et les enfants de Gad, et la demi-Tribu de Manassé s'en retournèrent, et partirent de Silo, qui [est] au pays de Canaan, d'avec les enfants d'Israël, pour s'en aller au pays de Galaad, en la terre de leur possession, de laquelle on les avait fait jouir, suivant ce que l'Eternel avait commandé par le moyen de Moïse.
10 And when they came vnto the borders of Iorden (which are in the land of Canaan) then the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the halfe tribe of Manasseh, built there an altar by Iorden, a great altar to see to.
Or ils vinrent aux limites du Jourdain, qui étaient au pays de Canaan; et les enfants de Ruben, et les enfants de Gad, et la demi-Tribu de Manassé bâtirent là un autel, joignant le Jourdain, qui était un autel de grande apparence.
11 When the children of Israel heard say, Beholde, the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the halfe tribe of Manasseh haue built an altar in the forefront of the lande of Canaan vpon the borders of Iorden at the passage of the children of Israel:
Et les enfants d'Israël ouïrent dire: Voilà, les enfants de Ruben, et les enfants de Gad, et la demi-Tribu de Manassé ont bâti un autel regardant vers le pays de Canaan, sur les limites du Jourdain, du côté des enfants d'Israël.
12 When the children of Israel heard it, then the whole Congregation of the children of Israel gathered them together at Shiloh to goe vp to warre against them.
Les enfants donc d'Israël entendirent cela; et toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël s'assembla à Silo, pour monter en bataille contr'eux.
13 Then the children of Israel sent vnto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to ye halfe tribe of Manasseh into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the Priest,
Cependant les enfants d'Israël envoyèrent vers les enfants de Ruben, et vers les enfants de Gad, et vers la demi-Tribu de Manassé, au pays de Galaad, Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, le Sacrificateur;
14 And with him ten princes, of euery chiefe house a prince, according to all the tribes of Israel: for euery one was chiefe of their fathers housholde among the thousands of Israel.
Et avec lui dix Seigneurs; [savoir] un Seigneur de chaque maison des pères de toutes les Tribus d'Israël; car il y avait dans tous les milliers d'Israël un chef de chaque maison de leurs pères.
15 So they went vnto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the halfe tribe of Manasseh, vnto the land of Gilead, and spake with them, saying,
Ceux-ci donc vinrent vers les enfants de Ruben et vers les enfants de Gad, et vers la demi-Tribu de Manassé au pays de Galaad, et leur parlèrent, en disant:
16 Thus saith the whole congregation of the Lord, What transgression is this that ye haue transgressed against the God of Israel, to turne away this day from the Lord, in that ye haue built you an altar for to rebell this day against the Lord?
Ainsi a dit toute l'assemblée de l'Eternel: Quel est ce crime que vous avez commis contre le Dieu d'Israël, vous détournant aujourd'hui de l'Eternel, en vous bâtissant un autel, pour vous révolter aujourd'hui contre l'Eternel?
17 Haue we too litle for the wickednesse of Peor, whereof we are not clensed vnto this day, though a plague came vpon the Congregation of the Lord?
Nous fut-ce peu de chose que l'iniquité de Péhor, de laquelle nous ne nous sommes pas encore bien nettoyés jusqu'à aujourd'hui, quoiqu'il en soit venu une plaie sur l'assemblée de l'Eternel?
18 Ye also are turned away this day from the Lord: and seeing ye rebell to day against ye Lord, euen to morowe he will be wroth with all the Congregation of Israel.
Que vous vous détourniez aujourd'hui de l'Eternel, et que vous vous révoltiez aujourd'hui contre l'Eternel, afin que demain sa colère s'allume contre toute l'assemblée d'Israël?
19 Notwithstanding if the land of your possession be vncleane, come ye ouer vnto the land of the possession of the Lord, wherein the Lordes Tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among vs: but rebell not against the Lord, nor rebell not against vs in building you an altar, beside the altar of the Lord our God.
Toutefois si la terre de votre possession est souillée, passez en la terre de la possession de l'Eternel, dans laquelle est placé le pavillon de l'Eternel, et ayez votre possession parmi nous, et ne vous révoltez point contre l'Eternel, et ne soyez point rebelles contre nous, en vous bâtissant un autel, outre l'autel de l'Eternel notre Dieu.
20 Did not Achan ye sonne of Zerah trespasse grieuously in the execrable thing, and wrath fell on all the Congregation of Israel? and this man alone perished not in his wickednesse.
Hacan, fils de Zara, ne commit-il pas un crime en prenant de l'interdit, et la colère [de l'Eternel] ne s'alluma-t-elle pas contre toute l'assemblée d'Israël? et cependant cet homme ne mourut pas seul pour son iniquité.
21 Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad, and halfe the tribe of Manasseh answered, and saide vnto the heads ouer the thousands of Israel,
Mais les enfants de Ruben, et les enfants de Gad, et la demi-Tribu de Manassé répondirent, et dirent aux chefs des milliers d'Israël:
22 The Lord God of gods, the Lord God of gods, he knoweth, and Israel himselfe shall know: if by rebellion, or by transgression against ye Lord we haue done it, saue thou vs not this day.
Le Fort, le Dieu, l'Eternel, le Fort, le Dieu, l'Eternel, sait lui-même, et Israël lui-même connaîtra si c'est par révolte, et si c'est pour commettre un crime contre l'Eternel; [en ce cas-là] ne nous protége point aujourd'hui.
23 If we haue built vs an altar to returne away from the Lord, either to offer thereon burnt offering, or meate offering, or to offer peace offerings thereon, let the Lord himselfe require it:
Si nous nous sommes bâti un autel pour nous détourner de l'Eternel, et si ç'a été pour y offrir holocauste, ou gâteau, ou si ç'a été pour y faire des sacrifices de prospérités, que l'Eternel lui-même nous en demande compte.
24 And if we haue not rather done it for feare of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might say vnto our children, What haue ye to doe with the Lord God of Israel?
Et si plutôt nous ne l'avons pas fait, pour crainte de ceci, [savoir] que vos enfants pourraient un jour parler ainsi à nos enfants, et leur dire: Qu'avez-vous à faire avec l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël?
25 For the Lord hath made Iorden a border betweene vs and you, ye children of Reuben, and of Gad: therefore ye haue no part in the Lord: so shall your children make our children cease from fearing the Lord.
Puisque l'Eternel a mis le Jourdain pour bornes entre nous et vous, enfants de Ruben, et enfants de Gad; vous n'avez point de part à l'Eternel. Et ainsi vos enfants feraient qu'un jour nos enfants cesseraient de craindre l'Eternel.
26 Therefore we said, We will nowe go about to make vs an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice,
C'est pourquoi nous avons dit: Mettons-nous maintenant à bâtir un autel, non pour holocauste, ni pour sacrifice;
27 But it shall be a witnesse betweene vs and you, and betweene our generations after vs, to execute the seruice of the Lord before him in our burnt offerings, and in our sacrifices, and in our peace offerings, and that your children should not say to our children in time to come, Ye haue no part in the Lord.
Mais afin qu'il serve de témoignage entre nous et vous, et entre nos générations après nous, pour faire le service de l'Eternel devant lui en nos holocaustes et nos sacrifices, et en nos sacrifices de prospérités; et afin qu'à l'avenir vos enfants ne disent point à nos enfants: Vous n'avez point de part à l'Eternel.
28 Therefore said we, If so be that they should so say to vs or to our generations in time to come, then will we answere, Beholde the facion of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offering nor for sacrifice, but it is a witnesse betweene vs and you.
C'est pourquoi nous avons dit: Lorsqu'ils nous tiendront ce discours, ou à nos générations à l'avenir, nous leur dirons: Voyez la ressemblance de l'autel de l'Eternel que nos pères ont faite, non pour holocauste, ni pour sacrifice, mais afin qu'il soit témoin entre nous et vous.
29 God forbid, that we should rebell against the Lord, and turne this day away from the Lord to builde an altar for burnt offering, or for meate offering, or for sacrifice, saue the altar of the Lord our God, that is before his Tabernacle.
A Dieu ne plaise que nous nous révoltions contre l'Eternel, et que nous nous détournions aujourd'hui de l'Eternel, en bâtissant un autel pour l'holocauste, pour le gâteau, et pour le sacrifice, outre l'autel de l'Eternel notre Dieu, qui est devant son pavillon.
30 And when Phinehas the Priest, and the princes of the Congregation and heads ouer the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the wordes, that the children of Reuben, and children of Gad, and the children of Manasseh spake, they were well content.
Or après que Phinées le Sacrificateur, et les principaux de l'assemblée, les chefs des milliers d'Israël qui étaient avec lui, eurent entendu les paroles que les enfants de Ruben, et les enfants de Gad, et les enfants de Manassé leur dirent, ils furent satisfaits.
31 And Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the Priest said vnto the children of Reuben and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceiue, that the Lord is among vs, because ye haue not done this trespasse against the Lord: nowe ye haue deliuered the children of Israel out of the hand of the Lord.
Et Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, le Sacrificateur dit aux enfants de Ruben, et aux enfants de Gad, et aux enfants de Manassé: Nous connaissons aujourd'hui que l'Eternel est parmi nous, puisque vous n'avez point commis ce crime contre l'Eternel; car dès lors vous avez délivré les enfants d'Israël de la main de l'Eternel.
32 Then Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the Priest with the princes returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, vnto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them answere.
Ainsi Phinées, fils d'Eléazar, le Sacrificateur, et ces Seigneurs-là, s'en retournèrent d'avec les enfants de Ruben, et d'avec les enfants de Gad; du pays de Galaad au pays de Canaan, vers les enfants d'Israël, et leur rapportèrent le fait.
33 And the saying pleased the children of Israel: and the children of Israel blessed God, and minded not to goe against them in battell, for to destroy the land, wherein the children of Reuben, and Gad dwelt.
Et la chose plut aux enfants d'Israël; et les enfants d'Israël en bénirent Dieu, et ne parlèrent plus de monter en bataille contr'eux pour ruiner le pays où habitaient les enfants de Ruben, et les enfants de Gad.
34 Then the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad called the altar Ed: for it shall be a witnesse betweene vs, that the Lord is God.
Et les enfants de Ruben, et les enfants de Gad appelèrent l'autel, Hed; car, [dirent-ils], il est témoin entre nous que l'Eternel est le Dieu.
