Joshua 20
1 The Lord also spake vnto Ioshua, saying,
Yahvé habló a Moisés, diciendo:
2 Speake to the children of Israel, and say, Appoint you cities of refuge, whereof I spake vnto you by the hand of Moses,
“Habla a los hijos de Israel y diles: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de que os hablé por boca de Moisés;
3 That the slaier that killeth any person by ignorance, and vnwittingly, may flee thither, and they shall be your refuge from the auenger of blood.
para que pueda refugiarse allá el homicida que haya matado a un hombre por inadvertencia sin querer. Ellas os servirán de refugio contra el vengador de la sangre.
4 And he that doeth flee vnto one of those cities, shall stand at the entring of the gate of the citie, and shall shewe his cause to the Elders of the citie: and they shall receiue him into the citie vnto them, and giue him a place, that hee may dwell with them.
Él (homicida) podrá refugiarse en una de estas ciudades; presentándose a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad, declarará su caso a los ancianos de aquella ciudad, los cuales lo recibirán entre ellos dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar para que habite con ellos.
5 And if the auenger of blood pursue after him, they shall not deliuer the slaier into his hand because hee smote his neighbour ignorantly, neither hated he him before time:
Y cuando lo persiguiere el vengador de la sangre, no han de entregar al homicida en su mano; porque mató a su prójimo, sin querer y sin tenerle rencor anteriormente.
6 But hee shall dwell in that citie vntill hee stande before the Congregation in iudgement, or vntill the death of the hie Priest that shall be in those daies: then shall the slaier returne, and come vnto his owne citie, and vnto his owne house, euen vnto the citie from whence he fled.
Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que comparezca en juicio ante la Congregación y hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote que hubiere en aquellos días. Entonces el homicida podrá volver a entrar en su ciudad y su casa, en la ciudad de donde huyó.”
7 Then they appointed Kedesh in Galil in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba, (which is Hebron) in the mountaine of Iudah.
Designaron a Kedes en Galilea, en la montaña de Neftalí, a Siquem en la montaña de Efraím, y a Kiryat-Arba, o sea Hebrón, en la montaña de Judá.
8 And on the other side Iorden toward Iericho Eastward, they appoynted Bezer in the wildernesse vpon the plaine, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead, out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, out of the tribe of Manasseh.
Y al otro lado del Jordán, al oriente de Jericó, señalaron a Béser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, a Ramot en Galaad, de la tribu de Gad, y a Golán en Basan, de la tribu de Manasés.
9 These were the cities appoynted for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that soiourned among them, that whosoeuer killed any person ignorantly, might flee thither, and not die by the hande of the auenger of blood, vntill hee stoode before the Congregation.
Estas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para los extranjeros que moran en medio de ellos, para que allí se refugiara cualquiera que matase a alguno por error, a fin de que no muriera por mano del vengador de la sangre, antes de comparecer en juicio ante la Congregación.
