Joshua 2
1 Then Ioshua the sonne of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spie secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and also Iericho: and they went, and came into an harlots house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
Giô-suê, con trai của Nun, từ Si-tim mật sai hai người do thám mà rằng: Hãy đi do thám xứ, nhất là Giê-ri-cô. Vậy, hai người ấy đi đến nhà của một kỵ nữ tên là Ra-háp, và ngụ tại đó.
2 Then report was made to the King of Iericho, saying, Beholde, there came men hither to night, of the children of Israel, to spie out the countrey.
Người ta bèn tâu cùng vua Giê-ri-cô rằng: Kìa, đêm nay có người trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã đến do thám xứ.
3 And the King of Iericho sent vnto Rahab, saying, Bring foorth the men that are come to thee, and which are entred into thine house: for they be come to search out all the land.
Vua Giê-ri-cô sai nói cùng Ra-háp rằng: Hãy đuổi hai người đã đến vào nhà ngươi; vì họ đến đặng do thám cả xứ.
4 (But ye woman had taken the two men, and hid them) Therefore saide she thus, There came men vnto me, but I wist not whence they were.
Nhưng người đàn bà đem giấu hai người này, rồi đáp rằng: Quả thật họ đã tới nhà tôi nhưng chẳng biết ở đâu đến.
5 And when they shut the gate in the darke, the men went out, whither the men went I wote not: follow ye after them quickly, for ye shall ouertake them.
Song vào buổi tối cửa thành hầu đóng, hai người ấy đi ra tôi không biết đi đâu; hãy mau đuổi theo, vì các ngươi theo kịp được.
6 (But she had brought them vp to the roofe of the house, and hidde them with the stalkes of flaxe, which she had spread abroad vpon the roofe)
Vả, nàng có biểu hai người leo lên mái nhà, giấu dưới cộng gai mà nàng rải ở trên mái.
7 And certaine men pursued after them, the way to Iorden, vnto the foordes, and as soone as they which pursued after them, were gone out, they shut the gate.
Những người của vua đuổi theo họ về hướng sông Giô-đanh, cho đến chỗ cạn; vừa khi những người đuổi theo đó ra khỏi thành, thì người ta đóng cửa thành.
8 And before they were a sleepe, she came vp vnto them vpon the roofe,
Trước khi hai người do thám chưa nằm ngủ, nàng leo lên mái nhà,
9 And saide vnto the men, I knowe that the Lord hath giuen you the land, and that the feare of you is fallen vpon vs, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
mà nói rằng: Tôi biết rằng Đức Giê-hô-va đã ban cho các ông xứ này, sự kinh khủng vì cớ các ông đã bắt lấy chúng tôi, và cả dân của xứ đều sờn lòng trước mặt các ông.
10 For we haue heard, howe the Lord dried vp the water of the redde Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt, and what you did vnto the two Kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Iorden, vnto Sihon and to Og, whom ye vtterly destroyed:
Vì chúng tôi có hay khi các ông ra khỏi xứ Ê-díp-tô, thì Đức Giê-hô-va đã khiến nước Biển đỏ bày khô trước mặt các ông, và điều các ông đã làm cho Si-hôn và Oùc, hai vua dân A-mô-rít, ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh, mà các ông đã diệt đi.
11 And when wee heard it, our heartes did faint, and there remained no more courage in any because of you: for the Lord your God, he is the God in heauen aboue, and in earth beneath.
Chúng tôi có hay điều đó, lòng bèn tan ra, chẳng ai trong chúng tôi còn can đảm trước mặt các ông nữa; vì Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời các ông là Đức Chúa Trời ở trên trời cao kia, và ở dưới đất thấp này.
12 Now therefore, I pray you, sweare vnto me by the Lord; that as I haue shewed you mercie, ye will also shewe mercie vnto my fathers house, and giue me a true token,
Vậy bây giờ, vì tôi đã làm nhân cho hai ông, thì hai ông cũng phải làm nhân lại cho nhà cha tôi; hãy chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va mà thề cùng tôi, và cho một dấu quả quyết
13 And that yee will saue aliue my father and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they haue: and that yee will deliuer our soules from death.
rằng các ông sẽ để cha mẹ, anh em, chị em tôi, và hết thảy người bà con của họ đều còn sống, cùng cứu chúng tôi khỏi chết.
14 And the men answered her, Our life for you to die, if ye vtter not this our businesse: and when the Lord hath giuen vs the lande, we will deale mercifully and truely with thee.
Hai người đáp rằng: Mạng chúng ta sẽ đền cho mạng nàng! Nếu nàng không cho lậu việc chúng ta ra, thì chúng ta sẽ đãi nàng cách nhân từ và thành tín khi Đức Giê-hô-va ban xứ cho chúng ta.
15 Then she let them downe by a corde thorowe the windowe: for her house was vpon the towne wall, and she dwelt vpon the wall.
Vậy, nàng dùng một sợi dây dòng hai người xuống nơi cửa sổ, vì nhà nàng ở tại trên vách thành.
16 And she said vnto them, Goe you into the mountaine, least the pursuers meete with you, and hide your selues there three dayes, vntill the pursuers be returned: then afterwarde may yee goe your way.
Nàng nói rằng: Hãy đi đến núi, kẻo những người đuổi theo gặp các ông chăng; hãy ẩn đó ba ngày cho đến chừng nào những người đuổi theo trở về; sau rồi các ông hãy đi đường.
17 And the men said vnto her, We will be blamelesse of this thine othe, which thou hast made vs sweare.
Vả, hai người nói cùng nàng rằng: Này thể nào chúng ta sẽ khỏi mắc lời thề mà nàng đã bắt ta thề.
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this cord of red threde in the window, whereby thou lettest vs downe, and thou shalt bring thy father and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy fathers houshold home to thee.
Khi nào chúng ta vào xứ, nàng phải cột sợi chỉ điều này nơi cửa sổ mà nàng dòng chúng ta xuống, rồi nhóm hiệp cha mẹ, anh em, và hết thảy bà con của nàng lại trong nhà mình.
19 And whosoeuer then doeth goe out at the doores of thine house into the streete, his blood shalbe vpon his head, and we will be giltlesse: but whosoeuer shall be with thee in the house, his blood shalbe on our head, if any hande touch him:
Phàm ai trong các người đó đi ra ngoài cửa nhà nàng, thì huyết người ấy sẽ đổ lại trên đầu người, và chúng ta vô tội; nhưng nếu ai tra tay vào người nào ở cùng nàng trong nhà, thì huyết của người đó sẽ đổ lại trên đầu chúng ta.
20 And if thou vtter this our matter, we will be quite of thine othe, which thou hast made vs sweare.
Còn nếu nàng cho lậu việc chúng ta, ắt chúng ta sẽ khỏi mắc lời mà nàng đã bắt chúng ta thề.
21 And she answered, According vnto your wordes, so be it: then she sent them away, and they departed, and she bound the red cord in ye window.
Nàng bèn đáp: Khá y lời hai ông đã nói. Đoạn, nàng cho hai người đi, và hai người liền đi. Nàng bèn cột sợi chỉ điều nơi cửa sổ.
22 And they departed, and came into the mountaine, and there abode three dayes, vntil the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but founde them not.
Vậy, hai người đi đến núi, ở đó ba ngày cho đến khi những người đuổi theo mình trở về. Mấy người ấy kiếm họ cùng đường, nhưng không gặp.
23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountaine, and passed ouer, and came to Ioshua the sonne of Nun, and tolde him all things that came vnto them.
Hai người do thám bèn đi xuống núi trở về; khi đã qua sông Giô-đanh rồi, thì đến gần Giô-suê, con trai Nun, thuật cho người mọi điều đã xảy ra.
24 Also they saide vnto Ioshua, Surely the Lord hath deliuered into our handes all the lande: for euen all the inhabitants of the countrey faint because of vs.
Hai người nói cùng Giô-suê rằng: Quả thật, Đức Giê-hô-va đã phó cả xứ vào tay chúng ta; và lại, hết thảy dân của xứ đều sờn lòng trước mặt chúng ta.
