Joshua 2
1 Then Ioshua the sonne of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spie secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and also Iericho: and they went, and came into an harlots house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
Josua, Nuns son, sände hemligen ut två spejare från Sittim och sade: »Gån och besen landet och Jeriko.» De gingo åstad och kommo in i ett hus där en sköka bodde, vid namn Rahab, och där lade de sig till vila.
2 Then report was made to the King of Iericho, saying, Beholde, there came men hither to night, of the children of Israel, to spie out the countrey.
Men för konungen i Jeriko blev inberättat: »I natt hava några män kommit hit från Israels barn för att utforska landet.»
3 And the King of Iericho sent vnto Rahab, saying, Bring foorth the men that are come to thee, and which are entred into thine house: for they be come to search out all the land.
Då sände konungen i Jeriko till Rahab och lät säga: »Lämna ut de män som hava kommit till dig och tagit in i ditt hus, ty de hava kommit hit för att utforska hela landet.»
4 (But ye woman had taken the two men, and hid them) Therefore saide she thus, There came men vnto me, but I wist not whence they were.
Men kvinnan tog de båda männen och dolde dem; sedan svarade hon: »Ja, männen kommo till mig, men jag visste icke varifrån de voro;
5 And when they shut the gate in the darke, the men went out, whither the men went I wote not: follow ye after them quickly, for ye shall ouertake them.
och när porten skulle stängas, sedan det hade blivit mörkt, gingo männen ut, och jag vet icke vart de togo vägen; skynden eder att sätta efter dem, så fån I nog fatt i dem.»
6 (But she had brought them vp to the roofe of the house, and hidde them with the stalkes of flaxe, which she had spread abroad vpon the roofe)
Men hon hade fört dem upp på taket och gömt dem under linstjälkar, som hon hade där, utbredda på taket.
7 And certaine men pursued after them, the way to Iorden, vnto the foordes, and as soone as they which pursued after them, were gone out, they shut the gate.
Så satte nu männen efter dem åt Jordan till, bort emot vadställena; och man stängde stadsporten så snart förföljarna hade begivit sig åstad.
8 And before they were a sleepe, she came vp vnto them vpon the roofe,
Men innan de främmande männen hade lagt sig, steg hon upp till dem på taket
9 And saide vnto the men, I knowe that the Lord hath giuen you the land, and that the feare of you is fallen vpon vs, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
och sade till dem: »Jag vet att HERREN har givit eder detta land, och att förskräckelse för eder har fallit över oss, ja, att alla landets inbyggare äro i ångest för eder.
10 For we haue heard, howe the Lord dried vp the water of the redde Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt, and what you did vnto the two Kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Iorden, vnto Sihon and to Og, whom ye vtterly destroyed:
Ty vi hava hört huru HERREN lät vattnet i Röda havet torka ut framför eder, när I drogen ut ur Egypten, och vad I haven gjort med amoréernas konungar, de två på andra sidan Jordan, Sihon och Og, huru I gåven dem till spillo.
11 And when wee heard it, our heartes did faint, and there remained no more courage in any because of you: for the Lord your God, he is the God in heauen aboue, and in earth beneath.
Då vi hörde detta, blevo våra hjärtan förfärade, och numera har ingen mod att stå eder emot; ty HERREN, eder Gud, är Gud, uppe i himmelen och nere på jorden.
12 Now therefore, I pray you, sweare vnto me by the Lord; that as I haue shewed you mercie, ye will also shewe mercie vnto my fathers house, and giue me a true token,
Så loven mig nu med ed vid HERREN, att eftersom jag har gjort barmhärtighet med min faders hus och giva mig ett säkert tecken därpå,
13 And that yee will saue aliue my father and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they haue: and that yee will deliuer our soules from death.
och låta min fader och min moder, mina bröder och mina systrar leva, så ock alla som tillhöra dem, och rädda oss från döden.»
14 And the men answered her, Our life for you to die, if ye vtter not this our businesse: and when the Lord hath giuen vs the lande, we will deale mercifully and truely with thee.
Männen sade till henne: »Med vårt eget liv svara vi för edert, såframt I icke förråden vårt förehavande; när HERREN giver oss landet, skola vi bevisa dig barmhärtighet och trofasthet.»
15 Then she let them downe by a corde thorowe the windowe: for her house was vpon the towne wall, and she dwelt vpon the wall.
Då släppte hon ned dem genom fönstret med ett tåg; ty hennes hus låg invid stadsmuren, så att hon bodde invid själva muren.
16 And she said vnto them, Goe you into the mountaine, least the pursuers meete with you, and hide your selues there three dayes, vntill the pursuers be returned: then afterwarde may yee goe your way.
Och hon sade till dem: »Gån upp i bergsbygden, så att edra förföljare icke träffa på eder; och hållen eder gömda där i tre dagar, till dess edra förföljare hava kommit tillbaka, så kunnen I sedan fortsätta eder färd.»
17 And the men said vnto her, We will be blamelesse of this thine othe, which thou hast made vs sweare.
Och männen sade till henne: »Vi vilja likväl vara fria ifrån den ed som du nu har tagit av oss,
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this cord of red threde in the window, whereby thou lettest vs downe, and thou shalt bring thy father and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy fathers houshold home to thee.
om du, när vi komma in i landet, underlåter att binda detta röda snöre i det fönster genom vilket du har släppt ned oss, och likaledes om du icke har din fader och din moder och dina bröder, alla av din faders hus, samlade hemma hos dig.
19 And whosoeuer then doeth goe out at the doores of thine house into the streete, his blood shalbe vpon his head, and we will be giltlesse: but whosoeuer shall be with thee in the house, his blood shalbe on our head, if any hande touch him:
Dock, om någon går åstad, utom dörrarna till ditt hus, så komme hans blod över hans huvud, och vi äro utan skuld; om däremot någons hand kommer vid en av dem som äro inne i ditt hus, så må dennes blod komma över vårt huvud.
20 And if thou vtter this our matter, we will be quite of thine othe, which thou hast made vs sweare.
Och om du förråder vårt förehavande, så äro vi likaledes fria ifrån den ed som du har tagit av oss.»
21 And she answered, According vnto your wordes, so be it: then she sent them away, and they departed, and she bound the red cord in ye window.
Hon svarade: »Vare det såsom I haven sagt.» Och så lät hon dem gå, och de drogo åstad. Men hon band det röda snöret i fönstret.
22 And they departed, and came into the mountaine, and there abode three dayes, vntil the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but founde them not.
Så drogo de nu åstad och kommo upp i bergsbygden och stannade där i tre dagar, till dess att deras förföljare hade vänt tillbaka; ty dessa hade sökt efter dem överallt på vägarna, men hade icke funnit dem.
23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountaine, and passed ouer, and came to Ioshua the sonne of Nun, and tolde him all things that came vnto them.
Sedan vände de båda männen tillbaka och kommo ned från bergsbygden och gingo över floden och kommo så till Josua, Nuns son; och de förtäljde för honom allt vad som hade vederfarits dem.
24 Also they saide vnto Ioshua, Surely the Lord hath deliuered into our handes all the lande: for euen all the inhabitants of the countrey faint because of vs.
Och de sade till Josua: »HERREN har givit hela landet i vår hand; alla landets inbyggare äro i ångest för oss.»
