Jonah 3
1 And the worde of the Lord came vnto Ionah the seconde time, saying,
Et la parole du Seigneur vint à Jonas pour la seconde fois, disant
2 Arise, goe vnto Nineueh that great citie, and preach vnto it the preaching, which I bid thee.
Lève-toi, et pars pour Ninive, la grande ville, et proclame dans ses murs la prédiction que Je t'ai déjà prescrit de proclamer.
3 So Ionah arose and went to Nineueh according to ye word of the Lord: now Nineueh was a great and excellent citie of three dayes iourney.
Et Jonas se leva; et il s'en alla à Ninive, comme lui avait dit le Seigneur. Or la ville de Ninive était grande de trois jours de marche.
4 And Ionah began to enter into the citie a dayes iourney, and he cryed, and said, Yet fourtie dayes, and Nineueh shalbe ouerthrowen.
Et Jonas commença par entrer dans la ville et par faire environ un jour de marche, et il cria, et il dit: Encore trois jours, et Ninive sera détruite!
5 So the people of Nineueh beleeued God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from ye greatest of the euen to the least of them.
Et les hommes de Ninive crurent en Dieu, et ils proclamèrent un jeûne, et ils se ceignirent de cilices, depuis le grand jusqu'au petit.
6 For worde came vnto the King of Nineueh, and he rose from his throne, and he layed his robe from him, and couered him with sackecloth, and sate in ashes.
Et la parole de Jonas arriva au roi de Ninive, et il se leva de son trône, et il ôta sa robe, et il se ceignit d'un cilice, et il s'assit sur la cendre.
7 And he proclaimed and said through Nineueh, (by the counsell of ye king and his nobles) saying, Let neither man, nor beast, bullock nor sheep taste any thing, neither feed nor drinke water.
Et il fut proclamé, et il fut dit en Ninive de la part du roi et de la part de ses grands, ce qui suit: Que ni hommes, ni bêtes, ni bœufs, ni brebis ne mangent, ne paissent, ne boivent même de l'eau.
8 But let man and beast put on sackecloth, and crie mightily vnto God: yea, let euery man turne from his euill way, and from the wickednesse that is in their handes.
Et les hommes et les bêtes furent couverts de cilices, et les hommes crièrent sans relâche au Seigneur. Et chacun revint de sa voie coupable et de l'iniquité de ses mains, disant:
9 Who can tell if God will turne, and repent and turne away from his fierce wrath, that we perish not?
Qui sait si le Seigneur ne Se repentira pas, et s'Il ne calmera pas les transports de Sa colère, pour que nous ne périssions point?
10 And God sawe their workes that they turned from their euill wayes: and God repented of the euill that he had said that he woulde doe vnto them, and he did it not.
Et Dieu vit leurs œuvres; Il vit qu'ils revenaient de leurs voies coupables; et Dieu Se repentit du mal qu'Il avait voulu leur faire, et Il ne le leur fit pas.
