John 4
1 Nowe when the Lord knew, how the Pharises had heard, that Iesus made and baptized moe disciples then Iohn,
Lors donc que Jésus sut que les pharisiens avaient appris qu’il faisait plus de disciples et baptisait plus que Jean,
2 (Though Iesus himselfe baptized not: but his disciples)
(Quoique Jésus ne baptisât point, mais ses disciples),
3 Hee left Iudea, and departed againe into Galile.
Il quitta la Judée, et s’en alla de nouveau en Galilée;
4 And he must needes goe through Samaria.
Or il lui fallait passer par la Samarie.
5 Then came hee to a citie of Samaria called Sychar, neere vnto the possession that Iacob gaue to his sonne Ioseph.
Il vint donc dans une ville de Samarie, nommée Sichar, près de l’héritage que Jacob donna à Joseph, son fils.
6 And there was Iacobs well. Iesus then wearied in the iourney, sate thus on the well: it was about the sixt houre.
Là était le puits de Jacob. Ainsi, Jésus, fatigué de la route, s’assit sur le bord du puits. Il était environ la sixième heure.
7 There came a woman of Samaria to drawe water. Iesus sayd vnto her, Giue me drinke.
Or une femme de Samarie vint puiser de l’eau. Jésus lui dit: Donnez-moi à boire.
8 For his disciples were gone away into the citie, to buy meate.
(Car ses disciples étaient allés à la ville acheter de quoi manger.)
9 Then sayde the woman of Samaria vnto him, Howe is it, that thou being a Iewe, askest drinke of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Iewes meddle not with the Samaritans.
Cette femme samaritaine lui répondit donc: Comment toi, qui es Juif, me demandes-tu à boire, à moi, qui sais une femme samaritaine? car les Juifs n’ont point de commerce avec les Samaritains.
10 Iesus answered and saide vnto her, If thou knewest that gift of God, and who it is that saieth to thee, Giue mee drinke, thou wouldest haue asked of him, and hee woulde haue giuen thee, water of life.
Jésus lui répondit et dit: Si vous saviez le don de Dieu, et qui est celui qui vous dit: Donnez-moi à boire, peut-être lui en eussiez-vous demandé vous-même, et il vous aurait donné d’une eau vive.
11 The woman saide vnto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to drawe with, and the well is deepe: from whence then hast thou that water of life?
La femme lui repartit: Seigneur, tu n’as pas même avec quoi puiser, et le puits est profond; d’où aurais-tu donc de l’eau vive?
12 Art thou greater then our father Iacob, which gaue vs the well, and hee himselfe dranke thereof, and his sonnes, and his cattell?
Es-tu plus grand que notre père Jacob qui nous a donné ce puits, et qui en a bu, lui, ses enfants et ses troupeaux?
13 Iesus answered, and said vnto her, Whosoeuer drinketh of this water, shall thirst againe:
Jésus répliqua et lui dit: Quiconque boit de cette eau aura encore soif;
15 The woman said vnto him, Syr, giue me of that water, that I may not thirst, neither come hither to drawe.
La femme lui dit: Seigneur, donne-moi de cette eau afin que je n’aie plus soif, et que je ne vienne point puiser ici.
16 Iesus said vnto her, Go, call thine husband, and come hither.
Allez, lui répondit Jésus, appelez votre mari et venez ici.
17 The woman answered, and saide, I haue no husband. Iesus said vnto her, Thou hast well said, I haue no husband.
La femme répliqua et dit: Je n’ai point de mari. Jésus ajouta: Vous avez bien dit: Je n’ai point de mari;
18 For thou hast had fiue husbands, and he whom thou nowe hast, is not thine husband: that saidest thou truely.
Car vous avez eu cinq maris, et celui que vous avez maintenant n’est pas votre mari; en cela vous avez dit vrai.
19 The woman saide vnto him, Sir, I see that thou art a Prophet.
La femme lui dit: Seigneur, je vois que vous êtes vraiment prophète.
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountaine, and ye say, that in Ierusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Nos pères ont adoré sur cette montagne, et vous dites, vous, que Jérusalem est le lieu où il faut adorer.
21 Iesus saide vnto her, Woman, beleeue me, the houre commeth, when ye shall neither in this mountaine, nor at Hierusalem worship ye Father.
Jésus lui dit: Femme, croyez-moi, vient une heure où vous n’adorerez le Père ni sur cette montagne ni à Jérusalem.
22 Ye worship that which ye knowe not: we worship that which we knowe: for saluation is of the Iewes.
Vous adorez, vous, ce que vous ne connaissez point; nous, nous adorons ce que nous connaissons, parce que le salut vient des Juifs.
23 But the houre commeth, and nowe is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit, and trueth: for the Father requireth euen such to worship him.
Mais vient une heure, et elle est déjà venue, où les vrais adorateurs adoreront le Père en esprit et en vérité; car ce sont de tels adorateurs que le Père cherche.
24 God is a Spirite, and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and trueth.
Dieu est esprit, et ceux qui l’adorent doivent l’adorer en esprit et en vérité.
25 The woman said vnto him, I knowe well that Messias shall come which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell vs all things.
La femme lui dit: Je sais que le Messie (c’est-à-dire le Christ) vient; lors donc qu’il sera venu, il nous apprendra toutes choses.
26 Iesus said vnto her, I am he, that speake vnto thee.
Jésus lui dit: Je le suis, moi qui vous parle.
27 And vpon that, came his disciples, and marueiled that he talked with a woman: yet no man said vnto him, What askest thou? or why talkest thou with her?
En même temps ses disciples vinrent, et ils s’étonnaient de ce qu’il parlait avec une femme; néanmoins aucun ne dit: Que lui demandez-vous? ou pourquoi parlez-vous avec elle?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the citie, and said to the men,
La femme donc laissa là sa cruche, s’en alla dans la ville et dit aux habitants:
29 Come, see a man which hath tolde me all things that euer I did: is not he that Christ?
Venez, voyez un homme qui m’a dit tout ce que j’ai fait, n’est-ce point le Christ?
30 Then they went out of the citie, and came vnto him.
Ils sortirent donc de la ville, et ils venaient à lui.
31 In the meane while, the disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eate.
Cependant ses disciples le priaient, disant: Maître, mangez.
32 But he said vnto them, I haue meate to eate that ye know not of.
Mais il leur dit: Moi, j’ai à manger une nourriture que vous ne connaissez point.
33 Then said ye disciples betweene themselues, Hath any man brought him meate?
Les disciples disaient alors entre eux: Quelqu’un lui a-t-il apporté à manger?
34 Iesus saide vnto them, My meate is that I may doe the will of him that sent me, and finish his worke.
Jésus leur dit: Ma nourriture est de faire la volonté de celui qui m’a envoyé, et d’accomplir son œuvre.
35 Say not ye, There are yet foure moneths, and then commeth haruest? Beholde, I say vnto you, Lift vp your eyes, and looke on the regions: for they are white alreadie vnto haruest.
Ne dites-vous pas vous-mêmes: Il y a encore quatre mois, et la moisson viendra? Mais moi, je vous dis maintenant: Levez les yeux et voyez les champs; car ils blanchissent déjà pour la moisson.
36 And he that reapeth, receiueth rewarde, and gathereth fruite vnto life eternall, that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, might reioyce together. (aiōnios g166)
Et celui qui moissonne reçoit une récompense, et recueille du fruit pour la vie éternelle, afin que celui qui sème se réjouisse aussi bien que celui qui moissonne. (aiōnios g166)
37 For herein is the saying true, that one soweth, and an other reapeth.
Car, en ceci, ce qu’on dit est vrai: Autre est celui qui sème, et autre celui qui moissonne.
38 I sent you to reape that, whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entred into their labours.
Pour moi, je vous ai envoyés moissonner où vous n’avez point travaillé; d’autres ont travaillé, et vous, vous êtes entrés dans leurs travaux.
39 Nowe many of the Samaritans of that citie beleeued in him, for the saying of the woman which testified, He hath tolde me all things that euer I did.
Or beaucoup de Samaritains de cette ville crurent en lui, sur la parole de la femme qui avait rendu ce témoignage: Il m’a dit tout ce que j’ai fait.
40 Then when the Samaritans were come vnto him, they besought him, that he woulde tarie with them: and he abode there two dayes.
Lors donc que les Samaritains furent venus à lui, ils le prièrent de demeurer en ce lieu, et il y demeura deux jours.
41 And many moe beleeued because of his owne word.
Et beaucoup plus crurent en lui, à cause de ses discours.
42 And they said vnto the woman, Nowe we beleeue, not because of thy saying: for we haue heard him our selues, and knowe that this is in deede that Christ the Sauiour of the world.
De sorte qu’ils disaient à la femme: Maintenant ce n’est plus sur votre parole que nous croyons, nous l’avons entendu nous-mêmes, et nous savons que c’est vraiment lui qui est le Sauveur du monde.
43 So two dayes after he departed thence, and went into Galile.
Ainsi après les deux jours il partit de là et s’en alla en Galilée.
44 For Iesus himselfe had testified, that a Prophet hath none honour in his owne countrey.
Car Jésus lui-même a rendu ce témoignage qu’un prophète n’est point honoré dans sa patrie.
45 Then when he was come into Galile, the Galileans receiued him, which had seene all the things that he did at Hierusalem at the feast: for they went also vnto the feast.
Quand il fut venu en Galilée, les Galiléens l’accueillirent, parce qu’ils avaient vu tout ce qu’il avait fait à Jérusalem pendant la fête; car ils étaient venus, eux aussi, à la fête.
46 And Iesus came againe into Cana a towne of Galile, where he had made of water, wine. And there was a certaine ruler, whose sonne was sicke at Capernaum.
Il vint donc de nouveau à Cana de Galilée, où il avait changé l’eau en vin. Or il y avait un officier du roi dont le fils était malade à Capharnaüm.
47 When he heard that Iesus was come out of Iudea into Galile, he went vnto him, and besought him that he would goe downe, and heale his sonne: for he was euen ready to die.
Lorsque cet officier eut appris que Jésus venait de Judée en Galilée, il alla vers lui, et le pria de venir guérir son fils qui se mourait.
48 Then saide Iesus vnto him, Except ye see signes and wonders, ye will not beleeue.
Jésus lui dit donc: Si vous ne voyez des miracles et des prodiges, vous ne croyez point.
49 The ruler said vnto him, Syr, goe downe before my sonne dye.
L’officier lui dit: Seigneur, venez avant que mon fils meure.
50 Iesus said vnto him, Go thy way, thy sonne liueth: and the man beleeued the worde that Iesus had spoken vnto him, and went his way.
Jésus lui répondit: Va, ton fils vit. Cet homme crut à la parole que lui dit Jésus, et s’en alla.
51 And as he was nowe going downe, his seruants met him, saying, Thy sonne liueth.
Or, comme il s’en retournait, ses serviteurs vinrent à sa rencontre et lui annoncèrent que son fils vivait.
52 Then enquired he of them the houre when he began to amend. And they said vnto him, Yesterday the seuenth houre the feuer left him.
Et il leur demandait à quelle heure il s’était trouvé mieux. Et ils lui dirent: Hier, à la septième heure, la fièvre l’a quitté.
53 Then the father knew, that it was the same houre in the which Iesus had said vnto him, Thy sonne liueth. And he beleeued, and all his houshold.
Le père reconnut alors que c’était l’heure à laquelle Jésus lui avait dit: Ton fils vit; et il crut, lui et toute sa maison.
54 This second miracle did Iesus againe, after he was come out of Iudea into Galile.
Ce fut là le second miracle que fit encore Jésus quand il fut revenu de Judée en Galilée.
