< John 16 >

1 These thinges haue I saide vnto you, that ye should not be offended.
These things have I said to you, that ye may not be stumbled.
2 They shall excommunicate you: yea, the time shall come, that whosoeuer killeth you, will thinke that he doeth God seruice.
For they will eject you from their synagogues; and the hour will come, that whoever shall kill you, will suppose that he presenteth an offering to God.
3 And these things will they doe vnto you, because they haue not knowen ye Father, nor me.
And these things will they do, because they have not known either my Father, or me.
4 But these things haue I tolde you, that when the houre shall come, ye might remember, that I tolde you them. And these things said I not vnto you from ye beginning, because I was with you.
These things have I spoken to you, that when the time of them cometh, ye may recollect, that I told you of them. And I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
But now, I am going to Him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I haue saide these thinges vnto you, your hearts are full of sorowe.
And because I have told you these things, sorrow hath come and hath filled your hearts.
7 Yet I tell you the trueth, It is expedient for you that I goe away: for if I goe not away, that Comforter will not come vnto you: but if I depart, I will send him vnto you.
But I tell you the truth, that it is profitable for you that I go away; for, if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
8 And when he is come, he will reproue the worlde of sinne, and of righteousnesse, and of iudgement.
And when he is come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.
9 Of sinne, because they beleeued not in me:
Of sin because they believe not in me:
10 Of righteousnesse, because I goe to my Father, and ye shall see me no more:
and of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more:
11 Of iudgement, because the prince of this world is iudged.
and of Judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 I haue yet many things to say vnto you, but ye cannot beare them nowe.
Moreover, I have much to say to you: but ye cannot comprehend it now.
13 Howbeit, when he is come which is the Spirit of trueth, he will leade you into all trueth: for he shall not speake of himselfe, but whatsoeuer he shall heare, shall he speake, and he will shew you the things to come.
But when the Spirit of truth shall come, he will lead you into all the truth. For he will not speak from his own mind; but whatever he heareth, that will he speak: and he will make known to you things to come.
14 He shall glorifie me: for he shall receiue of mine, and shall shewe it vnto you.
He will glorify me; because he will receive of what is mine, and will show it to you.
15 All thinges that the Father hath, are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shewe it vnto you.
Whatever the Father hath, is mine: therefore said I to you that he will receive of what is mine, and will show it to you.
16 A litle while, and ye shall not see me: and againe a litle while, and ye shall see me: for I goe to the Father.
A little while, and ye will not see me; and again a little while, and ye will see me; because I go to the Father.
17 Then said some of his disciples among them selues, What is this that he saieth vnto vs, A litle while, and ye shall not see me, and againe, a litle while, and ye shall see me, and, For I goe to the Father.
And his disciples said one to another: What is this that he saith to us, A little while, and ye will not see me and again a little while, and ye will see me, because I go to my Father?
18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A litle while? we know not what he sayeth.
And they said: What is this little while, of which he speaketh? We know not what he saith.
19 Now Iesus knew that they would aske him, and said vnto them, Doe ye enquire among your selues, of that I said, A litle while, and ye shall not see me: and againe, a litle while, and yee shall see me?
And Jesus knew, that they desired to ask him; and he said to them: Are ye debating with each other, of what I said to you, A little while, and ye will not see me, and again a little while, and ye will see me?
20 Verely, verely I say vnto you, that ye shall weepe and lament, and the worlde shall reioyce: and ye shall sorowe, but your sorowe shalbe turned to ioye.
Verily, verily, I say to you, That ye will weep and lament: And the world will rejoice, while to you will be sorrow. But your sorrow will be turned to joy.
21 A woman when she traueileth, hath sorowe, because her houre is come: but assoone as she is deliuered of the childe, she remembreth no more the anguish, for ioy that a man is borne into the world.
A woman, in bringing forth, hath sorrow, for the day of her travail hath come: but when she hath brought forth a son, she remembereth not her anguish, because of the joy that a human being is born into the world.
22 And ye nowe therefore are in sorowe: but I will see you againe, and your hearts shall reioyce, and your ioy shall no man take from you.
Ye also now have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will deprive you of your joy.
23 And in that day shall ye aske me nothing. Verely, verely I say vnto you, whatsoeuer ye shall aske the Father in my Name, he will giue it you.
And in that day ye will ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say to you, That whatsoever ye shall ask of my Father in my name, he will give to you.
24 Hitherto haue ye asked nothing in my Name: aske, and ye shall receiue, that your ioye may be full.
Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and ye will receive; that your joy may be complete.
25 These things haue I spoken vnto you in parables: but the time will come, when I shall no more speake to you in parables: but I shall shew you plainely of the Father.
These things have I spoken to you in allegories: but the hour will come, when I shall not speak to you in allegories, but I will speak to you plainly of the Father.
26 At that day shall ye aske in my Name, and I say not vnto you, that I will pray vnto the Father for you:
In that day ye will ask in my name; and I do not say to you, that I will pray to the Father for you;
27 For the Father himselfe loueth you, because ye haue loued me, and haue beleeued that I came out from God.
for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I proceeded from the presence of the Father.
28 I am come out from the Father, and came into the worlde: againe I leaue the worlde, and goe to the Father.
I proceeded forth from before the Father, and came into the world; and again I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29 His disciples saide vnto him, Loe, nowe speakest thou plainely, and thou speakest no parable.
His disciples say to him: Lo, now thou speakest plainly, and thou utterest no allegory.
30 Nowe knowe wee that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should aske thee. By this we beleeue, that thou art come out from God.
Now know we, that thou knowest every thing; and thou hast no need, that any one should ask thee: by this we believe, that thou didst proceed from God.
31 Iesus answered them, Doe you beleeue nowe?
Jesus said to them: Do ye believe?
32 Beholde, the houre commeth, and is already come, that ye shalbe scattered euery man into his owne, and shall leaue me alone: but I am not alone: for the Father is with me.
Behold, the hour cometh, and hath now come, when ye will be dispersed, each to his place; and ye will leave me alone. But I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 These thinges haue I spoken vnto you, that in me ye might haue peace: in the world ye shall haue affliction, but be of good comfort: I haue ouercome the world.
These things have I said to you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye will have trouble: but, take courage, I have vanquished the world.
