Job 4
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,
Dann antwortete Eliphas aus Theman und sprach:
2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieued? but who can withholde himselfe from speaking?
Wird's dich verdrießen, wenn man ein Wort an dich wagt? Doch wer vermag der Worte Lauf zu hemmen!
3 Behold, thou hast taught many, and hast strengthened the wearie hands.
Hast du doch Viele selbst ermahnt und schlaffe Arme neu gestärkt:
4 Thy wordes haue confirmed him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the weake knees.
Wer strauchelte, den hielten deine Worte aufrecht, und wankenden Knieen verliehst du Kraft.
5 But now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
Nun, da es dich trifft, verzagst du; da dich's erfaßt, brichst du zusammen.
6 Is not this thy feare, thy confidence, thy pacience, and the vprightnesse of thy wayes?
Ist deine Gottesfurcht nicht dein Vertrauen, und deine Hoffnung dein unsträflich Leben?
7 Remember, I pray thee: who euer perished, being an innocent? or where were the vpright destroyed?
Bedenke doch, wer kam je schuldlos um, und wo wurden jemals Rechtschaffene vernichtet?
8 As I haue seene, they that plow iniquitie, and sowe wickednesse, reape the same.
So viel ich sah: nur, wer Unheil pflügte und Elend säte, hat es auch eingeerntet!
9 With the blast of God they perish, and with the breath of his nostrels are they cosumed.
Durch Gottes Odem gingen sie zu Grunde, durch seinen Zornhauch schwanden sie dahin.
10 The roaring of the Lion, and the voyce of the Lionesse, and the teeth of the Lions whelpes are broken.
Des Löwen Brüllen und des Leuen Stimme - der jungen Löwen Zähne sind zerbrochen!
11 The Lyon perisheth for lacke of pray, and the Lyons whelpes are scattered abroade.
Der Leu kommt um, weil ihm die Beute fehlt, und zerstreuen müssen sich der Löwin Kinder.
12 But a thing was brought to me secretly, and mine eare hath receiued a litle thereof.
Und zu mir drang ein verstohlenes Wort, mein Ohr vernahm davon einen flüsternden Laut -
13 In the thoughtes of ye visions of the night, when sleepe falleth on men,
bei der Gedanken Spiel infolge von Nachtgesichten, wenn tiefer Schlaf sich auf die Menschen senkt.
14 Feare came vpon me, and dread which made all my bones to tremble.
Ein Beben überkam mich und ein Zittern, alle meine Gebeine geriethen in Beben.
15 And the wind passed before me, and made the heares of my flesh to stande vp.
Ein Wehen zog an mir vorüber, es sträubten sich die Haare mir am Leibe.
16 Then stoode one, and I knewe not his face: an image was before mine eyes, and in silence heard I a voyce, saying,
Dann stand - sein Aussehn konnt ich nicht erkennen - ein Gebilde vor meinen Augen; ich vernahm eine flüsternde Stimme:
17 Shall man be more iust then God? or shall a man be more pure then his maker?
“Ist wohl ein Mensch gerecht vor Gott, vor seinem Schöpfer rein ein Mann?
18 Beholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Seruants, and laid follie vpon his Angels.
“Fürwahr, seinen Dienern traut er nicht und seinen Engeln mißt er Irrtum bei,
19 Howe much more in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which shalbe destroyed before the moth?
“geschweige den Lehmhüttenbewohnern, deren Sein im Staube wurzelt, die zermalmt werden wie eine Motte.
20 They be destroyed from the morning vnto the euening: they perish for euer, without regarde.
“Zwischen Morgen und Abend werden sie zerschmettert; ohne daß es jemand beachtet, gehn sie auf ewig zu Grunde.
21 Doeth not their dignitie goe away with them? do they not die, and that without wisdom?
“Wird ihr Zeltstrick in ihnen zerrissen, so sterben sie dahin in Unverstand.”
