Job 38
1 Then answered the Lord vnto Iob out of the whirle winde, and said,
Entonces Yahvé respondió a Job desde el torbellino,
2 Who is this that darkeneth the counsell by wordes without knowledge?
“¿Quién es el que oscurece el consejo por palabras sin conocimiento?
3 Girde vp nowe thy loynes like a man: I will demande of thee and declare thou vnto me.
Prepárate como un hombre, porque yo te interrogaré y tú me responderás.
4 Where wast thou when I layd the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast vnderstanding,
“¿Dónde estabas cuando puse los cimientos de la tierra? Declara, si tienes entendimiento.
5 Who hath layde the measures thereof, if thou knowest, or who hath stretched the line ouer it:
¿Quién determinó sus medidas, si lo sabe? ¿O quién estiró la línea en él?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof set: or who layed the corner stone thereof:
¿Sobre qué estaban fijados sus cimientos? O quién puso su piedra angular,
7 When the starres of the morning praysed me together, and all the children of God reioyced:
cuando las estrellas de la mañana cantaban juntas, y todos los hijos de Dios gritaron de alegría?
8 Or who hath shut vp the Sea with doores, when it yssued and came foorth as out of the wombe:
“O que cierra el mar con puertas, cuando salió del vientre materno,
9 When I made the cloudes as a couering thereof, and darkenesse as the swadeling bands thereof:
cuando hice de las nubes su vestimenta, y lo envolvió en una espesa oscuridad,
10 When I stablished my commandement vpon it, and set barres and doores,
marcadas para ello mi límite, poner barras y puertas,
11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no farther, and here shall it stay thy proude waues.
y dijo: “Puedes venir aquí, pero no más allá. ¿Tus orgullosas olas serán detenidas aquí?
12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy dayes? hast thou caused the morning to knowe his place,
“¿Has ordenado la mañana en tus días, y ha hecho que el amanecer conozca su lugar,
13 That it might take hold of the corners of the earth, and that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
para que se apodere de los confines de la tierra, y sacudir a los malvados fuera de ella?
14 It is turned as clay to facion, and all stand vp as a garment.
Se cambia como la arcilla bajo el sello, y presentado como una prenda de vestir.
15 And from the wicked their light shall be taken away, and the hie arme shalbe broken.
A los malvados se les oculta la luz. El brazo alto está roto.
16 Hast thou entred into the bottomes of the sea? or hast thou walked to seeke out the depth?
“¿Has entrado en los manantiales del mar? ¿O has caminado por los recovecos de las profundidades?
17 Haue the gates of death bene opened vnto thee? or hast thou seene the gates of the shadowe of death?
¿Se te han revelado las puertas de la muerte? ¿O has visto las puertas de la sombra de la muerte?
18 Hast thou perceiued the breadth of the earth? tell if thou knowest all this.
¿Has comprendido la tierra en su anchura? Declara, si lo sabes todo.
19 Where is the way where light dwelleth? and where is the place of darkenesse,
“¿Cuál es el camino hacia la morada de la luz? En cuanto a la oscuridad, cuál es su lugar,
20 That thou shouldest receiue it in the boundes thereof, and that thou shouldest knowe the paths to the house thereof?
que lo lleves a su límite, para que discierna los caminos de su casa?
21 Knewest thou it, because thou wast then borne, and because the nomber of thy dayes is great?
Seguramente lo sabes, pues naciste entonces, ¡y el número de sus días es genial!
22 Hast thou entred into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seene the treasures of ye haile,
¿Has entrado en los almacenes de la nieve, o has visto los almacenes del granizo,
23 Which I haue hid against the time of trouble, against the day of warre and battell?
que he reservado para el tiempo de la angustia, contra el día de la batalla y la guerra?
24 By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the East winde vpon the earth?
De qué manera se distribuye el rayo, o el viento del este disperso en la tierra?
25 Who hath deuided the spowtes for the raine? or the way for the lightning of ye thunders,
Que ha cortado un canal para el agua de la inundación, o la trayectoria de la tormenta,
26 To cause it to raine on the earth where no man is, and in the wildernes where there is no man?
para hacer llover en una tierra donde no hay hombre, en el desierto, en el que no hay hombre,
27 To fulfil the wilde and waste place, and to cause the bud of the herbe to spring forth?
para saciar el terreno baldío y desolado, para hacer crecer la hierba tierna?
28 Who is the father of the rayne? or who hath begotten the droppes of the dewe?
¿La lluvia tiene padre? ¿O quién recoge las gotas de rocío?
29 Out of whose wombe came the yee? who hath ingendred the frost of the heauen?
¿De qué vientre salió el hielo? ¿Quién ha dado a luz a la escarcha gris del cielo?
30 The waters are hid as with a stone: and the face of the depth is frosen.
Las aguas se vuelven duras como la piedra, cuando la superficie de las profundidades está congelada.
31 Canst thou restraine the sweete influences of the Pleiades? or loose the bandes of Orion?
“¿Puedes atar el cúmulo de las Pléyades, o aflojar las cuerdas de Orión?
32 Canst thou bring foorth Mazzaroth in their time? canst thou also guide Arcturus with his sonnes?
¿Puedes guiar a las constelaciones en su estación? ¿O puedes guiar a la Osa con sus cachorros?
33 Knowest thou the course of heauen, or canst thou set the rule thereof in the earth?
¿Conoces las leyes de los cielos? ¿Puede establecer su dominio sobre la tierra?
34 Canst thou lift vp thy voice to the cloudes that the aboundance of water may couer thee?
“¿Puedes elevar tu voz a las nubes, para que la abundancia de aguas te cubra?
35 Canst thou sende the lightenings that they may walke, and say vnto thee, Loe, heere we are?
¿Puedes enviar relámpagos para que se vayan? ¿Te informan de que “aquí estamos”?
36 Who hath put wisedome in the reines? or who hath giuen the heart vnderstanding?
¿Quién ha puesto la sabiduría en las partes interiores? ¿O quién ha dado entendimiento a la mente?
37 Who can nomber cloudes by wisedome? or who can cause to cease the bottels of heaue,
¿Quién puede contar las nubes con sabiduría? O que puede verter los contenedores del cielo,
38 When the earth groweth into hardnesse, and the clottes are fast together?
cuando el polvo se convierte en una masa, y los terrones se pegan?
39 Wilt thou hunt the pray for the lyon? or fill the appetite of the lyons whelpes,
“¿Puedes cazar la presa para la leona, o satisfacer el apetito de los jóvenes leones,
40 When they couch in their places, and remaine in the couert to lye in waite?
cuando se agazapan en sus guaridas, y acechar en la espesura?
41 Who prepareth for the rauen his meate, when his birdes crie vnto God, wandering for lacke of meate?
Que proporciona al cuervo su presa, cuando sus jóvenes claman a Dios, y vagan por falta de comida?
