Job 35
1 Elihu spake moreouer, and said,
Et Elihu reprit et dit:
2 Thinkest thou this right, that thou hast said, I am more righteous then God?
Crois-tu avoir une juste raison, penses-tu être fondé en droit devant Dieu,
3 For thou hast said, What profiteth it thee and what auaileth it me, to purge me from my sinne?
quand tu dis: A quoi bon? Qu'y gagné-je plus qu'à pécher?
4 Therefore will I answere thee, and thy companions with thee.
Je veux te faire une réponse, et à tes amis avec toi.
5 Looke vnto the heauen, and see and behold the cloudes which are hyer then thou.
Regarde les Cieux! et vois!… Contemple les airs!… ils sont plus hauts que toi!
6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him, yea, when thy sinnes be many, what doest thou vnto him?
En péchant, qu'est-ce que tu Lui fais? Par mille péchés comment Lui nuirais-tu?
7 If thou be righteous, what giuest thou vnto him? or what receiueth he at thine hand?
En étant juste, que Lui procures-tu? ou que recevrait-Il de la main?
8 Thy wickednesse may hurt a man as thou art: and thy righteousnes may profite ye sonne of man.
C'est à l'homme, comme à toi, que le péché nuit, et à l'enfant de l'homme, que profite ta justice.
9 They cause many that are oppressed, to crye, which crye out for ye violence of the mightie.
Oui, de grandes oppressions font pousser des cris, et l'on se plaint des violences de plusieurs;
10 But none saieth, Where is God that made me, which giueth songs in the nyght?
mais nul ne demande: « Où est Dieu, mon créateur, qui dans les jours sombres sait donner des joies,
11 Which teacheth vs more then the beastes of the earth, and giueth vs more wisdome then the foules of the heauen.
qui nous a mieux dotés que les bêtes des champs, et nous a faits plus sages que les oiseaux des Cieux? »
12 Then they crye because of the violence of the wicked, but he answereth not.
Sans doute ils réclament; mais Dieu ne répond pas à l'orgueil des impies.
13 Surely God will not heare vanitie, neyther will the Almightie regard it.
Non! c'est en vain! Dieu n'exauce pas, et le Tout-puissant n'a point égard à ces cris.
14 Although thou sayest to God, Thou wilt not regard it, yet iudgement is before him: trust thou in him.
Combien toi, tu seras moins écouté, si tu dis que tu peux parvenir à le voir! La cause est sous ses yeux! mets en lui ton espoir!
15 But nowe because his anger hath not visited, nor called to count the euill with great extremitie,
Mais parce que sa colère ne punit pas à ton gré, le crime, selon toi, lui importe fort peu;
16 Therfore Iob openeth his mouth in vaine, and multiplieth wordes without knowledge.
et Job ouvre la bouche pour de vains discours, et entasse des propos dénués de raison.
