Job 34
1 Moreouer Elihu answered, and saide,
Et Élihu reprit la parole et dit:
2 Heare my wordes, ye wise men, and hearken vnto me, ye that haue knowledge.
Sages, écoutez mes paroles, et vous qui avez de la connaissance, prêtez-moi l’oreille;
3 For the eare tryeth the words, as the mouth tasteth meate.
Car l’oreille éprouve les discours, comme le palais goûte les aliments.
4 Let vs seeke iudgement among vs, and let vs knowe among our selues what is good.
Choisissons pour nous ce qui est juste, et reconnaissons entre nous ce qui est bon.
5 For Iob hath saide, I am righteous, and God hath taken away my iudgement.
Car Job a dit: Je suis juste, et Dieu a écarté mon droit;
6 Should I lye in my right? my wound of the arrowe is grieuous without my sinne.
Mentirai-je contre ma droiture? ma blessure est incurable, sans qu’il y ait de transgression.
7 What man is like Iob, that drinketh scornfulnesse like water?
Qui est l’homme qui soit comme Job? Il boit la moquerie comme l’eau;
8 Which goeth in the companie of them that worke iniquitie, and walketh with wicked men?
Il marche dans la compagnie des ouvriers d’iniquité, et il chemine avec les hommes méchants.
9 For he hath saide, It profiteth a man nothing that he should walke with God.
Car il a dit: Il ne profite de rien à l’homme de trouver son plaisir en Dieu.
10 Therefore hearken vnto me, ye men of wisedome, God forbid that wickednesse should be in God, and iniquitie in the Almightie.
C’est pourquoi, hommes de sens, écoutez-moi: Loin de Dieu la méchanceté, et loin du Tout-puissant l’iniquité!
11 For he will render vnto man according to his worke, and cause euery one to finde according to his way.
Car il rendra à l’homme ce qu’il aura fait, et il fera trouver à chacun selon sa voie.
12 And certainely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almightie peruert iudgement.
Certainement Dieu n’agit pas injustement, et le Tout-puissant ne pervertit pas le droit.
13 Whome hath he appointed ouer the earth beside him selfe? or who hath placed the whole worlde?
Qui a confié la terre à ses soins, et qui a placé le monde entier [sous lui]?
14 If he set his heart vpon man, and gather vnto him selfe his spirit and his breath,
S’il ne pensait qu’à lui-même et retirait à lui son esprit et son souffle,
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall returne vnto dust.
Toute chair expirerait ensemble et l’homme retournerait à la poussière.
16 And if thou hast vnderstanding, heare this and hearken to the voyce of my wordes.
Si [tu as] de l’intelligence, écoute ceci; prête l’oreille à la voix de mes paroles.
17 Shal he that hateth iudgement, gouerne? and wilt thou iudge him wicked that is most iust?
Celui qui hait la justice gouvernera-t-il donc? Et condamneras-tu le juste par excellence?
18 Wilt thou say vnto a King, Thou art wicked? or to princes, Ye are vngodly?
Dira-t-on Bélial, au roi? – Méchants, aux nobles?
19 How much lesse to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, and regardeth not the rich, more then the poore? for they be all the worke of his handes.
[Combien moins] à celui qui ne fait pas acception de la personne des princes, et qui n’a pas égard au riche plutôt qu’au pauvre; car ils sont tous l’œuvre de ses mains.
20 They shall die suddenly, and the people shalbe troubled at midnight, and they shall passe foorth and take away the mightie without hand.
Ils mourront en un moment; au milieu de la nuit les peuples chancellent et s’en vont, et les puissants sont retirés sans main.
21 For his eyes are vpon the wayes of man, and he seeth all his goings.
Car ses yeux sont sur les voies de l’homme, et il voit tous ses pas.
22 There is no darkenesse nor shadowe of death, that the workers of iniquitie might be hid therein.
Il n’y a pas de ténèbres, il n’y a pas d’ombre de la mort, où puissent se cacher les ouvriers d’iniquité.
23 For he will not lay on man so much, that he should enter into iudgement with God.
Car il ne pense pas longtemps à un homme pour le faire venir devant Dieu en jugement.
24 He shall breake the mightie without seeking, and shall set vp other in their stead.
Il brise les puissants, sans examen, et il fait que d’autres se tiennent à leur place;
25 Therefore shall he declare their works: he shall turne the night, and they shalbe destroyed.
En effet il connaît leurs œuvres: il les renverse de nuit, et ils sont écrasés.
26 He striketh them as wicked men in the places of the seers,
Il les frappe comme des méchants dans le lieu où ils sont en vue,
27 Because they haue turned backe from him, and would not consider all his wayes:
Parce qu’ils se sont retirés de lui, et qu’ils n’ont pas considéré toutes ses voies,
28 So that they haue caused the voyce of the poore to come vnto him, and he hath heard the cry of the afflicted.
Pour faire monter vers lui le cri du pauvre, en sorte qu’il entende le cri des malheureux.
29 And when he giueth quietnesse, who can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who can beholde him, whether it be vpon nations, or vpon a man onely?
Quand il donne la tranquillité, qui troublera? Il cache sa face, et qui le verra? [Il fait] ainsi, soit à une nation, soit à un homme,
30 Because the hypocrite doeth reigne, and because the people are snared.
Pour empêcher l’homme impie de régner, pour écarter du peuple les pièges.
31 Surely it appertaineth vnto God to say, I haue pardoned, I will not destroy.
Car a-t-il [jamais] dit à Dieu: Je porte ma peine, je ne ferai plus de mal;
32 But if I see not, teach thou me: if I haue done wickedly, I will doe no more.
Ce que je ne vois pas, montre-le-moi; si j’ai commis l’iniquité, je ne le referai pas?
33 Wil he performe the thing through thee? for thou hast reproued it, because that thou hast chosen, and not I. now speake what thou knowest.
Rétribuera-t-il selon tes pensées? car tu as rejeté [son jugement], car toi, tu as choisi, et non pas moi; ce que tu sais, dis-le donc.
34 Let men of vnderstanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken vnto me.
Les hommes de sens me diront, et un homme sage qui m’écoute:
35 Iob hath not spoken of knowledge, neyther were his wordes according to wisedome.
Job n’a pas parlé avec connaissance, et ses paroles ne sont pas intelligentes;
36 I desire that Iob may be tryed, vnto the ende touching the answeres for wicked men.
Je voudrais que Job soit éprouvé jusqu’au bout, parce qu’il a répondu à la manière des hommes iniques;
37 For he addeth rebellion vnto his sinne: he clappeth his handes among vs, and multiplieth his wordes against God.
Car il a ajouté à son péché la transgression; il bat des mains parmi nous, et multiplie ses paroles contre Dieu.
