Job 22
1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,
Da nahm Eliphas von Theman das Wort und sagte:
2 May a man be profitable vnto God, as he that is wise, may be profitable to himselfe?
»Kann wohl ein Mensch Gott Nutzen schaffen? Nein, nur sich selbst nützt der Fromme.
3 Is it any thing vnto the Almightie, that thou art righteous? or is it profitable to him, that thou makest thy wayes vpright?
Hat der Allmächtige Vorteil davon, wenn du rechtschaffen bist? Oder bringt es ihm Gewinn, wenn du unsträflich wandelst?
4 Is it for feare of thee that he will accuse thee? or go with thee into iudgement?
Meinst du, wegen deiner Gottesfurcht strafe er dich und gehe deshalb mit dir ins Gericht?
5 Is not thy wickednes great, and thine iniquities innumerable?
Ist nicht vielmehr deine Bosheit groß, und sind nicht deine Verschuldungen ohne Ende?«
6 For thou hast taken the pledge from thy brother for nought, and spoyled the clothes of the naked.
»Denn oftmals hast du deine Volksgenossen ohne Grund gepfändet und den Halbnackten ihre Kleider ausziehen lassen;
7 To such as were wearie, thou hast not giuen water to drinke, and hast withdrawen bread from the hungrie.
dem vor Durst Lechzenden hast du keinen Trunk Wasser gereicht und dem Hungrigen ein Stück Brot versagt.
8 But the mightie man had the earth, and he that was in autoritie, dwelt in it.
Dem Manne der Faust – ihm gehörte das Land, und nur die Hochangesehenen durften darin wohnen.
9 Thou hast cast out widowes emptie, and the armes of the fatherles were broken.
Witwen ließest du mit leeren Händen gehen, und alles, was den Waisen zu Gebote stand, wurde zugrunde gerichtet.
10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and feare shall suddenly trouble thee:
Darum bist du jetzt rings von Schlingen umgeben, und jäher Schrecken versetzt dich in Angst;
11 Or darkenes that thou shouldest not see, and abundance of waters shall couer thee.
dein Licht ist Finsternis geworden, so daß du nicht sehen kannst, und eine Wasserflut bedeckt dich.«
12 Is not God on hie in the heauen? and behold the height of the starres how hie they are.
»Ist Gott nicht so hoch wie der Himmel? Und schaue den Gipfel der Sterne an, wie hoch sie ragen!
13 But thou sayest, How should God know? can he iudge through the darke cloude?
Und da sagst du: ›Was weiß denn Gott? Kann er durch Wolkendunkel hindurch Gericht halten?
14 The cloudes hide him that he can not see, and he walketh in the circle of heauen.
Dichte Wolken sind ihm eine Hülle, so daß er nichts sehen kann, und nur die Räume des Himmelsgewölbes durchwandelt er.‹
15 Hast thou marked the way of the worlde, wherein wicked men haue walked?
Willst du die Bahn der Vorwelt innehalten, auf der die Männer des Frevels einst gewandelt sind?
16 Which were cut downe before the time, whose foundation was as a riuer that ouerflowed:
Sie, die vor der Zeit weggerafft wurden – der feste Boden unter ihnen zerfloß zu einem Strom –;
17 Which sayd vnto God, Depart from vs, and asked what the Almightie could do for them.
die zu Gott sagten: ›Bleibe fern von uns!‹ und ›was der Allmächtige ihnen antun könne?‹
18 Yet hee filled their houses with good things: but let the counsell of the wicked be farre from me.
Und doch hatte er ihre Häuser mit Segen gefüllt. Aber die Denkweise der Frevler bleibe fern von mir!
19 The righteous shall see them, and shall reioyce, and the innocent shall laugh them to scorne.
Die Gerechten sehen es und freuen sich, und der Schuldlose ruft ihnen spottend zu:
20 Surely our substance is hid: but the fire hath deuoured the remnant of them.
›Fürwahr, unsere Widersacher sind vernichtet, und ihre Hinterlassenschaft hat das Feuer verzehrt!‹«
21 Therefore acquaint thy selfe, I pray thee, with him, and make peace: thereby thou shalt haue prosperitie.
»Befreunde dich doch mit Gott und halte Frieden mit ihm! Dadurch wird dein Geschick sich heilsam gestalten.
22 Receiue, I pray thee, the law of his mouth, and lay vp his words in thine heart.
Nimm doch Belehrung aus seinem Munde an und laß seine Worte in deinem Herzen wohnen!
23 If thou returne to the Almightie, thou shalt be buylt vp, and thou shalt put iniquitie farre from thy tabernacle.
Wenn du dich zum Allmächtigen bekehrst, so wirst du wieder aufgebaut werden; wenn du die Sünde aus deinen Zelten entfernst –
24 Thou shalt lay vp golde for dust, and the gold of Ophir, as the flintes of the riuers.
ja, wirf das Golderz von dir in den Staub und Ophirs Gold unter die Kiesel der Bäche,
25 Yea, the Almightie shalbe thy defence, and thou shalt haue plentie of siluer.
daß der Allmächtige dein Golderz ist und Silber dir sein Gesetz –:
26 And thou shalt then delite in the Almightie, and lift vp thy face vnto God.
ja, dann wirst du dich auf den Allmächtigen getrost verlassen und zu Gott dein Angesicht vertrauensvoll erheben.
27 Thou shalt make thy praier vnto him, and he shall heare thee, and thou shalt render thy vowes.
Flehst du zu ihm, so wird er dich erhören, und deine Gelübde wirst du bezahlen können;
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and he shall establish it vnto thee, and the light shall shine vpon thy wayes.
nimmst du dir etwas vor, so wird es dir gelingen, und Licht wird über deinen Wegen strahlen.
29 When others are cast downe, then shalt thou say, I am lifted vp: and God shall saue the humble person.
Wenn sie abwärts führen, so rufst du: ›Empor!‹, und dem Niedergeschlagenen hilft er auf.
30 The innocent shall deliuer the yland, and it shalbe preserued by the purenes of thine hands.
Selbst den Nichtschuldlosen wird er entkommen lassen, und zwar wird er durch die Reinheit deiner Hände entkommen.«
